I feel like this show got a few things impressively right: The combat Cortana (helps that its same voice actress but her snarky lines are on point) Halsey (she seems younger than in canon but she's accurately ruthless and complex) The look of covenant The size and strength of Spartans
Funfact: The scene where the spartans ran in front of the warthog was real. It's not cgi. There was a very long metal sheet attached to a car and the stunts ran on that sheet while the car was moving. I'm really sad they didn't show more of that, cause in real life, that was one of the best action scene what i've ever seen. A spartan running in super fast speed in front of your eyes.
Hear me out: I think the best thing for Kwan is for Madrigal to burn. It would simultaneously showcase how small and irrelevant human politics are in the face of such an existential threat and hopefully give Kwan an attitude readjustment. suddenly all she has left in her life is Soren. That'd be some hard growing up to do and hopefully matures her a bit. As it stands, I'm finding it hard to care about her. She's naïve, arrogant and belligerent, none of which are endearing character traits. I hope this is a transitory state for the character and not something I'm expected to like.
Kwan is such a pointless character. The insurgents dont matter at all, and more than likely her planet will be glassed and that will be the only impact she has. Showcasing how terrifying the covenant truly is.
I think that's something I could see coming for her. One way or another, I'd imagine she'll be humbled before the end of the season. I do appreciate that they're putting a spotlight on the insurrectionist b/c it's not something we've seen much of in the games. Also, if Yerin Ha has a social media, I hope she's not being harassed by jerks online. Whatever you think about her character so far, she doesn't deserve that.
I've sent Halo Canon's stuff to the producers and other crew. They love this channel. Our graphics supervisor in particular is tickled by how much of her work you find.
I wish when their shields dropped we would get the sparks and bolts of energy around the Spartans. It’s not just a gameplay visual mechanic. It’s a part of the art style..
I was super giddy during the combat at the end. One thing I would have loved if the grunt that shot the marine and took the warthog saying ‘my turn my turn!’ And then when Chief gets on the hood he says Oh no! Just a fun little thing about the grunts. I concur with your statement that the show overall had been enjoyable

I just wana say I love that you’re still doing machinima style narrating with your Spartan in game. It’ll be nice to see these with Halo 5 when forge/custom games comes.
I never realized how big the jackals and grunts actually are. They were about as tall as the human marines! I suppose playing from the point-of-view of a spartan doesn't really give you an accurate view of the size of the various Covenant species.
Loved this episode. I think the show has some genuinely fun(ny) and charming moments for existing fans. And nearly 10 minutes of ball to walls action. I love the phyicality of vehicles, battles etc. It’s still mesmerizing seeing a fully functional Warthog speeding across dirt. Spartans running alongside them was so cool. I think Kai is interesting and I’m enjoying Chief’s human moments. Flaws, contraversial decisions and all. Makes him more interesting and human. The gore isn’t for me but it does sell the idea of a horrific war. Never got that sense before from the games. Keyes is cute.
That last 15 mins I just couldn't stop smiling, that's what we've all been waiting for let's be honest! Also, it seems to me as though Captain Keyes in this version seems to be almost replacing Sgt Johnson
I don’t think he’s replacing him, sgt Johnson still will pop up later along the series. It’s just that in the series they decided to make Jacob and Miranda Keyes African American which honestly was a great idea. Remember this is the events of reach so sgt Johnson wasn’t around at the time
Thank you for a generally positive discussion of the show. I don't have paramount and haven't heard anything but vitriol about it. Having you break them down and talk about the lore is such a blast and it really lets me appreciate what we got instead of only complaining about it got wrong.
Halsey blackmailing Parangosky seemed to come back to haunt her since the artifact has been taken by the Covenant, and now the latter probably will have enough ammunition to push back against her. The battle sequence was everything we fans wanted in Halo, and I chuckled at the game references too. I wonder if the Brute seen is actually Tartarus OR a young Atriox. I also hope we get to see Spartans fighting alongside ODSTs in future, and it seems that Makee's trojan horse plan may (if they want it that way) result in the Fall of Reach.
This was such a lit episode! So many Easter eggs and awesome moments! Hope we don’t get more long slow episodes again. Would hate to wait until episode 9 for another action sequence. 8:10 Those canisters you see on the shelves under the helmets are medical containers. We put medical instruments into those canisters so we can sterilize them to be used at a later time. The production team probably bought old ones for cheap from a hospital, because brand new they cost about $1200 each.
once again man I'll wait for your reviews after every episode. and you didn't disappoint I completely missed the scene where they're sprinting in front of the warthog. although I did realize how fast they run when Chief told Riz and Vannek to get in the warthog man they were hauling ass. love this episode but got to say I'm like you I wish the stuff on Madrigal good get moving because right now it's just kind of slowing down the plot of the show. By far the best episode. I yelled when Chief jumped on the top of the Banshee. I was wondering if they would stick to the kids being replaced with flash clones I was glad to see they did. I’m looking forward to see where the show goes from here
If you put headphones on, that growl that the brute makes is actually a word, he says "human". I hope the dialogue from the brutes gets better than that as the series progresses
I absolutely ADORE Cortana and Chiefs dichotomy this season, with her being the perfect little sassy AI we all know and love. Everytime I hear her voice it's nostalgia-endorphin city, haha.
I think a very important detail on the forerunners glyphs that made me fangirl like crazy since the very first time is the reclaimer logo or glyph. And i think the "blessed" theory is theory created by humanity with ignorance of actual forerunner history. Being another huge reference to main cannon. The reason why the MC is able to interact with forerunner artifacts in the series and that he becomes more aware is because of the reclaimer prophecy and transition is the same as the one shown in the game such as Halo 4

