Judith, since he was carrying 115 pounds less than Native Diver, you would expect him to win the race !!! What's surprising is that Native Diver had enough heart to increase his stride and stay competitive.
Oh, no doubt! expect him to be 'able' to win, but not to actually go there. And when Native Diver pushed, to see the 'riderless horse 'say', "No, I'm supposed to be in front" was just wonderful. I just really enjoyed how O'Hare(?) went right on about his job and clearly seemed to know the idea was to be first. LOL fun to watch him calmly and seemingly methodically work his way to the front all on his own. Unusual. You can see him seem to be a bit surprised and then decide to go on and get it done. Wonder where he went from there. Can you imagine horse races without jockeys? Fun funny. Thanks so much. I would love to have a clip of just this race to keep forever. @@jamiewilliams970 Winning being a major part of the game, preserving genes the other. These days there's got to be some sort of pre-race covering--at least a few mares--or cryogenic preservation of a valuable stallion's genetics. That is to say, as long as no horses are harmed in the process.
Nope… that isn’t how the Jockey Club works… genetics would be better if people bred for SOUND horses instead of catalog pages… not every stallion needs to be a sire… most make wonderful geldings…
So much for the myth of jockey 'strategy'.
