  • Fr.Coelho was a Portuguese Renaissance composer/organist and contributor to the "Flores de Musica" which was one of the largest musical works printed in the 17th century and presented to Felipe III of Spain. This Tiento or Ricercar is one of 24 of his Tientos in that work. His style of writing was influenced by Cabezon and also Sweelinck and William Byrd.

Thank you dear Jean! I just made the amendment.I was inspired to learn this as I am off to Lisbon in a few days time and am hoping to get to the Hieronymite Monastery and a few other places with possible connections to Coelho.....maybe have the chance to play a Portuguese organ or two ? It seems strange to have a surname that means "rabbit "How did that come about I wonder lol ?

Very nice, as always@@RosemaryThomas1 The only portrait of Scarlatti is, I think, currently on display in the Museu de Arte Antiga in Lisbon. The azulejos museum is also a must-see.
