Although, Rory did a good job, his price for a ine minute video edit is just too high. I wouldn't even go with the first one, which to me seems very jarring. Travel videos are something you want to watch and enjoy at a slower pace
I liked the first edit and, although the swirly transitions are a bit naff, the colour co-ordination between the underside of the Arc and the autumn leaf worked really well, I thought. I was expecting much more from the second edit. Yes the music sounded more cinematic but was its mood appropriate for a travel-type video? Also, the fake night and storm effects just seemed out of place - like they put them in just because they could and not because they fitted the mood. In fact, the second edit couldn't seem to identify and settle on a mood for the sequence. The same with the fuzzy, glitchy effects and transitions - very clever and well executed, but what did they add to the narrative arc? The stabilization, colour grading and overall treatment of the video was far more professionally done than the first edit, but I much preferred Thinupa's effort overall, as his choice of clips and journey creation was way more engaging. Money well spent, I'd say.
Great feedback Tony, I really appreciate your thoughts on this 🙏 It’s always nice to hear other people’s opinions and get new perspectives on things like this. You’ve made some very valid points on both edits 💻👌
Completely agree with you! The music in the second edit seemed a bit out of the place and the video was shorter than I expected. Just like you, I didn't like the blue storm effects; too much saturation and out of place. The first video seemed a bit less professional but was a good job for $250 as compared to $700. Also, the first video was more engaging and kept the interest in the city, as a travel video should.
You pointed out my initial thoughts and a couple extra. For someone who's just about to try their first video this comparison was very helpful and showed that having a team and fancy things I've yet to learn about absolutely isn't necessary. Massive confidence boost in this comment and this video for me. I'm not an artistic type so I find spotting some of these things pretty difficult
Rory's video was better because it gave me a chance to focus and absorb the subjects better. I'm not a big one for "flickering" type videos. They almost make me dizzy, LOL! I really enjoy your content. I know how hard it is to put your videos together!! Thank you!!
I travel a lot and always create videos of my trips. I love capturing evocative B-roll and cinematic shots (as much as is possible with my travel itinerary), and my top goals in making each travel video is 1) to evoke a sense of place, i.e. what is unique to that location, and 2) to make the viewer feel what I experienced. In my opinion, both edits prioritized editing techniques, so that the videos are more about the editing itself than they are about Paris and experiencing it. Of the two edits, I prefer the second one, although I find the music ominous and wonder why a travel video would want to present Paris as being ominous. I think both edits would work well as opening sequences for an action film set in Paris, but don’t work as stand-alone travel videos. I’m sure some people will completely disagree with me, but I hope that my viewpoint will be courteously considered.
Bonjour, effectivement, je ne rejoins pas votre avis ni sur le choix ni sur le choix promo d'un film ...plutot le 1 en incitation au voyage mais, les gouts et les couleurs ...
Could you please do your own edit of the Paris footage so we can see yours against the fiverr guys please? I preferred the second one. Thank you for all your advice you share with us.
I think I liked both of the edits, they both had different things that I liked and things that I didn't like. The one thing that I thought your video on RUclips should have had was an edit of the footage by you. After all, you know the energy in the clips that you took. I think that makes a difference. The person taking the video knows the energy of the area, they know what they want to portray. They know what they want to focus on. Someone on the outside doesn't, to them, they're just clips.
I prefer the first one, more information was provided about the place. The second one seemed sad to me. I would like to see how you edit these clips. Seeing Paris from your eyes. I also filmed some clips of my trip to Paris with my phone... Thank you for the tips on your past videos they were very helpful... It was my first time in Paris. The amount of information, making constant decisions of what to shoot or not to shoot was very interesting. Another nice place to see the city with the Effiel tower it's from the Pantheon. Thank you again for your excellent work.
More importantly than which video I thought was better is how much enjoyed your refreshing presentation. You didn’t waste a frame here, it was compelling up to the end so kudos for that. I think I preferred the second one. I am more drawn to the dramatic and it felt a little more cinematic to me. My only issue is that it seemed to lack a definite ending…just seemed like someone hit the stop button before the edit was over. Anyway, great video, subscribed.
