LUKEY BOIIII! For those who don’t know , you have arrived at one of the best persons for anything synth! I’ve been keeping my ears on this dude for quite some time and it never ceases to amaze me how musical, how beautiful and great of an experience his work is. You’re a blessing to all of us brother ! Thank you
I truly hear multi timbral tones even though this keyboard doesn’t possess this capability. Tom is a genius for sure. Thank you Dave Smith for sharing your spotlight and recognizing a true industry giant.
Wonderful vid, bud- thanks for sharing! For the time being I have to settle for listening to the OB-6's glorious voice on vids like this lovely one. So this is a great service you're providing to those of us who still haven't gotten our hands on this glorious instrument! Can't wait to get my own *sigh* :D
Luke makes some great patches, I bought all 4 of his Rev2 soundsets and they really kept me from selling the thing 👍 So yeah back in the 80’s I gigged with an OBXa sitting on top of a DynoMy Rhodes, that gear regrettably was all sold off long ago, so now I’m rebuilding my analog synth collection. I think the thing keeping me away from the OB-6 right now is it’s only 6 voices without the ability to layer patches like the OBXa, and also it only being 4 octaves vs the OBXa’s 5 octaves. The OB-6 is a gold sounding synth no doubt .. but I just can’t justify the price tag for what it is. So I’m waiting for the Behringer UBXa clone, if that never ends up never materializing then keep an eye out for my OB-6 Soundset orders Luke 😉
I know exactly what you mean, Uberphat- I just can't believe it took this long to discover which synth was responsible for basically my whole taste in synth voices, lol! This synth is the sound of my life. :)
Man, these are incredible sounds. I keep coming back to this video and your prophet 6 vintage/classic vid. Can you help me out? I can't decide between the two. I have no other analog poly. The OB6 does have an edge for me in terms of pure preference but everyone seems to acknowledge the wider application of the prophet. And I LOVE the brassy tones of the prophet. The other thing I'm trying to keep in mind is Behringer's supposed OBXA clone that's "on the way". What do you think?
Andrew Thacker if you can only choose one between the P6 and OB6 I’d recommend the P6. It’s a bit more versatile and has a lovely liquid like, gooey warmth that the OB6 doesn’t quite have in the same way. The OB6 however has a more vibrant sound with a fizzier top end and more punch. You can’t go wrong with either to do honest.
@@lukeneptune3820 Thank you for your reply! Gooey is a good descriptor, haha. And I really like that quality. - Yeah, I definitely don't think I'd regret going with either but I'll PROBABLY go with the Prophet 6. Still deliberating! Anyway, thanks for your comment! Just found your channel and have really been enjoying the uploads!
Great presets, but Why did you make the video in Black and White, you don't like the color of the OB6 and all those beautiful synths that you have there?
Great demo, thank you! I am interested in buying an OB6, however like a few people I guess, trying to decide between OB6 and Prophet 6. I own a Jupiter 6 and have a Europa kit ready to install, when I get around to it. I considered selling the Jupiter 6 and getting both Prophet 6 and OB6, however think I would regret that decision later. I played around with a Prophet 6 in the shop and got lost in time, never had the opportunity to get hands on and hear an OB6. Any thoughts appreciated
With a Prophet 6 and OB6 you have so much ground covered. The Prophet 6 in particular has such a broad sound palate. If you've not seen this P6 demo of mine check it out. You'll hear it shape shift to sound like a few different classic poly synth from yesteryear ruclips.net/video/RR8xhuD3aIM/видео.html
