We use Petzl’s Ray 11 mm and Axis ropes. Static. They are compatible with Petzl’s ASAP lock mobile fall arrestor system (which we use daily). We also have used successfully PMI’s 11 mm static ropes, the Classic Hudson and Extreme Pro. Other 11 mm static ropes may work fine as well, but I recommend you test them for compatibility with the gear you are using first.
This is awesome video! Thank you!:). I’m trying to figure out the safest way to clean gutters and roofs. I really like your video throw rope over roof, but sometimes it is not possible. Sis you ever work with ridge pro or hip lock? Is it safe ish? Thank you!:)
You are so welcome. The safest way to clean gutters of course varies from house to house. Some variables include terrain, distance to the ground, pitch of the roof, roof material and design of the roof, location of your anchor point and the user’s ability to maintain a tight enough rope to eliminate any fall hazard over the edge. And … if you do go over the edge, where do you swing, what will you hit, and does your gear, rope and skill level give you enough tools to lower yourself safely to the ground? We design our gutter systems to minimize cleaning just to reduce the hazard, but so far I’ve only seen K-guard gutters totally eliminate the need to clean gutters. And, although awesome, they are not compatible with all roof systems and they are expensive. My team will not use the ridge pro, although thousands of folks use them. “Safe ish” is the enemy of safe. I have not heard of the hip lock. Basically, I want a system that will protect myself or my team in the event we just poked our hand on a big wasp nest and we totally panick, letting go of everything and begin swatting. I’ve seen my toughest guy do just that. We’ve had 3 falls by 3 different people in 20 years and each person was saved from hitting the ground because of proper fall protection and a tight rope.
I like how logical and detailed oriented you are…no drama. Thank you
Good to see you back on the roof! Love your gear and still using all those techniques!
I know you are helping some folks a lot wherever you are! Miss you around here. 😊
what kind of rope for what tasks? samson hyperstatic or something that is dynamic?
