Although being that he is 76 now with a very bad back making walking back and forth on a set both painful and difficult, plus he married his long time partner of 30 years 2 years ago, I doubt he will come back. I am not sure that dream is going to come true. The other day after 6 years Tracy comes back and says Luke died in a train crash. They didn’t have to kill him off he already left the show. The writers are horrible and they ruin characters. They are ruining Sonny now and killed off Jason. I wouldn’t be surprised if GH is cancelled after nearly 60 years. I’ve been watching for 40 years and it’s horrible now.
I remember my grandfather watching GH as a 12 yr old. Matter of fact, it was One Life To Live followed by GH. It got me hooked on soaps. Luke and Laura will always be the biggest soap legends of all time. But I'll also give a nod to Erica Kane and Victoria Lord. Hell, Vicky played like 8 different persona's of Vickie.
I remember waaay back in the beginning, Victoria Lord had a dual personality. One was the refined, respectable Victoria, the other was a street smart girl from the wrong side of the tracks. That split personality angle really intrigued me. It prepared me to watch "The Three Faces of Eve" starring Joanne Woodward. It was based on a true story about a woman with multiple personality disorder. Woodward was outstanding in the role, and got an Oscar for her stellar performance.

I miss him, but not much. They really, really ruined his character. He had more of a heart when he was doing all kinds of things when he was very bad in the 1980s. Many years later he would brag about never wanting children. He didn't even know how old his daughter was when she came back to town. He got on Lucky for taking care of other people's children. He was a terrible father and a horrible husband. He stole from Tracy all the time and cheated on her whenever he felt like it. Then it was reveled that he cheated on Laura with Holly. GH just trashed him. He was unpleasant to watch. GH really ruined his character.
Personally, I never saw what was so great about his character . I mean I watched the show but he just always gave off this vibe that alcoholic vibe especially in his older years. And he really didn’t bring much to the show in his later years. Just like the Sonny character.
Luke was never supposed to be the love interest of Laura. People who haven't followed their story from the beginning don't even know about the rape. It was glossed over because of ratings. TG brought a lot of excitement and charisma to GH, and Gloria Monty ran with it. This always disturbed TG, and GF greatly. Having to justify a love story built on rape was really outrageous. Victims rarely fall in love with their attackers. When the truth came out, and their kids found out about it, things began to unravel with LnL.
Yeah, GH really did a hatchet job on Luke's character. He went from a bad boy to a worse man. GH went through a very dark time as Luke basically self-destructs.
Sadly, the only one who DIDN'T want to ride off into the sunset with Laura was Luke. TG was adamant that L & L were NOT to stay together, nor ride off into the sunset. He had script approval rights, so he had a big influence on how his character would leave. Even Genie F. was surprised that he wanted her to appear in his last episode! His character did seem to shrivel up a bit near the end. His white hair and beard were age appropriate (he's 73 now) but most of the feisty wind had gone out of his sails, and he looked and acted like a sad elderly man. And his marriage to Tracey?! The writers obviously had lost their minds at that point. And he apparently had something to do with it.
In a way it still ended with LnL, his last word (letter) is to her, she is the last shot before he walks off, his disappears into the fog on the pier like she did, there is still that connection while knowing he needs to work on himself. I have spent all of quarantine watching the whole story of LnL & them individually. Which in part has made me a HUGE fan of them & both characters/actors. I hate what they did to Luke & LnL and hadn't really watched his last scene until now due to reading LnL fans were not happy with it. Watching it now & reading your thoughts on the whole thing puts it all into perspective! As you stated TG said Laura/LnL was his humanity and his girls (Laura, Ruby, Bobbie) kept him afloat and in line. As far as being a Dad when Laura almost died during Lulu's birth he did tell her after that he could not see himself being a parent without her, he wouldn't know how to do it. With all that I now get that is why the character seemed so lost & out there. I am glad they did not listen to TG to kill him off as they really have left it open ended for LnL to truly reunite should GF leave or the show ends.
Luke Spencer the heart and soul of General Hospital, it was Scorpio and there adventures that drew me too the show and then the whole Luke and Laura adventures. I loved watching the show and Frisco and Felicia my second favorite super couple kept me watching. After these two couples broke up it has never had great couples since. I returned in 2013 to watch Frisco try to win back Felicia and it was a wash very lousy, today it is a distant memory RIP to all of some of my favorite characters who have passed away, Jackie Z Sean R, and many more. I would love to see them do something with Frisco and Felicia because her and Mac Scorpio are flat no spark. these to back together would bring me back.

