  • Well collectors, here we are again... with an array of artifacts ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime!
    BOILERPLA... ER, GENERAL INFO:
    I'd like to thank each and every one of you who take the time to watch DtC, and am very grateful to everyone who takes even more time out of their day to comment. In a perfect world Tom or Ob would be able to engage with everyone in the comment section, but alas the world is far from perfect. Tom doesn't know how (and refuses to learn) and Ob is a major Luddite paralyzed by techno-fear.. He's convinced his phone is spying on him.
    FAQ & A:
    Q: I have a burning question about something in the video! What should I do?!
    A: An email sent directly to Tom is the best way to get your question answered, because while he most definitely reads each and every one of your comments, he hasn't quite gotten the hang of replying to them in the comment section, and is not likely to in the foreseeable future. Or ever. Seriously, he still calls RUclips "the U-TOOBZ". Just email him, srsly.
    Tom's personal email is: herrwittmann@gmail.com
    You can also call him if you prefer (856-866-8733) between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM, EST. This may be slightly more difficult because he's forever running around away from his desk, but it's worth a shot.
    Q: I have an amusing anecdote, scathing criticism, or heartfelt compliment that I deeply need to express and I require / demand / long for a personalized response! What should I do?
    A: See "A" above.
    Again, Tom's email is: herrwittmann@gmail.com

    Tripartite Pact signed in Berlin, September 27, 1940 between Germany, Italy and Japan. I remember seeing fake SS daggers like those in the video being sold by Collectors Armory back in the 1970s. Never had but one dagger in my collection, an SA by Julius Ohliger. I'm basically a helmet and belt buckle collector. Enjoy those cigars. Punch is my go to stick. Enjoyed the video.

    Tom & Ob. You guys crack me up. You two are definitely blade guys. It looks Italian. Do you think this holster and belt go together? Belt looks new? They are the genuine authentic reproductions of Major General George S. Patton Jr.'s gun belt and holster that carried his Colt .45 Peacemaker w/ivory grips and other pistols all through
    combat tours during WW 2. It may seem strange that he hid all those items in a U-Haul box in a storage facility
    in Melbourne Fl with those junk daggers. Those boxes can be a surprise! Tom, Punch and De Nobili are my favorites also. Wild Turkey 101 is the bourbon or Booker's 127. Ob you have to do the cigar route while working with your Dad. Wouldn't miss your show for anything, Guys!

    Hello Team Wittmann! This episode was a bubble wrap extravaganza! I would imagine that Tripartite Pact tray is rare indeed. The UHaul box was ten pounds of fertilizer in a five-pound bag. Thank you for having me as a guest in the Cellar this week!

    That tray has way too many conflicting markings. And the Germans didn’t do Franklin Mint type commemorative plates. Hallmarks of an Eastern European fake.

      I agree… Looking at the Hitler monogram close-up with the video paused, some of the details look a bit sloppy to my eye…and given there were like four different markings total between both sides of the top, that seems a bit too much to be legit IMO.

    It is good to learn about the fakes. As we speak there is a fake blade for one of those daggers with gilded engraving up for sale on ETSY. Which probably means it'll end up on the collector market eventually. Folks need to watch out for em' for sure.

    • @victorstrozier929
      @victorstrozier929 26 дней назад

      I don't think it's the dealers driving the prices up, it is the retail market. Simple supply and demand economics. There are folks out there with very deep pockets and willing to pay crazy money for nice stuff. It's whatever the market will bare.

    The Tripartite Pact, also known as the Berlin Pact, was an agreement between Germany, Italy, and Japan signed in Berlin on 27 September 1940 by, respectively, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Galeazzo Ciano, and Saburō Kurusu (Japan) in the presence of Adolf Hitler.

