Melba's on 114th and Fredrick Douglas has egg nog waffles. Please go there and try it
Another good place to visit is the Malcom Shabazz market on 116th St. They sell African imports.
Loved this episode. You and your friend Evan have great energy, you should do more collaborations with Evan as a guide, he is endearing and natural. When Evan hugged Head Chef Sister Robinson, I got choked up because it was reminiscent of how we were raised back in the day, hug Mom and Aunties, show them respect for preparing a wonderful meal.
S C
yes, yes, YES!!! Well said and so true S C!
I've never been to New York so I never knew harlem was a part of Manhattan.
Evan is a great guide! Awesome he is a Harlem native and like he made the point that if you’re from Harlem, you say you’re from Harlem, not Manhattan.
Yes, so true.
Amen
Okkkk
What if you're from Wash. Heights or Inwood?
I'm from N.Y.. now living in the D.R. . I lived 139st between 5th & Lenox. Walked thru Strivers Row almost every day. In the spring and early summer, the trees blossoming makes that street beautiful, and expensive.. 1- million and up for a huge townhouse. One of many beautiful streets in Harlem...N.Y.C.
Those townhouses were built by the Dutch.
I lived on 140th and seventh miss my city
Evan comes across as such a cool man & a good guide .
He really is.
@@HereBeBarr does he have a channel?
He may start one soon.
agreed
When in San Francisco Bay area, don't miss the chicken & waffles at "Brown Sugar Kitchen" in West Oakland. I discovered it by accident because I would ride past on my bike at 7 a.m. heading to work, and I was like "what's that?!" Turns out it's a destination. The waffle is a revelation.
New Yorker here. Been to Sylvia's, been to Melbas, been to Amy Ruths. Brown Sugar Kitchen is incredible. In. Cred. I. Ble.
Amy Ruth's my next stop in Harlem!
@2:12 “and now because of how things are changing here.,” my man trying to be PC and not say “gentrification”. Oh I miss Harlem. I gotta move back there!
I love how that dude got knowledge on where he’s from. That’s sum kids ain’t with nowadays.

I agree
I concur
Just left Harlem New York. We were there for about 4 days on vacation. I enjoyed every minute of it!
Amy Ruth's was so good!!!!
I'm from Hong Kong and I've been told many years ago that Harlem is dangerous to visit. I can't believe it's this beautiful. Definitely going there and trying those chicken and waffles on my next trip!
Awesome !!!
It's safer since the white man moved in!
Harlem has always been Beautiful always !! A lot of white people are just fascinated that black people have style ,and eat great in the neighborhood

Harlem will always be my home. No matter where I go in life. 💯
Heard great things about Amy Ruth’s - looks like we need to go!
That you do senor.
Thanks for taking me home! Lots of memories in this terrific video. From the first couple of frames standing on the 125th St. #1 train uptown side platform with where I grew up in the background (Manhattanville Houses) as the #1 train was my line, and the iconic 125th St. stop was my station.
I saw lots of familiar scenes and places. I’ve enjoyed Amy Ruth’s, I lived one block west of the GORGEOUS Strivers’ Row on 138th St. in a Brownstone from 1983-1987 before moving out of NYC thirty-two years ago, so it’s nice to see my old stomping grounds with you, your excellent guide Evan and the lovely #TeamAdriana. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, enjoyed it.
I like what Evan said, and I will visit Harlem next time in NYC.

PROUD TO BE AN HARLEM CITIZEN, BELLISIMO HISTORY, FOOD, CULTURE OF MY HARLEM NYC.
I haven't been to Harlem in 5 years, I love the atmosphere of the people.
Changed a lot. Not even funny. I didn't visit for two years and everything is different now. Think only a few spots are the same
dag!!!
Love the videos. Amy Ruth's looks awesome. I'm coming up to NYC from Kentucky for a week in May - we're staying in Brooklyn, right next to McCarren Park. I can't wait to experience the city as an adult and your videos are helping so much!
Staying in Harlem on our trip to NYC in June...would love to run into Evan! Thanks for your videos...they are a huge help! Great work..keep it up!
Love your videos I'm visiting New York in April going to check out a couple of places you featured on your channel
Thanks !
Very impressed with your channel! I'm going to have to catch up on your previous videos. Harlem is an area I haven't explored yet, so definitely will visit on my next trip!
Been Wondering about Soul food in NYC !!! Thanks 🙏🏾
Thanks Evan for the wonderful informational tour. I will definately be dining at Amy Ruth's. What awesome vibes and the food looks mouth watering. Grant's tomb is actually quite interesting, as his younger years were lived not too far from me in Galena, Il, (I'm from Chicago). The art and rich history of the area makes for a memorable day trip. Thanks for posting.
Mush respect for the itinerary. I’m moving up in August and because of your channel I have found endless opportunities to explore. Thanks man
dude. I freaking love you. just found this channel. im hooked bro! much love from dallas!
John you gotta hit up Jacob's on 129th and Lennox. I used to go there Friday night and enjoy the live band play the classics. The food alone is BANGIN! but with the live music, it takes it the stratosphere. Gotta make a part 2 with Evan.
This is in the works ;)
Keep up the great content! Next time I'm in nyc ill make sure to hit up Harlem
I really love jazz and its history, and even though the music was born in New Orleans, New York City has been the capitol of jazz for a century. Harlem especially. It’s absolutely essential to go there.
Best video on exploring Harlem that I've seen.👌🏽👍🏽🙌🏽😊
Very cool to see Evan's part of town. Grant's Tomb looks so interesting.
Hey! Great video agaim!!! I lived in Harlem for two years and it was excellent, watching the video I could remember the countless times I walked through all those streets, is a wonderfull neighborhood, and there are many more places to eat and have a few drinks like the famous Harlem Shakes or Harlem Tavern. I miss Harlem so much but my room was sooooo small and I had to move :(
I love New York!
Definitely I want to have this soul foods experience one day . Cheers from Brazil