Never would have guessed he was gay or should I say bi since he has a 2 year love affair with Elizabeth Taylor whom he claims he was in love with. But now he is happily married for the last 2 years to the love of his life for the past 30 years. Him and his husband look very happy together. It's sad that for him to be successful in his career and his romantic storyline with Laura He had to keep this part of himself a secret for so long. However the fact that most of us didn't have a clue just goes to show what an outstanding actor he truly was...is.
Can't believe they'd let Sonny say goodbye in person and not Laura. Really? Even though they were "over" they had a heckofa run over the years, not to mention two kids together. I realize Luke and Laura divorced and remarried others by the time of TG'S departure. But they were the most popular and dominant couple on the show and in soap history. GF deserved to have some screen time with TG. Instead, he says good-bye to Sonny, then fades into the fog. I know TG was very tired of LnL, and perhaps that's why Laura didn't appear. He had script approval privileges, and used them to fend off GF. But I think the ending was extremely weak as a result.
There will never be another Luke and Laura love story (my opinion). However, Tony Geary did mention in an interview, after so many years, it was hard to maintain the romance level of LnL because of the 15 yr age gap. He said it was easier to play a miserable drunk old man.
They should really bring luke back for Bobbie Spencer’s tribute episode! Wi to luke and Carly being reunited! And wake up lulu and lucky back and Laura together! With flashbacks of luke and Bobbie

There has never been another couple on GH, as strong as Luke and Laura. From a long time devoted fan, since the beginning. Pairing Luke with Tracy, wasn’t enjoyable for me. It was constant yelling, and fighting not enjoyable at all. Laura paired with Stefan, yuk to say the least. Then Laura with Kevin, a very boring couple.
This is pathetic!! They went overboard in ruining his character. He came to Port Charles to help his sister. He went down wrong path with Frank Smith. Wanted out. Wanted to be respectful people someday, like the Webber's or Baldwin's, and not looked down upon. He and Bobby working hard to make a better life for themselves. We all could relate to this. Then bought clubs etc. Became business owner. He became town hero. Everyone liked him. He is not the same guy who was Major!! For sure! Who beat all the obstacles! Sorry, it's a pathetic, sad, and disturbing ending....MY REWRITE: Nikolas has everyone fooled. He is on the cliffs at Windermere. The dark prince is holding Luke Spencer by the throat. He calmly says, This is for my father, my mother and my uncle, and drops Luke from the highest ledge!! Then, Nikolas says, Sorry, Luke. I am a Cassadine!
Wow, that ending would really have been something! By the end of TG'S run, Luke's character was totally trashed. Laura loved him, but I'm sorry to admit, she was too good for him, at least in the beginning of LnL. I'm actually glad she married Kevin. As a mature woman, I think she's done with bad boys. Of course, there's the thing about his evil twin. But it seems there's always an evil twin lurking around in soap land. I. always liked Scotty, too. I thought they made a cute couple and he was still a decent guy. TG was 32 and GF was just 17 when LnL got rolling. The wide gap in their ages was always obvious, and it bothered me. Luke & Tracy had no chemistry & for you to suggest otherwise is laughable. Tracy is back in Port Charles w/o Luke. If Luke comes back he is not coming back with Tracy. TG said if he comes back the s/l has to exciting & dynamic & there is nothing dynamic about Luke & Tracy.