As a viewer, I was more captivated by the first option; it held my interest and made me curious to see what would come next. On the other hand, the second option didn't engage me as much, and my attention started to wander. Therefore, if your aim is to create an aesthetically pleasing video for seniors, then the second option might be the best choice. However, if your objective is to capture and maintain the audience's attention until the end, I would recommend going with the first option. These are just my observations from an outsider's perspective. Remember, sometimes 'better' doesn't always mean more effective.
True, I concur with you. I was more focused and wanted to see what clip was added next and the transition with the first video, also the music with the first video was good and engaging.
This video was so cool.. really watched the 2nd half with a big smile on my face great concept and interesting to watch.. For me Rory’s was the better edit and video to watch you do often get what you pay for and this is a prime example of
I have been shooting mostly stock video clips. I have never thought to do a 60 second short video. For me the most amazing thing about what you did was coming up with 60 seconds of meaningful music for the background. Both were well done.
I would say both. The first one is little fast paced and he has used more fancy stuffs to keep the output creative. Where on the second one, the editor kept things minimalistic and gave some space to let the audience see footage in depth and made the output look like a pro level movie trailer. And loved your explanation ❤
I was in Paris with my father over 30 years ago; I imagine a lot has changed during this time. I was amazed at how condense the city was from the top down view.
Man this video is much better than what they did it for u, u r recording very well and have a lot of experience in video making, thank you very much for sharing these information.
I love both editing but it is the first one that captures the emotion, it creates a story which viewers like to see and feel when watching travel videos. The progression of the music is superb. And for a cheaper price, that is worth the money.
I liked the build up too the Eiffel tower in the second video The use off music, sounds effects and the right clips leading to a big reveal at the end tells a story without words 👍
Hi Steve. Thanks again for another quality instructive video. The editing part of creating YT videos scares me every time I think of it and I haven't even started! I find myself immersed in your videos, imagining how I might do things with variations here and there. With regards to the two edits above I thought the professionalism of "Rory" shone through. His choice of music carried through, linking the slo-mo shots and giving the whole video Tempo. I thought a central character or object would have worked really well, giving us a beginning, middle and end but then I remembered, It's a B-ROLL!!! LOL! So, once again, thank you. You've given me heaps of ideas for when I finally do take the plunge and get enough confidence to post my work. Cheers from New Zealand.
The first video had errors, but I found it to be far more engaging than the second video which bored me quickly! If the first guy polishes some things he would surely be a winner cause his style is dynamic and fun, for example the train sequence - loved it!
I actually liked the first edit better, but agree there was a little too many effects added. I didn't catch whether or not you gave any guidance or instructions !?! I thought you did a great job providing a lot of awesome footage, but editing wise, I could go without the over production in both versions. I learned a long time ago to give suggestions and preferences to artists before setting them loose. Great informative video 👍
Yes, Rory's edit was far superior, in that (as you said) the 'sound design,' which properly ascended toward the end, really enhanced the cinematic feel of the piece, whereas, the first creator, in my view, simply 'over-edited' the whole clip, which, unfortunately, cheapened your excellent camera work, resulting in a rather annoying overall result. Excellent video, mate, and the product placement was seamlessly perfect! Cheers from a fellow creator in San Diego, California!
I actually like the first edit better. More movement and he did use more of your actual footage. I found the second edit a bit boring as he used the same type of clip over and over and nothing that dynamic. Thanks for sharing all this. Very interesting. I knew about Fiverr but never really looked into it. But now I will. 👍
Art Is not a subject to compare but to enjoy. Both edits are great, one is action, impacting transitions while the other one is more conservative and detailed. The money both costed is a personal value. I would have charge twice 😁😁😁
Im a complete beginner who shot a film for my fb yesterday. I got a great response. This why im here. My opinion is that both did their best because 60 secs isn't much time with so much footage. Roy was better. Thankyou for helping us. I will using your methods because your interesting. Subscription added.
