It has been my privilege to have seen Beegie many times performing in Nashville with her fabulous bass player. Most her recordings do not display her ability to play down and dirty improvisational jazz. She played what her producer thought would sell the best. I too am a jazz pianist and only dream that I might play like her. I refer to her using the Evil NYT's jazz critic John S. Wilson's 1958 description of Errol Garner upon hearing his all time great album CONCERT BY THE SEA. He wrote " Garner plays as if he has an orchestra in his lap." She does as well! Requiescat-in-pace!