Cheers Luke, it seems Dave Smith (& Tom)created two modern day classics! Played around with the Jupiter 6 again last night and love it too much to sell, so will decide between OB6 and Prophet 6 once I have played both side by side :)
Probably nothing, however I just can't part with or replace the Jupiter 6. There is a certain magic about the sound if you're prepared to spend time experimenting. I would say that buying an OB6 or Prophet 6 would be a smart move, I just won't sell my Jupiter 6. The Chemical Brothers still use one in their live set up! :)
Thanks James, and - wow! - the fact that the Chemical Brothers still use one on stage is a real testament to it's sound. I will have to check out some RUclips vids with the Jupiter 6, so I can get a sense of that 'magic' you talked about. I know that some samples of the Jupiter 8 on YT that I heard sounded pretty special, however I have read comments that suggest the Jupiter 4 has more in common with the Jupiter 8's sound than the Jupiter 6. Two quick follow-up questions for you: What is the cost of the Europa kit? Is it an easy upgrade to install? p.s. Since I am fortunate to own an Prophet 6 & an OB-6, I guess getting hold of a Jupiter 6 would mean have one to many "6"s, unless I was really into death metal, right? lol
Is it still your favorite compared to the P6? Interested seeing whether you'll be getting the new REV2 (at least for a similar high quality/enjoyable demo? :D)
gosh, what a synth! do you like the ob or the p6 best? edit: i just read your answer below, have you ever tried a prophet8? is it too big a gap in quality in regards of thr p6?
The Prophet 8 is great which it's extra modulation possibilities and voices but i much prefer the basic tone of the P6 and OB6. If i was going to get myself a Prophet 8 i'd get the new Rev 2 version without a doubt. That's a beast of a synth.
The OB-6 is fizzier / has a sharper high end created by its SEM filter. The OB-6 module is more expensive than the Prophet 6, so if a couple hundred dollars makes a difference, then get the Prophet 6. Also if you don't like the fizzy aspect of the OB-6 sound, get the Prophet 6. If not, get the OB-6. It tends to have a greater emotional impact on people in my experience.
SeeingColor 101% agreed. The Prophet 6 is amazing, but when it comes to the 'soul' of a synth, the extra amount of analog vividness of the OB-6 rules. It sounds less perfect, and this makes it so perfect (cp. tonewheel organs). However, the dog (8:30) doesn't seem to like it. :D
Hey man I'm going crazy over here debating wether as to get the OB6 or a Juno 60. Juno sounds sooo freaking creamy but the age thing worries me.. what are your thoughts on the 2?
The OB-6 destroys the Juno 60. It's so much more deeper sounding that it makes the Juno sound 2D in comparison. Don't get me wrong i love my Juno 60 but the OB-6 is in another league.
This synth sounds really, hate to say it...basic. Perhaps it's the sound-designer/knob-twiddler, but maybe I'm expecting more. On the fence with this one...
Harsh, fizzy, flat, grating. That is the OB-6. Meanwhile the Prophet 6 is a fookin' sonic masterpiece, rich, deep, warm, punchy and tons more range of sounds without that ever present OB-6 harsh fizz. If i was going for these sounds I'd just use some cheap vintage synths (or even software), simple synths. But there's no replacing the Prophet 6 which sounds and reacts like a propher VCO synth... like a prophet 5 but with more features. I'm not impressed by a few sexy tones on the ob-6 when the whole synth has a character that is ALWAYS there and always grating (that stupid 2 pole only filter with too much high end grit)