Moving to Harlem because of I’ll be attending CCNY and I thought I wouldn’t have that much to do but now I do!
Evan seems like such a cool guy. I smiled for the whole video. What a treat to watch.
That's my new neighborhood! Literally.
Awaiting on word my apartment application was accepted....
There are GREAT places to eat and drink at in the area. Cheaper than UWS, Midtown and further downtown. Quieter too.
Already have been to Amy Ruth's and Red Rooster/Ginny's Supperclub (downstairs), so much to explore!
Just saw this video because I came to Harlem for some business, stopped by Amy Ruth's to try the chicken and Waffles! Amazing thanks for the recommendation.
Evan is great! Hope to see him more often in your future videos.
Thanks for tipping me off about this video. Grant's tomb looks really impressive. Not a long stop, but worth going

Hahahahha. I don't blame you.
Yes Amy Ruth's us the place. Been eating there everytime I visit NYC. 3 to 4 times a year. I lived around the corner in 116th and 7th in a Brownstone for 3 weeks.
Yes, i'm a big fan now.
Great video man, definitely gotta get some great soul food next time I stop in NYC!

O Just loved the AMY RUTH' S RESTAURANT ! Cheers from Brazil ! Thanks for sharing that with us !
Good video! I'm from Harlem born and raised; specifically Spanish Harlem but it has great history, good food, and good place to find the culture of the two.

Are you here already?
Lol
I was conceived across from Amy Ruth's. At which was once known as the "Kelly Hotel" from which I was also named. 🥰🥰🥰 I miss NY. Will be the next month.
Like that you started off on the 125th 1 train platform - so cool how it comes out for one stop
Hhahah yep.
Amy Ruth’s is my favorite restaurant and they are open almost 24 hours on the weekend I use to eat it all the time the Gabrielle Union aka smothered pork chops is my favorite
"Putting love in" her pancakes. That's what I remember learning about home cooking, when staying with a friend in College.
Nice video!! That food looked soooooo good!!
Evan is an excellent tour guide
Harlem is the best place to visit and tour and has a rich history of the people that build it and made it the best African American community in all of NYC and The United States! Love your video!

Schomburg is part of Puerto Rico’s, specifically Loíza’s, history. ♥️ Love this video and now that I move to NY I will definitely visit Harlem and that place for the chicken and waffles. 🥰

Awesome :)
@@HereBeBarr me and my girlfriend are first timers and your videos have been fantastic hope to see you around
Loved this! Thanks for busting myths and helping to combat racism and intolerance.
Great video! There's a spot just on the other side of the 1 train over by the Hudson river. I'll go eat at Dinosaur BBQ or Floridita restaurant on 125 & Riverside drive then go for a walk by the peir. Sometimes I'll take it to go and eat on the pier with an amazing view of Hudson river & George Washington bridge. Thst should be on your next Harlem video.
Harlem looks interesting. Hopefully be in NYC in October 20' Will have to make room for a trip up to Harlem
What a great tour with Mr. Evan!
Another homerun!!⚾️
Oh wait a minute, he forgot the Polo Grounds...😥
Looks like an awesome day!
This was cool. The bus I took to the airport went through Harlem, so I got a bit of a driving tour and liked what I saw!
Thanks I’m watching your video after the gym !

Great video - very interesting. Please also interview solo women and ask them if they feel safe walking in the various areas.
This is exactly what I was looking for
I just went to Harlem last week. Very cool was right there in front of Sylvia's , the hospital, and The Schomberg Center.
How Harlem has changed since the mid to late 70s. I love the art work and Striver's Row; and of course some real soul food. Great job Evan great video guys.
Thanks John
Allegedly Waffles is a original Belgian dish. Harlem was associated as an African-American neighborhood in 1904. Most of the African-American southern migrants who arrived, in order of size, during the Great Migration during the 1910s, 1920s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s were Virginians, South Carolinians, Georgians, North Carolinians, Floridians.
I probably liked this episode the most!