You forgot to mention that the Kig-Yar in the Silver Timeline bleed orange blood as opposed to the more common purple variety like that of the Sangheili and Jiralhanae. Also, it’s not as easy to see, but the grunts still bleed the same cyan color like in Core Canon
I hope season 2 brings to light that MC either read their lips or heard every whisper and plot the unsc tried to keep from him. It looks like they shot each scene almost hinting at that idea.
About 7 minutes into this episode there is another easter egg. The scene is very brief, most of the shots are just flashes of a yellow gun. But there it is, in plaim site. A golden .357 mag. The Chippy Rhino. it's a rare enough gun in America that it looks like it belongs in the future, which is probably why this six shooter shows up in Sci-fi movies.
Seeing the Spartans run at full speed with the Warthog was epic, after all them being superhuman and having the Mjolnir if this was real life that how fast they can run.
Kind of surprised you didn’t mention that the Grunt stealing the Warthog is a fun little reversal of when players usually steal Covenant vehicles like the Ghost to get around the map.
Finally someone who actually knows and understands the core lore of the Haloverse and can properly convey and show how extremely loyal Paramount and the show have been to the lore while trying to tell a different story in a different alternate timeline. Thank u for your research and work. The show is damn good so far 🔥

This felt like a love letter to fans, action was solid, stakes were were set higher, covenant designs look awesome, Grunt Hijacked a Warthog and we get to see Jacks with daggers. That was a good episode.

I actually built the UNSC Pioneer just at the end of last year on reach mcc, its my second destroyer. I'm hosting it every now and then on our socials or my colleague Jerome 092 II. But I was just gob smacked to see it in the series, sad about its fate though.
HiddenXperia pointed out that the rifle Keyes has at 10:23 also looks like the MA5K used in Ghosts of Onyx but with a paint job. Cool to see either way.
@@Autobotmatt428 I’d be fine with that for the Innies to show that their weapons are older without using stock 600 year old designs like a regular AR-15 or AK but I definitely want custom-made props of actual Halo guns for the UNSC.
Episodes 2 and 3 were pretty good from a character and story perspective but lacked any action. By the time of episode 4 I felt like the show was dragging a bit but this episode made up for that.
don't know if you know something when Kai was saying to that Spartan "do you ever wonder why" it was almost a reference from Red vs Blue "do you ever wonder why we are here", so in other words Kai almost said the one iconic liner that was from RvB
I don't think what happened to Kai vindicates Halsey I think it vindicates John. Kai was not ready to be in combat. I think it just shows that after the pellet is removed, like with any drug it takes time to get use to being off it.