Both videos were fast paced, almost hyper active, and both lacked a “sense of pacing”. They both looked like they were trying to to shove as many clips as possible into a limited amount of time. That isn’t story telling and I feel both were a waste of money. Slow it down. Selectively know which clips to throw out, that don’t contribute to evoking a meaningful “experience”. Story telling.
Well he wanted most of his 300 clips cramped inside a 1 minute video, what else did you expect? He was even disappointed when some of his fake drone shots were not included,
I guess both of them did a decent job. Every artist has his own style. I am not sure if you have specified overall vibe i.e. slow/fast ( your videos were a mix bag slow-motion, timelapse, car, trains etc.). I am worried about when AI editors will take over. For now , thank you for sharing a great video and beautiful glimpses of Paris! 😊
I was impressed by the first edit for sure. Thinupa was able to squeeze many shots and was more exciting and dramatic in a 60-sec film. Yes the swirly bits can be ignored but again that is what today's most travel films are about. As for Rory, it was a bit yawns and with definitely lesser content in it. a more 70 ish straight forward.
Really fun concept - I learn best and get the most inspiration by seeing what others create - the capture footage and then edit combination RUclips video is one I love
I like better the first edit it has some sort of immersive movement and dynamic the second one is more of a soft and cinematic theme and more some sort of better quality but both were goood!
very interesting ! the second edit is better for sure , but, not two times better , you sent them so much footages , there are so much good shorts can be choose , the video could be longer and fuller
I definitely preferred the second one for the same reasons as you, Steve. Swirly transitions are a no-no for me in travel videos. What I'd like to see would be a similar edit challenge but with spoken storytelling added
Отличное видео,я знаю английский только по школьной программе,но ваше видео смотрю без перевода и мне всё понятно. Вот что значит есть цель-нет преград!Спасибо за отличное видео!
really interesting competition! I like the second one, it looks like a real cinematic video. The first one used too many effects and feel tired if you saw it the second time.
I liked the idea of fake drone. Which stick did you use to hold the iphone and the gimbal? The extended sticks from insta360 don’t seem solid enough to carry such heavy set up.
I simply love the trics and tips you give us on how to capture our footage... You give us good technics and ideas on how to acheive our goals. But about the edited footage I saw here... None of them pleased me for the amont of money it cost. I don't know... maybe it's just my style, but I was disapointed in both of them... Way too fast for me. Way too expensive for me (that's only a minute!) I'm glad I learn how to edit and make my own videos. (And I'm still learning... watching your vids dude! 😊 ) have a great one! 😁
This is a great video - thanks for your hard work. The first video feels very “RUclipsy” and frankly frenetic. The second video was better but pace didn’t change much throughout. It’s great too see what your money can buy in the editing market for sure. Finally, after watching a few of your videos, I’m amazed to see what you are getting out of the native camera app on the iPhone. I’m starting to think it’s more than just good enough to make great little films. 👏🏻
Salut Steve, Excellent travail ! Didier Orléans centre France Orléans Hi Steve, Great job! It's really enjoyable to watch and rewatch. A colossal editing job... 300 rushes (wow)! It's huge, but it took that many to achieve this result. Well done for the angle in the middle of the Champs-Élysées, even if it was perhaps a little risky. I've carefully watched both proposals, each three times. The two approaches are very different, and the choice of music greatly influences the proposed themes. I approve of both, but I have a slight preference for proposal number 1. For me, it's more inviting to travel and discover Paris, it's more "touristy" and "salesy". Proposal number 2 is nice, but it's less emotionally charged in my opinion. Congratulations again! Didier from Centre France in Orléans
I’m using the ‘PGYTECH CapLock Action Camera Neck Mount’ with an iPhone 13 PRO Max for BTS. The neck mount allows for a really nice perspective without having to hold a camera in my mouth. Plus the iPhone image perfectly matches my smart phone footage 📱👍
Rory’s was a clear winner for the story telling as well, transitions, and sound. In the end depends on what this is going to be used for. If it’s for commercial purposes, I think I would go with Rory despite the price. If I was just doing this for RUclips, for example,Thinupa would clearly be more economical and acceptable.