Sonny say goodbye in person and not Laura. Really? Even though they were "over" they had a heckofa run over the years, not to mention two kids together. Instead he passes on a letter thru Lulu, the only member to show up! Even Tracy wasn't there! Very, very disappointing, to say the least!

I realize Luke and Laura divorced and remarried others by the time of TG'S departure. But they were the most popular and dominant couple on the show and in soap history. GF deserved to have some screen time with TG. Instead, he says good-bye to Sonny, then fades into the fog. I know TG was very tired of LnL, and perhaps that's why Laura didn't appear. He had script approval privileges, and used them to fend off
GF. But I think the ending was extremely weak as a result.
I really believe Luke destroyed Laura’s life with his danger and bull shit then rides off into the sunset to work on himself that kinda pisses me off

There will never be another Luke and Laura love story (my opinion). However, Tony Geary did mention in an interview, after so many years, it was hard to maintain the romance level of LnL because of the 15 yr age gap. He said it was easier to play a miserable drunk old man.

There has never been another couple on GH, as strong as Luke and Laura. From a long time devoted fan, since the beginning. Pairing Luke with Tracy, wasn’t enjoyable for me. It was constant yelling, and fighting not enjoyable at all. Laura paired with Stefan, yuk to say the least. Then Laura with Kevin, a very boring couple.
This is pathetic!! They went overboard in ruining his character. He came to Port Charles to help his sister. He went down wrong path with Frank Smith. Wanted out. Wanted to be respectful people someday, like the Webber's or Baldwin's, and not looked down upon. He and Bobby working hard to make a better life for themselves. We all could relate to this. Then bought clubs etc. Became business owner. He became town hero. Everyone liked him. He is not the same guy who was Major!! For sure! Who beat all the obstacles! But later, he really didn't want marriage or fatherhood. What?!? Give me a break. Laura should have ran screaming, hell no from that alter and never looked back!! Or better yet, dumped his Sorry butt and go back to Scotty. I bet she felt she waisted a lot of years on a man who never knew what he wanted! Sorry, it's a pathetic, sad, and disturbing ending....MY REWRITE: Nikolas has everyone fooled. He is on the cliffs at Windermere. The dark prince is holding Luke Spencer by the throat. He calmly says, This is for my father, my mother and my uncle, and drops Luke from the highest ledge!! Then, Nikolas says, Sorry, Luke. I am a Cassadine!
Wow, that ending would really have been something! By the end of TG'S run, Luke's character was totally trashed. Laura loved him, but I'm sorry to admit, she was too good for him, at least in the beginning of LnL.

I. always liked Scotty, too. I thought they made a cute couple and he was still a decent guy. TG was 32 and GF was just 17 when LnL got rolling.

@Seth Vander Broek They opened the door for TG/Luke to come back to save Lulu from getting killed by Ryan, but TG wasn't interested. It's going to take a real dynamic storyline to bring TG back to the states from Amsterdam. We'll see.
@@eddiecater1429 I really don't think TG is coming back. I've seen film footage of him walking and boating around Amsterdam. He really loves it there. I think he's done with Luke. After almost 40 years, can anyone blame him?
General Hospital will not be or is the same since anthony geary left. The acting is not the same as it use to be back in those days....I really don't feel genie it the actress she use to be when she was acting across from anthony geary. just can't watch anymore of gh and watch the actors remind me how old i am also getting. I really don't want a fact touch up as i have noticed with the older women on gh including genie. they puffed out wrong places. miss the old days at times...

Luke & Tracy had no chemistry & for you to suggest otherwise is laughable. Tracy is back in Port Charles w/o Luke. If Luke comes back he is not coming back with Tracy. TG said if he comes back the s/l has to exciting & dynamic & there is nothing dynamic about Luke & Tracy.
Frankly, I didn't really like him with Laura, either. He was 31, she was just 16 when they first met. And Tracey?! Come on! Oh well, it's just a soap...