The sweet sound of buttery and dripping wet analog synth sounds.... So good!

I have a prophet 6 and I keep telling myself I don't need this synth, but I keep coming back to it
You probably don't, let me have it until i don't need it anymore too.
Superb Luke! Well done mate. Great Rev 2 soundbanks from you as well!
Your patches sound great! These are some of the nicest sounds I've heard coming from the OB-6 so far.
gorgeous demo
Cheers Kyle :)
I love this machine and one day I will justify buying one
Very nice brass synth at 5:40 and hard synth at 8:46
!
Nice work! What sweet sounds you brought out of this amazing synth.
Cheers Jaris :)
Simply wonderful. OB 6 is a BEAST. Great playing. Great post. Buy one or regret it forever.
By far.. the best demo I've seen. Thumbs Up!
Awesome programming of patches. The best OB-6 demo I heard, yet.
Thanks :) They're very simple patches but i find the OB-6 does simple very impressively.
Wonderful vid, bud- thanks for sharing! For the time being I have to settle for listening to the OB-6's glorious voice on vids like this lovely one. So this is a great service you're providing to those of us who still haven't gotten our hands on this glorious instrument!

Proud owner here.. my favorite synthesizer of all time with out a doubt

this thing is glorious.
Oberheim always sounds so lush. Plus 10:34.
I'd love to get one of these or the module version. It just sounds so good!
Really nice demo there Luke! 😎👍🎹🎶🍻
Love the myster and myth that Tom Oberheim created and still lives to crest for us all. God bless Tom Oberheim.
Excellent, like the other demo. You have very good taste in programming.
Even in my little shit iPad speakers this thing sounds godly. I yearn I yearn. :)
Oh my god I just adore those sounds 😍
Super lush, love it!
This synth really has some characteristics.
Great sounds and.... Prince ;-) It's my next synth.
very nice
Thank you :)
Just got the OB-6 I think it's fantastic! Some people complain but honestly this id not as huge as the old ones.. :)
It sounds soo good!
Nice Juno 60 I see there on the side..damn I miss my 60
Great demo 👍👍👍
Sounds epic Luke!
Spectacular.
Cheers Phil :)
Nothing touches the OB6 in terms of sound, the player also helps ;]
wow these patches sound awesome :)
Yo man raw video thanks for this. Playing is fantastic
Nice sounds! :)
Thankyou :)
Your still the best...!
Very good stuff Luke! STXY'S Dennis DeYoung was a good front user of Oberheim. You beat it easily.
Hi Luke, unbelievable Patches ... Amazing ... Goose Bumps ... I`m crying ;-)
Do you share these Masterpieces ? Greetings from Germany !
Just bought this!
I just sent it over Uriel :) Thanks for your purchase and have fun!
The patches are amazing thank you!!
Man. Maybe the OB6 is the one I want. Lol.
Haha it's ever so slightly my fav at the min.
Yea it's def the one you want, and need.
I know exactly what you mean, Uberphat- I just can't believe it took this long to discover which synth was responsible for basically my whole taste in synth voices, lol! This synth is the sound of my life. :)
tard
right from the opening chord! audio gravy
Nice
Is that an aftertouch effect that I heard @ 10:38?
It s because of ppl like you that my credit card is frying now... 😅
Great!

How do I create a sound similar to the one at 4:50?
David McKelvey by developing some skills and some ears.
Great presets, but Why did you make the video in Black and White, you don't like the color of the OB6 and all those beautiful synths that you have there?

nice!
potrei avere il link per aquistarli?
When are these gorgeous patches out dude?////
Hi Oz Oz the OB6 patches are now available to buy! Follow this link :) www.lukeneptune.com/soundsets/
Can you do filter sweeps (since it has 4 steps) with juno 60?
uhoh 2:00 started crying
what patch bank does this load to?
Bank 0 (000-099)
4:48 !
What is your favorite synth, and how did this compare?
The OB-6 is actually my favourite synth followed very closely by the Prophet 6.
Do these have the option to be edited via 'soundtower' or some sort of software like the other DSi Stuff?
Yes
Blake Foster why would you NEED to????
Is it still your favorite compared to the P6?
Interested seeing whether you'll be getting the new REV2 (at least for a similar high quality/enjoyable demo? :D)
gosh, what a synth! do you like the ob or the p6 best? edit: i just read your answer below, have you ever tried a prophet8? is it too big a gap in quality in regards of thr p6?

yeah the rev 2 seems great, thanks man, keep those videos coming!
Oh my. Shades of Vangelis! Where's Decker? Where's Gaff? Where's my flying car?
Man do I wish I had you around in my SF studio. I could take a couple sessions of you playing on the OB-6 and turn it into song magic.
I find 49 keys on a poly too claustrophobic for my playing.
Music isn't only grooves.
@Jmacatx Getting used to having more keys in front of you is a better option than limiting your compositions
+M - I agree, which is why I said what I said. Did you mean to reply to the guy above me?
jmacatx No, I totally misread haha.. Ignore that comment
less than 4 octaves is just a fucking toy NOT a REAL instrument.
I just don´t have any glue why there is no 5 octave version..it´s a shame with only 4 on such a great synth..
MZworldstudios has OCTAVE BUTTONS.
Sounds good. I'd buy one and a Prophet-6 in a split second if they had normal five octave keybeds. How are you getting along with four octaves?
why is this holding you back
Not enough keys for comping and solos .. even five octaves is sometimes limiting for jazz and smooth jazz.
Chris Strobel stick to piano.
@@SPAZZOID100 Or, get the desktop versions of the P6 and OB6, then purchase a quality 61 or 73 key midi controller. :)
what should i choose between ob-6 and prophet-6? I only can afford only one. I also have one sub37 and a ju-06. I can't decide

Not at all.
Wilson Rivera junos only have one oscillator and one ADSR. Too limited.
;-)
It is a pity but in the sound there is a "poison" inherent Roland series Juno
MY $50 yamahaha keyboard can do that too ;)
PurplePassion
Hahah Yama”Haha” that’s funny . Had to take a double look
PurplePassion LOL
Only one lfo and not per voice???? Out of phase lfo's per voice IS THE OBERHEIM SOUND.
Go with 5 octaves or go home. It looks like they are finally starting to make 61 key keyboards again.... thank you