I prefer the second edit. The first one use too much kitsch effects… I would be interested to see your editing actually, it would finish well your video. But I would say that you are doing an incredible work, very inspiring. Thanks a lot !
Excellent video. Did you specify editors who use Final Cut Pro X only, so you could tweak them afterwards? That would help you salvage a less-than-ideal edit yourself after they do the groundwork and maybe make the cheaper editor more of a value proposition?
I didn't actually think of this but it's great idea! For this experiment I wanted to see what each edit would look like completely untouched by myself. If this was a project that I wanted to re-edit though then choosing editors who work in Final cut would be crucial. Thanks
Just me and because my life has been on the lower end all the time. Wages, spending etc. I would go with Thinupa. The twist was not great but seems to be used by a lot of people. You got more of your footage shown in his. Both were better than I could even dream of doing. I would like to see what they could do with a 2 minute video. There is a lot of footage left out. Both were good.
I am note sure the second footage worthes its price... I noticed a clean orbit shot around the statue before the editing, on your rushes. You also succeeded in maintaining the Arc de Triomphe perfectly centered in your fake drone shot. I would be curious to know how you do such clean shots : setting of your gimbal, setting of (native ?) camera app ? (my orbits are awfully shaking....)... That's when you try to imit the master that you understand what a newby you are ! Perhaps these are two subjects for future video ;o)
Thinupa's video looks like a skilled beginner gave everything he knew he could do to impress his customer, even though he sometimes did too much Rory's one looks like he knows his job perfectly with way more skills and feelings than Thinupa but clearly didn't gave everything he had
I like the second one because the color and transitions were better. It felt cinematic so he did execute what was promised. It felt like the start of a movie or short film. I also liked the first one because it gave me a feel for the people of Paris and the everyday life of ppl coming and going but I wouldn't say I liked the transitions. Personally, I'd go with the first guy based on the price, and if it includes revisions I'd ask him to brighten the color a bit and use more seamless transitions along with stabilizing the footage and boom.
Those guys did a good jobs considering that they were not the original shooters of the content. While shooting these clips I am sure Steve had a different thought of a story he wanted to portray but anyway thanks for sharing your tips here
I think the 1st vid was solid, I kinda like the twist transition that was done, and the music was ok. The 2nd one def had better music and cinematic feel in rhythm with the track…but the 2nd vid was almost too fast paced…but some of those transitions were really high quality. Interesting comparison!
As an amateur videographer no where near your level I really enjoy watching your clips. I would really have liked you to have put a link to the footage that you used on here so we could have had a go ourselves, I would have loved to compare my play ground level editing to the paid pros. Keep up the posts. PS I thought the 1st video was the better value for money but I do agree with you that some of the transitions were a bit iffy.
Are you shooting with correct shutter speeds to the 180 degree rule of film making, when you use your phone? Only ask because I never see ND filters on your phone. cool vid
@@LearnOnlineVideo thank you so much for the quick response. you’re the most reliable person to learn everything I need to know about smartphone filmmaking. keep creating.
What do you think of the final edits? Which one was best and was it worth the money? Let me know below 👇
Which mode do I use on my gimbal when I use extension rods for fake drone shot so that the gimbal motor doesn’t mess up while recording?

I comletely agree with your viewpoint! You found a very right word for the music: "ominous". Paris is not ominous at all.
No, I completely agree with you. Neither edit. It told the story.
Absolutely agree with your point. By the way, what type of video is appropriate instead of ominous for a travel video?

The same idea. It would be great to see Steve's version!
Yes! I would like to see Steve’s version, which I suspect will be very different because he was actually there experiencing Paris.
Both are too quick for my eyes😂 I like things a bit slower, so I have time to focus my eyes. Less is more🙂
Like to see you do one as well
Agreed!!!
both of them did a really good job. Video editor is amazing, that was a lot of works

What I'd like to see would be a similar edit challenge but with spoken storytelling added
Very interesting.... Heard about fiverr some years ago but I didn't think could have been so useful to compare different offers... thx
I live in a well filmed tourist area. Your drone shots are really a brilliant differentiator. So a 3m selfie stick...