Kate Kennedy (Kai-125) said episode 5 was the last episode they filmed for the season, which tells me that there might not be much action for the rest of the season save for maybe the season finale. Also, I think the covenant having the second artifact will bring them to Reach and eventually destroy the planet.
It’s interesting that aside from the jump out of the pelican in the trailer we have now seen everything from the promotional material. Since that looked like a desert, I’m assuming the finale takes place on madrigal (hopefully ending with it getting glassed)

First time I saw Capt. Keys, thought he was a actually Sgt. Johnson.lol. Sarge was probably the second toughest to kill, in game mode, next to the Master Chief.lol. Ohh, almost forgot Fo-Hammer, the pelican pilot.. She was pretty bada$$ too. Hope they can work them into the story arc soon!! (Btw, Sarge has a nice backstory in the book Contact Harvest)
Lots of comments griping about the cgi... Remember this is a Showtime production budget, not Disney. This show kinda parallels how The Expanse progressed. As popularity grew, the production budget got better from one season to the next.. This show is growing on me after a slow, albeit necessary, start. Hopefully they can keep it moving positively after Helmet-gate.lol
I think the series has dropped the ball, but your assessment in the context of all the core cannon has made me appreciate what I think the series makers were trying to do. Bottom line, your channel is making the series better for me.
I kind of like what they are doing because halo CE and halo reach have a weird transistion into them just running into the ring on accident and they are actually giving it a story to how they found it yet still sticking to the cannon
We thought it unrealistic and stupid. Cortana could take control but she can also stop the laws of nature? objects in motion stay in motion, yet she stops him and he drops like being pulled by gravity, when he should have pile drived into Halsey as a dud missile.
This episode was such a treat! There were so many small things that made me really happy and that battle was pure gold. While I’ve been ok with John removing his helmet quite a bit, i did really enjoy his scenes with his helmet on while not talking. Cortana and John’s banter and Silver Team on the battlefield made me happier than a kid at a candy store. The Brute Chieftain definitely looked a lot like Atriox. The only thing that I didn’t like was when John lounged at Halsey. I guess I’m ok with it for this Silver Canon but it hurts my heart lol. As far as the emotional suppression pellets, I’ve been wondering if the show is taking inspiration from the S-III program….specifically GAMA company’s unique battle focused augmentations to their brains.
At 4:52 -- you missed the easter egg in Kai's questioning. It was a reference to the first scene of Red vs. Blue. Kai said "you ever wonder why we fight the Covenant?" like Grif says "you ever wonder why we're here?"
The action was very good and very halo. My gripes though are with chief though. I get that this is a new chief and he removed his pellet but I can not picture him just lash out and charge at Halsey. Also you have humanities most advanced AI and perhaps the only one of its kind in this universe, why isn’t Cortana studying the artifact with Halsey? Is Cortana just stuck to the master chief?
tbh this Halsey is way more ruthless and less caring canon halsey was, and more manipulative with all the brainwashing, i tough it was understandable with the Halsey we got, hopefully they set up her arc to be like in Ghost of Onyx where she starts to regret all the things she did and wishes to save all her spartans instead of just seeing them as weapons
Core John had decades to work through all of the emotions and horrors of the Spartan program. Silver John is more or less at the point Core John was at during the bootcamp.
A small aside but I totally dig the developing relationship between Miranda and Kai. I also think this alternate timeline proves the wisdom of core cannon’s Halsey having the policy of “don’t lie to Spartans”. Edit: grammar
I thought it was realistic that Kai had a panic attack while fighting. All her "ice-cold killer" training was dependent on her inhibitor pellet. Without it, she is emotionally a new recruit. I assume, however, that she and John will get used to having emotions while fighting, and they may even discover that they are more effective with them.
@@Autobotmatt428 John has been been reacting irrationally in his own way as we have seen. Kai just had an anxiety attack. I thought this was a great way to show how the inhibitor chip takes away 'humanity' so to speak but in cases of war has its benefits. I wonder if after this, John and Kai decide to place the chip back in to improve their combat abilities.
It’s a cop out, all that desensitisation training the Spartan II candidates would have been through, but in this timeline basically it’s a bit of internal jewellery between being emotionless and over come with emotions.
@@5RndsFFE But that’s the thing about this timeline. The Spartans did all their training and missions with those inhibitor pellets in place. So there wasn’t any desensitization. Without the pellets they are feeling the anxieties of battle for the first time.

