Outstanding job ! The military poncho with two long sticks also makes a great improvised stretcher. I plan to try it out as a field expedient cot. I think just supporting the cot on two large notched logs would be OK for Eastern Woodlands. Not as high, but plenty stable. Thanks for the info.
Wow! I googled how to learn to tie specialty knots to transport something safely and securely and stumbled across your channel. I am just amazed and humbled by your abilities. I've been watching your videos for the past three nights and I've learned so much! I never would had the opportunity to learn these things nor would I thought about it and now I'm gobbling it all up. Thank you for sharing!
Your videos are always educational and to the point. I like the fact that you make close ups of detail with your camera so the viewer can see what he or she needs to without guessing. Always thumbs up to your fine skills. Thank you for sharing. :)
Excellent job. your explanations are direct, simple and accurate. Your video is clear and does a great job of showing how it works. Just subbed. Nice channel!
This is such an excellent design. You can imagine an entire Roman legion using this method. Its got your bed, shelter and storage in a nice little footprint. ;)
I have slept on many of thease and aside from a hammock this is where its at when camping or on an FTX mission!!!! Another great video man! Keek um comin
Awesome! I like the trestle-style bed frame too, but it needs a ridge line. I like the rope saving, high tech 'ridge stick' you used here with the tripod bed. Perfect. Those look like great mushroom woods, btw.. Enjoy them!
Good day corporal.what you have shown here on your channel in making jungle bed is of great help not only for military but for civilians and all walks of life In times emergency situations and natural calamities esp. like our country Philippines were prone to natural disasters.i salute you for good works and useful knowledge's.
Was in the scouts for four years and this guy just taught me how to make two knots that the scouts should have taught me....(going out and tying these knots on everyone and everything now)
tbh those knots and lashes are all in the Scout handbook bro. If not there, then definitely in the Pioneering merit badge workbook. It really depends on the Troop you’re in as to the quality of outdoor education you receive. My sons and all the other Scouts in our Troop can tie these knots and build these shelters. They always want to improvise shelters when we camp. It’s like pulling teeth to get them to pop tents in a line at the campsite... they’re always off in the woods tying ridgelines and rigging tarps.
This will beat the hammock, my old butt didn't sleep well in the hammock I felt all bunched up, the tripods, with pancho or trash bags is going to be good this coming week, sure have used many of your Idea's but after all you got me started on these solo bushcrafts, living it.
I was hoping you would make a video like this. I was not sure where or how I would sleep at night, So I came back home and searched for this video. Thanks for sharing. I will be moving out again right after I clean up...
Yea it is good to help keep you away from the insects. I remember just shinning a torch on the ground and was shocked how many huge spiders were crawling all over the ground. It is not always like that but is a horrible thought of having them crawl over me if I'm on the ground
Congrats on your b-day! Happy wishes and play some of X's favorite tunes as I am 58 now and have learned that it's great to have your wife on activated status in your vids. Love the show, the show must go on.
Genial, realmente genial... . COMBINA abrigo, rede, segurança, conforto ... !!! . A melhor combinação q já vi... . . ÓTIMA postagem, recomendo este mateiro... !!! .
Your videos are truly outstanding! Now that I found your channel, I can’t wait to get out with my kids and try so many of these things! Thank you for taking the time!
Nice to re-visit this video. Happy New Year 2022, Corporal Kelly!!! A great channel you have created! Thank you for sharing your skills. All the best!!
This shure beats a hammock for setting up a semi permanent camp site. Nothing like a flat cot for stretching out on off the ground. I just discovered the Sea to summit bug net coat and pants. That takes up no space and is solid.
How much weight would you say the poncho can support without tearing out the snaps or grommets? It looks like it didn't have any problems supporting your weight. Just wondering.
It's OK as an idea . . . . but labor and material intensive. You're doing this for a basecamp that will last you for a while . . . . not backpacking the AT. But, it is possible to build modifications of this that you could adapt for backpacking. One shortcut would be to just lay the two side poles over a horizontal log at each end. This is one of those things you train yourself to do as you hike, like . . . . "there's a pole, there's another pole, there's some firewood . . . . hmm . . . . nice place to stop for the night." So you build the bed where the resources are . . . . not just pick a spot to stop for the night and THEN try to figure out where the wood will come from. You can also splint piece of wood together to make the long pole. As always, the Corporal does an awesome job of explaining and demonstrating. Well done Marine!
you rock. I love your videos thank you for sharing your knowledge it's very handy and I have used a lot of the information in real life situations thanks
If you are going to be in the jungle with that setup I'm assuming it is going to be hot and humid and the airflow going underneath and around it would be quite welcomed. It would also keep the creepy crawlies away from you by not having anything underneath it. Tarp would be great for protecting you from rain or other weather conditions that happen in nature

And another good thing about having the Head hole in the center, is you don't have to get out of bed at night for the 0300 nature call.
Rainy weekend in the mountains, perfect.... off to build a jungle bed! Thanks Corporal
Sweet. Good luck and thanks for watching