    Also like to say, viewers should be happy n grateful for the free videos you show. Both of you are the ones who do all the work and put in the effort and time to release your great time consuming work. So you viewers that make poor pathetic comments, need to wind your neck in and appreciate what you get for free. Amazing work both of you do. All the best from Phillip Colley in the UK

    Another great video from Mr Whitman and Rob. You don't have to explain yourself about what you wear during the show. It wouldn't be a problem if you did smoke weed. The truth is in the way you described it, as a smoker would never talk or try to explain it the way you did. If viewers have got a problem with how you dress, then they should not bother watching the brilliant presentation the both of you do. Keep up the amazing stuff you show us. All the best from Phillip Colley in the UK.

    Tray commemorated the official signing of the Tri-Party Pact on September 27, 1940 in Berlin. Delegates from Italy and Japan were on hand in Berlin for the official signing. Present were Hitler and Mussolini although I am not sure if Tojo himself was there to represent Japan.
    I presume the tray was utilized during the celebratory dinner held in the Reich Chancellery after the signing.
    You are correct, that is a very valuable historical piece!

    • @Engineer1897
      @Engineer1897 29 дней назад +1

      Most likely, and I'm pretty sure about this, that it was General Oshima signing the Pact on behalf of Japan. I think Oshima had been sent to Berlin as early as 1934 as military attache. To my knowledge, Tojo himself never visited Germany.

    • @jeffg6008
      @jeffg6008 29 дней назад +1

      @@Engineer1897 Thanks. I couldn’t figure it out. Of course Hitler and a Mussolini were there as figureheads. I would assume that von Ribbentrop, Oshima, and the Italian FM did the actual signings of the Agreement.
      In any event, that Commemorative Tray was very cool and, I’m assuming, very rare! Possibly a one of one? The AH engraving almost certainly points to Reich Chancellory silver dinner wear. But the Argentine maker mark??
      I’d love to know the back story of how and where it was found. When Tom opened that package up I about fell off my chair.

    • @Engineer1897
      @Engineer1897 28 дней назад +2

      @@jeffg6008 I've been researching a little bit further. Saburo Kurusu signed for the Japanese. He was probably the Ambassador, as Oshima was the military attache. Sometimes it's the details, often it's the elusive details and the searching and rediscovering that make History so fascinating. Happy collecting.

      @@Engineer1897 You as well 👍
      Obviously you have a deep desire to dig down on these things - as do I. My career was in business but reading history was a favorite pastime. Specifically (over time) WWII Eastern Front. I always teased my wife and children for reading novels when they could read non-fiction just as fascinating- and learn something at the same time!
      It’s a shame how history is all but lost on our younger generation. Even general 20th Century History. I cringe every time they do those college campus interviews asking such difficult questions like “who fought on the Allied or Axis sides in WWII.” Or “who did the US fight against.” I would laugh if I wasn’t crying.
      Thank you for sharing your research!
      Peace ☮️ my friend

    The tray feels like a fake. Notice how the majority of the scratches on the tray's surface are not on top of the engraved surfaces. That means the engraved areas were added on top of an already scratched up tray. You could argue that the engraving was added later to commemorate where it originated, but the "A.H." monogram would only be on his personal service ware (from the manufacturer) and this looks like it was added later, OVER and already scratched up tray. If it also featured a Mussolini monogram, as well as Tojo's, Hirohitor, or even the royal chrysanthemum, maybe, but the addition of just AH after the fact suggests intentional deception. Just doesn't feel right.

    • @WittmannAntiqueMilitaria
      @WittmannAntiqueMilitaria  23 дня назад +2

      When I first handled it after the video I noticed scratches under the engraving; not a good sign. It also seems very awkward and slapped together in terms of how the engravings are positioned. Big thumbs down.👎

    • @thepaulhenderson
      @thepaulhenderson 23 дня назад

      @@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria Also, why two engravings of the same date? It just doesn't make any kind of sense except perhaps to cover more of an already scratched-up tray, or attempt to give the added engraving visual symmetry? It just smacks of someone trying to help us help it make sense.