lol the idea the Covenant girl touched the rock and somehow learned the information the elite literally just told her they found just kills me. it feels like she's lying to remain in control like one of those people that tries to guess what you are gonna say by bluring out words that sound just like the sound your trying to make to speak. also if the artifact was able to be lifted by 2 Spartans why would they need a crane to lift it out of the hole
My main issue with this episode is Cortana having control of chief's body on standby and being able to essentially shut him down, which was one of the first things the Fall of Reach stated she specifically couldn't do. I feel like it'll only cause more disdain for Cortana from Chief

I think it's pretty ludicrous Soren got outsmarted by a bratty 17 year old
She acted like a toddler.
That sequence was the stupidest shit yet, Soren a Spartan II with augmented senses somehow outwitted by some yokel with a trench coat and some gravel.

By far the best episode. I yelled when Chief jumped on the top of the Banshee. I was wondering if they would stick to the kids being replaced with flash clones I was glad to see they did. I’m looking forward to see where the show goes from here
If you put headphones on, that growl that the brute makes is actually a word, he says "human". I hope the dialogue from the brutes gets better than that as the series progresses
I absolutely ADORE Cortana and Chiefs dichotomy this season, with her being the perfect little sassy AI we all know and love. Everytime I hear her voice it's nostalgia-endorphin city, haha.

Kai was freaking adorable in this episode, minus the freeze-up of course.
I think a very important detail on the forerunners glyphs that made me fangirl like crazy since the very first time is the reclaimer logo or glyph.
And i think the "blessed" theory is theory created by humanity with ignorance of actual forerunner history.
Being another huge reference to main cannon.
The reason why the MC is able to interact with forerunner artifacts in the series and that he becomes more aware is because of the reclaimer prophecy and transition is the same as the one shown in the game such as Halo 4
It makes me giggle that I think Soren has 'The Last Word' for Destiny 2 though ;)

You forgot to mention that the Kig-Yar in the Silver Timeline bleed orange blood as opposed to the more common purple variety like that of the Sangheili and Jiralhanae.
Also, it’s not as easy to see, but the grunts still bleed the same cyan color like in Core Canon

I hope season 2 brings to light that MC either read their lips or heard every whisper and plot the unsc tried to keep from him. It looks like they shot each scene almost hinting at that idea.
About 7 minutes into this episode there is another easter egg. The scene is very brief, most of the shots are just flashes of a yellow gun. But there it is, in plaim site. A golden .357 mag. The Chippy Rhino. it's a rare enough gun in America that it looks like it belongs in the future, which is probably why this six shooter shows up in Sci-fi movies.
Seeing the Spartans run at full speed with the Warthog was epic, after all them being superhuman and having the Mjolnir if this was real life that how fast they can run.
Somewhere in the episode I heard someone say “November 15” over loudspeaker. Nov. 15 being a clear reference as Halo CE’s release day.

