  • Emily in paris reaction Is Paris that perfect? Today I will be reacting to the Netflix series Emily in Paris. As a Parisian, a fashion marketing executive and influencer, I think my reaction to emily in paris will give a reality check on all the french stereotypes and a real point of view on what life is really like in Paris.
This reaction to Emily in Paris will help you see the real Paris, but what about the french culture are those french stereotypes portrayed in emily in Paris real ? I share my point of view and my own experience of moving and living in Paris and react to the experience of Emily, the all american girl living in paris…

I live in Canada and we don't do that here. My boss is extremely casual but we still don't do that. There are certain times where you can ask personal questions or ask if they want to go to lunch etc. Usually it's if they're away from their desk in common areas like the coat room, lunch room etc, or if they're just arriving or just leaving. Otherwise we let them approach us and then we bring up questions like that if they're not pressed for time or stressed.
Much of Emily's behaviour is intrusive as if demanding attention which is why she comes off as rude.

The weird thing is not that they work later in france, it's that she doesn't ask when they start, she just comes when she thinks it's right, then tells her boss and coworkers that they shouldn't be late. But after finishing it and looking back i definitely don't like the way they portrayed France and its citizens and just the whole america (usa) is so much better point of view! so i also wished they would have made it more educational on french society, but i guess they were trying to be funny ? anyway, me encantó el video y ver tu reacción teniendo en cuenta que vives ahí :) lots of love

We do grow up with a lot of American tv shows and English music. But most of those tv show are dubbed in French. Even if it's easier now to get the OG versions. But that's not how she learned English. The way she speaks she spend some time in an English speaking country. There are still a lot of people that do not speak English in France, so if you approach them and only speak English to them , they get flustered and go away, I don't think most of them are intentionally rude.

Ha. Love all these “a French person reacts to Emily in Paris” videos. It’s interesting though I was less focused on the French stereotypes and inaccuracies and more on all the things they got wrong about being a marketer. Especially for someone with her entry level experience.
Separately, as an American, I will say it’s not unrealistic to just pop into ur boss’ office for a question or chat. Tho u usually wouldn’t ask ur boss out to lunch unless you had a problem to chat through. Sometimes they’ll invite u for a casual lunch in less formal organizations. But usually they’re eating with their peers or working through lunch.

Pal, the lady in the video is not French. Look around, it's not just French people who found this show offensive.
Also, good for you that in your country your companies work like that, but in Europe we think that doors exist for knocking, and that it's good form to say hello when you see someone in the morning, especially when you're dealing with a person in a higher position, not to mention older than you. And, you might have noticed, Emily is not in the US, she is in France. Of course she may make mistakes, but if you look at the show it's obvious it never dawns on her that she might be breaking social rules, no, it's the French who are crazy and rude and mean. So, word of advice, when you go work abroad you make the effort to check yourself before you judge.

I totally get the unrealism of the story in the show and how impossible it would be to get Emily’s job in Paris without speaking French but they actually did a good job in the series in explaining why she was in the position she was in. What irritates me is the whole american point of view... ok the clichés can exist and can be real (it's very exagerated in this show, but ok)... but I hate Emily, she is so condescending.
And why would they think that a luxury french business needs an american point of view ? I agree with hiring young people to bring fresh ideas and make agencies and companies more modern but like you said, they already know they have to keep up (or the bussiness dies) so they are usually already modern ideas etc... escpially in 2020/2021 lol. AND to think that an american would know better when they could hire french people to do the same job (who know the language and the culture), Emily has no value (as a junior). i'm not saying she sucks at her job but just that it wouldn't make sense to put her there

There are ton of buildings in Chicago that have the firs level as Ground floor or Lobby and the next floor up is 1st floor. So the fact that a girl from Chicago would act like she has never seen a 1st floor that’s on top of the ground floor is not realistic.

This show also gives a bad impression of American women tbh. I was born and raised in Texas and both side of my family are immigrants. My mom's side is also Filipino and my dad's side is European and Mexican. I was raised to have manners and I don't think I ever came across a person that wouldn't knock before stepping into their boss's office. Maybe things are different in Texas than other places in the US but to my knowledge and experience most Americans are nice and forgiving. Sometimes you might catch us on a bad day the same way you would be with a French person but I wouldn't treat an isolated incident like that and then generalize and pass judgment on a whole group of people because of one bad experience.

But they could have gone to some of the really quiet stations; I know that some of the ones in the 16th are very dead. The metro’s featured a lot in film/ tv, so I don’t buy it. I think, the creators behind Emily in Paris just weren’t Parisians and thus, for some bizarre reason chose not to show it. I know in London that filming often takes place in an abandoned Tube station; I can’t see why this couldn’t have happened with Emily.

Some French people speak of Americans badly ; that they are loud and eat poorly. Of course it hurts if you are not that way to hear that. Basically movies are not real. Of course not all the French are the same and all Americans are not the same. Paris is also not France as NYC is not all the USA.

Bringing pastries for EVERYONE on the first day?
I usually thought of this as for the last day, maybe birthday or before your wedding, but first day?
If the company is bigger, it would cost. A lot. And some people have a gap between jobs, they might be barely making the ends meet at the time. Then it might turn out that this person is on diet, that person is gluten/lactose intolerant, another one cuts off sugar etc. and you end with wasted food, unless it's ok for the "bringer" to take it home if it's not consumed.
Not hating, just my thoughts on it

"The customer is always right" is such an entitled way of thinking. I quite appreciate French people for not following that. It probably comes form the fact that, businesses that go by "the customer is always right" are gonna adapt to what clients want (it's more money efficient to give people what they want), yet the business that don't go by that, have a real integrity to their Brand, to their craftmanship ....probably like French chefs. Now, having said all that, I have not been to France and I don't know if it's that attitude from honoring the services they offer, or if it goes into being rude.
    .
You can see this in how personalized orders are in the US when going out to eat, but I totally get that not being 'normal' (well, I am European). If you go to a restaurant you go to eat what they have to offer, they are not your private chefs. And if you don't like it, it's not something they should do about it, you should not go there anymore.
Btw, Emily's attitude with the steak ....horribly entitled. :)))

    • @benzaiten933
      @benzaiten933 3 года назад

the difference there would be that Betty was very nice, worked hard and even though she started out not knowing about the industry she was eager to learn and improve.
so everything Emily isn't as she didn't even bother to improve her French just a bit and the only reason she wasn't fired many times was because the writers were lazy and had to beat everyone up with the worthless 'the USA is better than anyone else' trope.
