You never cease to amaze me, buddy. One minute you're making something the size of a large wall, and the next you making something as delicate as Kumiko.
Beside the fact you’re a phenomenal woodworker, you’re definitely one of the best narrators in the business too. Extremely easy to listen to and very articulate. Keep up the great work, Mike.
Out of everyone on RUclips, I look forward to your videos the most! I learn something new every time I watch them. You truly are inspirational and your content and deliver is second to none. Keep up the great work!
I am fascinated by these beautiful patterns but I am even more fascinated by your way of showing how to make them. Your calm way of explaining and the pictures you chose to show are captivating. Thank you for sharing this video!
Mike, a rare and well-deserved honor to grace the pages of Fine Woodworking. Like you, I've been a subscriber for many years, and credit the publishers for a steady improvement in my skills. Best wishes on the baby. Regards, Dave
Thank you very much Dave, hope you're doing well. I credit Fine Woodworking for much of my progress as a woodworker. For example, I would have never heard about kumiko were it not for Fine Woodworking.
As soon as you said Pink Floyd, division bell popped into my head. By far one of my most favorite when it comes to the perfect background music to anything that requires cool attention to detail if that makes sense. Very nice project Mike and congratulations on the article and the new addition to the family.
After seeing the kumiko lamp video in my recommendations for a few weeks I finally watched it just this morning, so good timing putting this out today!
This by far is one of the best, and most intricate woodworking videos I've seen. It would be an exercise in patience for sure. Btw, showing clips of you and your son was great. Thats something else that the world needs to exercise more of :)
Just got my FW in Saturday's mail. Well done. Nice article. Really great seeing you spending time with your son. Those are days you will never get back, revel in them.
That's fantastic being a feature in FWW! Next stop your own show on PBS. With your awesome detail of instruction and added humor it would be an excellent program.
Thanks for learning, thinking and sharing. I hope others find inspiration not just from the creativity in your videos, but also from the simple act of learning and sharing that you continuously pursue. Happy to hear you're bringing more awesome people into the world!
Several quick points; A. Congrats on your soon-to-be new vice shop assistant B. More congrats on getting published C. Your skill is unreal. The patience required for those tiny pieces with intricate angles... D. I’ve found myself listening to PF’s Animals album multiple times lately. Their best stuff!
Wow, it's a joy watching your Kumiko work, Mike. To me, Kumiko has this meditational feel to it. I don't mind the repetitive aspects of it, it serves to keeping me on my toes, this being fiddly work requiring a high degree of accuracy. Love your channel, keep it up and rock on.
Paint a "portal mural" in your shop that I may roller skate into and find you working. Amazing work as always Mike. Something about your music choice, commentary and 80s trivia adds to the quirky nature of your show!
I am making a run to sherwin williams in the morning for more ceiling paint. I will ask if they sell portal paint at that location or if I need to head over to their commercial coatings store for that. To describe my channel as quirky is, in my opinion a high compliment. Thank you.
@@jimw544 Thank you Jim. There was a little in the article about the jigs, mostly just dimensions, but yes, I have more on my channel. Give it a shot, I think you'll like it.

I know i always say it - but your work on this is incredible - beautiful work - so satisfying when you dropped the freshly papered panel into the frames!! thanks for sharing Mike!
Hey Mike. Found this video after stumbling across a picture of a kumiko lantern which I fell in love with. Didnt even know this genre of wood working existed... Anyways, I made a sled and followed your method and I now have four 36" x 16" panels made up that fit without a hitch. Haven't started the infill yet, but am excited to learn that as well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
That is really neat to hear. I put out the video and article, I know a few people watch and read, but I wonder how many apply the method. I'm so happy to hear it has worked for you. I would really like to see what you come up with. If you can email me via my website.
@@MikeFarrington I have a busy few weeks at work, and so the project is going to languish here for a bit. I will definitely send you an email once I get some of the infill started. Again, thanks for the video and talk to you soon.
This was the best and most informative video on Kumiko I have ever seen! You explain your process so very clearly and it is very pleasing to watch you coming along with your work! Please keep on making such great videos so that more people understand the beauty, but also the complexity and difficulty of fine woodworking! Looking forward to new videos from you !

Literally thought of you today as "I haven't seen anything from Mike lately." So happy that is no longer the case. I hope to try Kumiko one day. Great build, congrats on the article.