Kind of surprised you didn’t mention that the Grunt stealing the Warthog is a fun little reversal of when players usually steal Covenant vehicles like the Ghost to get around the map.
Finally someone who actually knows and understands the core lore of the Haloverse and can properly convey and show how extremely loyal Paramount and the show have been to the lore while trying to tell a different story in a different alternate timeline. This felt like a love letter to fans, action was solid, stakes were were set higher, covenant designs look awesome, Grunt Hijacked a Warthog and we get to see Jacks with daggers. That was a good episode.

I actually built the UNSC Pioneer just at the end of last year on reach mcc, its my second destroyer. I'm hosting it every now and then on our socials or my colleague Jerome 092 II. But I was just gob smacked to see it in the series, sad about its fate though.
HiddenXperia pointed out that the rifle Keyes has at 10:23 also looks like the MA5K used in Ghosts of Onyx but with a paint job. Cool to see either way.
Don't know its a mock up of some kind though it could be an MA5K like canon said though it could also be a BR85.
Kinda wish they used real weapons and mocked them up to look like halo guns. Like use a Desert tech MDR or Tavor something.
That rifle is a modified CSI STAR XR-5. Interesting choice by the prop designers to use an airsoft gun in place of a molded MA5C or BR55 prop.
@@Autobotmatt428 I’d be fine with that for the Innies to show that their weapons are older without using stock 600 year old designs like a regular AR-15 or AK but I definitely want custom-made props of actual Halo guns for the UNSC.
Such a short enjoyable episode
Episode 5 was the best by far. Yeah there's small things I don't like about the show but overall I'm coming around to it.
It's far from perfect, but personally I'm just stoked to finally have a live-action Halo series. I've been waiting over 15 years for this.
Episodes 2 and 3 were pretty good from a character and story perspective but lacked any action. By the time of episode 4 I felt like the show was dragging a bit but this episode made up for that.
Agreed I enjoyed those episodes but it needed some action in each of them to keep the story more interesting

don't know if you know something when Kai was saying to that Spartan "do you ever wonder why" it was almost a reference from Red vs Blue "do you ever wonder why we are here", so in other words Kai almost said the one iconic liner that was from RvB
I don't think what happened to Kai vindicates Halsey I think it vindicates John. Kai was not ready to be in combat. I think it just shows that after the pellet is removed, like with any drug it takes time to get use to being off it.
Totally disagree, John and Kai both validated Halseys choice. They both were completely unstable in combat for very different reasons.
I thought so, cause it takes time to adjust after the implant removal. Kai wasn't fully ready for it, while John managed to get a grip... barely

Kate Kennedy (Kai-125) said episode 5 was the last episode they filmed for the season, which tells me that there might not be much action for the rest of the season save for maybe the season finale. Also, I think the covenant having the second artifact will bring them to Reach and eventually destroy the planet.
It’s interesting that aside from the jump out of the pelican in the trailer we have now seen everything from the promotional material. Since that looked like a desert, I’m assuming the finale takes place on madrigal (hopefully ending with it getting glassed)
@@buffalosabres91 i personally think reach will be glassed. As far as I can tell, the covenant no longer has an interest in madrigal and the artifact they're looking for is on reach.

First time I saw Capt. Keys, thought he was a actually Sgt. Johnson.lol. Sarge was probably the second toughest to kill, in game mode, next to the Master Chief.lol. Ohh, almost forgot Fo-Hammer, the pelican pilot.. She was pretty bada$$ too. Hope they can work them into the story arc soon!! (Btw, Sarge has a nice backstory in the book Contact Harvest)
Lots of comments griping about the cgi... Remember this is a Showtime production budget, not Disney. This show kinda parallels how The Expanse progressed. As popularity grew, the production budget got better from one season to the next.. This show is growing on me after a slow, albeit necessary, start. Hopefully they can keep it moving positively after Helmet-gate.lol
I think the series has dropped the ball, but your assessment in the context of all the core cannon has made me appreciate what I think the series makers were trying to do. Bottom line, your channel is making the series better for me.
I kind of like what they are doing because halo CE and halo reach have a weird transistion into them just running into the ring on accident and they are actually giving it a story to how they found it yet still sticking to the cannon

