You cannot address police "targeting" certain demographics without showing the crime stats in said demographics. You simply cannot have the same patrol intensity across the entire population without sacrificing the lives of those living in the most violent areas. With more intense patrolling you'll get more interactions and with more interactions there will be a greater amount of violent interaction, even if the percentage of such interactions is lower.
I understand it's easier to point a finger at a government body like the police and it certainly won't get you cancelled.

Commission rates of a demographic "matter." Otherwise the single greatest victim group of the justice system would be human males. Males are the vast majority of people in prison, of people shot by cops. Do we say tat unless 50% of people arrested are women, there is a bias? No. Men commit more crime. Per violent felony committed no demographic cohort is shot less by police than African American males. Per murder of police by suspect, no cohort is shot less by police per capita than African American males.

The amount of policing in those areas also determines the amount of crime that is detected. It is a fact that police activity drastically increases when a community is majority black. More police activity , more crime detected. Whether or not addressing that discrepancy in police activity will account for apparent higher crime rates in majority black communities is something i am unsure of. Regardless, it is important to consider the impact that over-policing/disproportionate police activity has on the amount of crime that is detected.

I'd love to go on ride alongs all the time because I would just turn it into civil rights/constitutional rights class.
Cops need to start having continuing education classes like most professionals attend annually. The profession of policing needs to learn how to read the room while controlling their emotions and feelings. Learn "getting a call for service" doesn't mean that thing actually happened and you have arrest authority as soon as you get out of the car. So so many issues would instantly go away if cops would do these simple things.

One very real problem in our current society is the widespread demonization of the job of police officer. Quality people are not inclined to go into that job. I think it would be helpful for activists to know real data. This lecture broke down the list of people killed by police between armed and not armed. He SHOULD have broken it down between justified and not justified.
He convinced a bunch of kids that "unarmed" means not justified - and it does not mean that at all. More people are murdered using hands or feet as their weapon, than are murdered using a rifle of any kind (and that includes all the scary black ones everyone fears). At 7:50 I think you would also need to track the number of police killed in the line of duty. Is that number going up or down with the implementation of new policies. You need to account for the cost, if any, that is paid for the policies put in place to reduce deaths of civilians.

We need to be careful how we talk about topics and what should be done-as of 2023, with people saying we should abolish the police instead of an actual conversation on real change and improvement, police being ambushed and killed has increased dramatically. And the police in general don't feel supported and either quit or give up causing a new set of problems. We need to do better at working together and stop blaming someone else...check the blame and hate at the door and open up a real conversation.

I’d rather have the police involved pew pews than the rampant violence, looting, “mostly peaceful protests.”
    Stop fighting the police.
Statistics show if you comply with the reasonable demands of the officer, keep a level head and cause no issues for the officer. You get to live.
Kinda like if you don’t start stuff with an armed individual regardless of the location.
Such as, if you’re getting robbed/mugged, comply with the demands and you’re odds of getting shot go down by 99%.
There will always be variables but accountability for your actions should always take place.

A couple of problems I saw in this interesting and thought provoking lecture: The professor stated that "BECAUSE" black people protested, black deaths by police were down. A very, very unscientific assumption. First, you just finished showing that deaths by cops had been falling for years, so that must be considered. Second, it may be because cops let violent criminals (mainly black) go instead of engaging them and ending up on trial and being publicly paraded as a killer before a trial is even held. Additionally, people so often use percent of population to show bias. What is the percentage of any particular group which behaves in a criminal manor? How much violent crime exists in "White" slums? How much violent crime exists in "Black" slums? What is the pervasive attitude towards cops in the "white" population? In the "Black" population? The more we de-fund or, heaven forbid, push for abolishing the police, the like prison life society becomes.

We looked at murder rates from both weapons over a five-year period.
There were 34 firearm homicides in the US per million of population in 2016, compared with 0.48 shooting-related murders in the UK.
Knife murders are also higher stateside: there were 4.96 homicides “due to knives or cutting instruments” in the US for every million of population in 2016.
In Britain there were 3.26 homicides involving a sharp instrument per million people in the year from April 2016 to March 2017.

The BLM movement even went as far as protecting a violent drug addict and criminal that was resisting arrest, going as far as committing criminal acts of arson, looting, rioting, private and public property destruction and criminal assault, all the way up to and including murder.

Criminals are more likely to encounter the police, which impacts mainly black people. Compare the crime stats to police brutality. Show the stats on non compliance by race and see how that looks for the black community compares to the white community. You would quickly see black privilege become apparent

Sam if you dig in deeper into the numbers of the unarmed black people shit and killed by police you understand why it is disproportional....Most were involved in several other crimes, most were violent offenders with previous records, and most were currently dmendangering the lives of police or others or were resisting all other methods including Tasers. The tasers are another hilarious issue as well if you look into the statistics of tasers being deployed. There is not a racial disparity but if you look at the stats of effective tasers on persons. Black and brown people are half as likely for the taser to work on them. Are the tasers bias toward them lol? Could it be a cultural aspect, such as amount of clothing worn, or oily skin? Should be studied.

Why would these stats be segregated by race rather than criminal or felonious behavior. If you want to look at the stats sociologically, I think collecting the stats by income level or whether the shooting occurs in a city or rural area would be more useful than assuming 100% racism 100% of the time. We know there is racist behavior, but I believe that it represents a tiny percentage of the disparity of shootings by race, and a far larger cause of the disparity is caused by criminal behavior, and quite frankly, the attitude of the perp. From what I have seen, in nearly identical police encounters, blacks tend to resist police far more often than other races do. I would suggest that it is likely that this is a major cause of the disparity which can be addressed and remediated through education - not of the cops, but of the perps.