Отличное видео,я знаю английский только по школьной программе,но ваше видео смотрю без перевода и мне всё понятно. Вот что значит есть цель-нет преград!Спасибо за отличное видео!
Editor number 2 on point 🎉
I like the clarity and emphasis of the British tongue
Looks so interesting filming . Thanks online learning ❤
really interesting competition! I like the second one, it looks like a real cinematic video. The first one used too many effects and feel tired if you saw it the second time.
I absolutely agree with you… the Best Value for Money, what the first One!
Can your smartphone LUTs be downloaded on smartphone or only laptop?
I liked the idea of fake drone. Which stick did you use to hold the iphone and the gimbal? The extended sticks from insta360 don’t seem solid enough to carry such heavy set up.
the edit changes everything, so good
much more emotion on the 2nd one -likely the music. I did like the first one too though
Thank you for this video. You are the best teacher!
Another excellent ideas and i love watching your video.. ❤
I’m very new to this, but I am fascinated by this channel!
Welcome Lisa 😉🎥👌
This is a great video - thanks for your hard work. The first video feels very “RUclipsy” and frankly frenetic. The second video was better but pace didn’t change much throughout. It’s great too see what your money can buy in the editing market for sure.
Finally, after watching a few of your videos, I’m amazed to see what you are getting out of the native camera app on the iPhone. I’m starting to think it’s more than just good enough to make great little films. 👏🏻
That transition at 13:59 🔥
Absolutely love this channel!

Hi Steve,
Great job!

This is absolute gold , I love your videos and I have learned a lot from them thankyou 🙏
Great video . Steve what are you using to capture the phone and your hands BTS shots ? ( GoPro with mouth piece / Dji pocket etc ? ) thanks again😊
Thanks for the reply . Love your vids
Rory Was Classy and elegant. the other felt "off the shelf"
The second editor, he did a good video editing n music also good
Very use full video ❤ Thankyou brother ❤
Ya I didn’t mind them both and I would say worth it
Can i get a link as well to your past footages, i'd love to try them out as well.
Cinematic videos, B Rolls. It's all about preference mostly. I say both are good in their own ways.
👍👍 what kind of gumball are you using?🙏🙏🙏
Now I got the clarity on why pro's will charge more and definatly worth it.
Thinupa's video looks like a skilled beginner gave everything he knew he could do to impress his customer, even though he sometimes did too much
Rory's one looks like he knows his job perfectly with way more skills and feelings than Thinupa but clearly didn't gave everything he had
I definitely agree. Rory’s editing was 10 times better, but the saying goes you get what you pay for.
You just surpassed Jared Polin in subscribers! Congrats on the incredible growth and thanks for the great content!
Awesome video. Can you please recommend some good gimbals for Android phones in a budget?😅
Please teach us about the editing also ,
And what software do you use to edit,
And of course the expensive one is better ...
Are you shooting with correct shutter speeds to the 180 degree rule of film making, when you use your phone? Only ask because I never see ND filters on your phone. cool vid
Thats a good point< hope Steve replys
Bonjour, merci pour cette vidéo pour les prises de vues et ensuite les montages . J’aurais une préférence sur le deuxième montage
Awesome! Just a doubt, to usual user do you recommend 4k30, 4k60 or 8k30? Tysm! 😊
I think the first video was better, but I understand the cinematic editing video was what they were looking for
Which mode do I use on my gimbal when I use extension rods for fake drone shot so that the gimbal motor doesn’t mess up while recording?
I use either ‘Pan Follow’ or ‘Lock’ mode for fake drone shots 👍
@@LearnOnlineVideo thank you so much for the quick response. you’re the most reliable person to learn everything I need to know about smartphone filmmaking. keep creating.
like the 2nd one , better than a movie shot
1st edit as was way more original and used all your footage types. Liked the train sounds also. Made it feel more realistic
Can you do a review of the hihem iSteady XR gimbal?