We thought it unrealistic and stupid. Cortana could take control but she can also stop the laws of nature? objects in motion stay in motion, yet she stops him and he drops like being pulled by gravity, when he should have pile drived into Halsey as a dud missile.
This episode was such a treat! There were so many small things that made me really happy and that battle was pure gold. While I’ve been ok with John removing his helmet quite a bit, i did really enjoy his scenes with his helmet on while not talking.
Cortana and John’s banter and Silver Team on the battlefield made me happier than a kid at a candy store. The Brute Chieftain definitely looked a lot like Atriox.
The only thing that I didn’t like was when John lounged at Halsey. I guess I’m ok with it for this Silver Canon but it hurts my heart lol.
As far as the emotional suppression pellets, I’ve been wondering if the show is taking inspiration from the S-III program….specifically GAMA company’s unique battle focused augmentations to their brains.
I would also yeet the pistol at the enemy if I ran outta ammo

The action was very good and very halo. My gripes though are with chief though. I get that this is a new chief and he removed his pellet but I can not picture him just lash out and charge at Halsey. Also you have humanities most advanced AI and perhaps the only one of its kind in this universe, why isn’t Cortana studying the artifact with Halsey? Is Cortana just stuck to the master chief?
Shes physically inserted into his nervous system in this universe, ala RVB, yes.
tbh this Halsey is way more ruthless and less caring canon halsey was, and more manipulative with all the brainwashing, i tough it was understandable with the Halsey we got, hopefully they set up her arc to be like in Ghost of Onyx where she starts to regret all the things she did and wishes to save all her spartans instead of just seeing them as weapons

Core John had decades to work through all of the emotions and horrors of the Spartan program. Silver John is more or less at the point Core John was at during the bootcamp.
A small aside but I totally dig the developing relationship between Miranda and Kai.
I also think this alternate timeline proves the wisdom of core cannon’s Halsey having the policy of “don’t lie to Spartans”.

I thought it was realistic that Kai had a panic attack while fighting. All her "ice-cold killer" training was dependent on her inhibitor pellet. Without it, she is emotionally a new recruit. I assume, however, that she and John will get used to having emotions while fighting, and they may even discover that they are more effective with them.
John seemed fine in the fight aside from the Anger he Channeled it to good use.
@@Autobotmatt428 John has been been reacting irrationally in his own way as we have seen. Kai just had an anxiety attack. I thought this was a great way to show how the inhibitor chip takes away 'humanity' so to speak but in cases of war has its benefits. I wonder if after this, John and Kai decide to place the chip back in to improve their combat abilities.
It’s a cop out, all that desensitisation training the Spartan II candidates would have been through, but in this timeline basically it’s a bit of internal jewellery between being emotionless and over come with emotions.
@@5RndsFFE But that’s the thing about this timeline. The Spartans did all their training and missions with those inhibitor pellets in place. So there wasn’t any desensitization. Without the pellets they are feeling the anxieties of battle for the first time.

lol the idea the Covenant girl touched the rock and somehow learned the information the elite literally just told her they found just kills me. it feels like she's lying to remain in control like one of those people that tries to guess what you are gonna say by bluring out words that sound just like the sound your trying to make to speak. also if the artifact was able to be lifted by 2 Spartans why would they need a crane to lift it out of the hole
I like how this video proves so many die hard halo fans how similar the tv show actually is to the games lore.

My main issue with this episode is Cortana having control of chief's body on standby and being able to essentially shut him down, which was one of the first things the Fall of Reach stated she specifically couldn't do. I feel like it'll only cause more disdain for Cortana from Chief
I mean, its what Halsey said she could do in this version, and its kinda the reason she was given clearance to proceed with her (more or less anyway).
