The title is a play on words from the book A Town Like Alice.

if you listen closer to the lyrics you'll realise 'A Town called Malice' would not be a great place to visit. The music is very upbeat though,

You should react to a song by them called "In the City" next from 1977. It sounds really Punk Rock and I had it on a late 70's and early 80's Punk compilation album in the 90's and listened to it a lot. It sounds like a band that had mohawk haircuts and studded leather sang it even though The Jam wore suits and dressed like the mid-sixties British mod style then

They're not singing about an actual town called Malice. If you listen to the lyrics you'd understand it's really not a place you'd ever want to visit. Do you even know what the word Malice means? They're singing about a menacing place that needs changed for the better. As someone already said it's a play on words from a book called A Town Like Alice.

Lae and Brooke great to see you Reacting to music from 60s, 70s, 80s. You'll find really good musicians. Bruce Foxton (bass guitarist for The Jam) is so under rated. Have you managed to get around to Reacting to Deep Purple's "Child in Time"? Brooke you loved the previous one, but "Child in Time" is up there with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".

You need to listen to the lyrics: the tone and music are upbeat, but the lyrics are the opposite, and Malice is an imaginary town, but as the meaning of the word “Malice” implies ( meaning threatening, or if you do something with malice, you are doing something with bad intentions) …it’s about living in a very economically depressed town…with the feeling of no hope of escaping, if you were to be born and growing up there…
To put it in context in the US, it’s almost referring to somewhere like Detroit, or Gary, Indiana…
