    Beautiful adeniums! I should get one. I used to have one but rotted the bulb from the roots by overwatering during winter time... I didn't know you can raise them up with roots above the soil. Great info...

    • @Uneedmoremeds
      @Uneedmoremeds  6 лет назад

      I am sorry you lost an adenium due to over watering. It looks like I had the same issue with 2 of mine. Also yes, you can raise the bulb and the small lil roots I will slice off at times for aesthetic reasons. I didn't do that at this time since I raised them quite a bit. Hi Ruthie! I'm both a liker and subscriber from Lake Charles, LA. I now have a total of 5 Adeniems, 3 of them branched that I bought from a vendor off of Etsy. They're around 5-7" tall and I've got them all in small (approx. 5" diameter) terra cotta pots. Here in Lake Charles it's Oct. 9, 2020 and it typically doesn't get very cold in winter, however we do get a handful (3 or4) light freezes between 28 and 32 degrees, at which time I'll just scoot them inside to a heated room adjacent to my patio. Your channel along with a few more have been very helpful to me in my first venture in raising these sometimes temperamental plants. Best of luck with yours and sorry for your loss. Despite all the prior knowledge we have and precautions we take, a casualty will happen. 🪴

    I love adeniums so much!!! Yours look so beautiful...
    I finally got one on my birthday in November (they are super hard to find and really expensive too), but when I brought it home, it shed all of its leaves and I thought it was gone. I kept on watering it though, and it now has a few leaves, so I'm hoping for a full recovery once the weather finally decides to get his act together!!
    Very useful tips, thank you!!

    • @Uneedmoremeds
      @Uneedmoremeds  5 лет назад +1

      How often are you watering your desert rose? They do lose their leaves and grow them back and love fast draining soil. They also go dormant and you shouldnt water much at that time. Good luck with your desert rose 😊👍❤.

      Do not feel sad Ruthie, you did what you could. These things happen, they are exotic and out of their natural habitat... do not take it as failure, rather thing on the bright side, you are beeing successful with all the others and they are so beautiful.
      When I loose a plant I put it in the compost (except if she had anything contagious) and the thought that she is getting back to nature and that her death is not entirely waisted kind of comforts me. Take care Ruthie😄😍

      @@FernandaNascimentoOrchids Wow Fernanda your words were very comforting and wise. I don't compost and should probably learn to do that. @@Uneedmoremeds
      Composting is very interesting, we can make soil from our kitchen vegetable peals and garden stuff. It can take many months for insect and worms do the recycling job. All you need is a secluded spot, with some sun to put a container with lid but without the bottom or with holes on the bottom and placed directly on soil to attact the recyclers. But to start with you a smaller amount, you can throw old leaves, rot succulents and other small stuff under the edge or under a bush which is what I do very often, throw them under my rosemary where I just noticed another toad living, a yellow one, lol.
