    Copied from video description:
"The Mega Man Community is full of good people, so I want to look out for those same people as well. Your mental health, confidence and the ability to believe in yourself are far more important than the series we share mutual love and admiration for. Please listen well to the message within this video, and even if you don't agree with me, take care of yourselves, and you can quite literally do whatever you put your mind to. Please share this video anywhere relevant that you can, because I feel like a lot of you need to hear this. I know this message may come off as a bit tough lovey, but I'm speaking to you guys like this because I want you to continue enjoying this franchise while still having your head held up high. We have lives outside of Mega Man, and I want you guys to healthily maintain it, no matter what you're going through.
I will not be monetizing this video, because it feels unethical to reap profit from such a serious topic. If you DO see ads, let me know, because I can guarantee RUclips themselves may have monetized it like they've done before. I will personally reach out to them and ask to take off any ads, if possible."

Just gonna put my two cents here:
In the end, your greatest opponent is yourself. Having a rival is nice... but there's one thing to strive for above all else: to be better than the 'you' of yesterday. And if that means putting your hobbies aside just for one moment? Do it.

I agree, when it came down to the home stretch in college I had to make some changes, make some sacrifices and stick to a good plan and I graduated with my class. After that it took a bit and I just applied a lot of that mentality to other things and I had to confront a lot of things about myself that I didn't like addressing. It is an uphill battle friends, a battle of inches but the skill will come if you are committed to doing it. I'm as average joe as they come and most of what I'm good at today I had to work at it, but I'm proud of where I am and you all can get there too! I know ya'll can.

I've been so terrible that hearing this video genuinely brings tears to my eyes. Beating a boss hardly feels like an accomplishment, it just feels like one more wall has been lifted, which is followed by another wall, ready to crush me the moment I even attempt to lift it. Hearing this kind of encouragement by someone THIS good, genuinely helps me.

One common misconception I've experienced with many is that 'not wanting to improve in games equals not wanting to improve in life'. I get the concern and the positive attitude with this video, which I really appretiate, but I bet many if not most people who adore your skills and call them impossible to achieve don't necessarily come from a lack of self-steem. Precisely not wanting to put energy into games or even self-improvement in them (no matter how much one enjoys the medium itself) perhaps indicates that you need that energy somewhere else. Tempering expectations is a mechanism that's helped me move on a lot, I would be still daydreaming about teenage dreams had I not done so.
And personally, the thing that has worked for me when playing videogames at tough levels is that 'my achievement means nothing'. Contrary to what it may seem, when you don't hold meaning to your achievements it stops being a race to improve yourself and becomes a more hobby like activity, where improving happens because of curious experimentation if nothing else. It's very easy for people to dishearten if they feel like they have something to demonstrate to the world (it's a terrifying enough feeling already irl), so stripping it from videogames (like the fun hobby they are supposed to be) proves more helpful to people like me. Praising people who do much better than us is just a way to send them positive encouraging feedback rather than a mental health issue.

I realized a long time ago that if I put enough time into a game to get "RUclips level good" (no matter if we are talking about platformers or strategy) I'd have no time to experience new games and may even start resenting the one I'm playing.
It's not that I fundamentally doubt myself, just that the payoff simply doesn't justify the effort.

It's just as Bruce Lee once said, he doesn't fear a guy that knows 1000 moves that he learned in a hour he fear a guy that have praticed the same move for 1000 hours.

That's the keyword : Focus. Is good to learn a little bit of things in life, but you need to put your focus in a specific point, where you talents and skills explode, your true potential.
Something that can't be found by putting others in pedestals seeing them as Gods, but what you can do is take the positive aspects from those that surround you, and multiply the encouragement to be you, without the chains of fear or thinking "what it he/she/it says something?".
Live your Life, don't let people push you around it they don't know or haven't walk in your shoes to criticize your dreams and goals.

Completely agree on all points. I’ve had people call me a Megaman god because I’ve completed no miss runs on 94 classic series robot masters. This is an accomplishment yes, but it has taken me 3 years to do. It’s a serious time investment, but I just enjoy Megaman that much because it’s fair and difficult, it’s like solving a puzzle, and with practice can be done by pretty much everyone. I do fail.. a lot.
It’s been valuable to me personally as well - it has taught me persistence is the key, failure is an opportunity to learn, and the best way is to teach others if they want to learn how to do the same. I was a shy, introverted kid, and now I am 3 months away from getting an MBA, and this challenge, believe it or not, has tempered my patience through it.

It was normal to look up comment sections for any combo and gameplay related videos on YT and twitter, and see someone mentioning Donguri(probably the most well known player), always bringing him up in discussions, and downright affirming he is the best player, ''a god'', despite DMC being a non competitive single player game where one of the main focus of high level play, is the player self expression, and that other less known players had already surpassed him on a technical level.
It got so bad to the point that his ''fans'' or viewers would start harassing these same players, and Donguri himself had to make a statement and apologize for his viewers behavior. Some people don't like him due to some bad rep he got because of these incidents, even if he was not to blame.
These viewers are generally ignorant about the games mechanics and/or community around it, so when they see someone who's above average, they gather around that player and stay in a confort zone, ignoring simultanously other players and those that came before them, and that ends up leading to some form of idolization. Anyone can git gud at these games, it just takes a lot of practice, research and determination, and the reward a lot of times is not nearly as big as these people make it out to be.

Very relatable. I may not be a good Megaman game (I'm still taking damage in Zero/ZX games despite playing a lot), but that ain't gonna stop me to try, fail, and try again. Same mentality goes in my social life.
I know it's a cliched quote at this point, but "practice makes perfect" is true in games, and irl, you can't deny that.

You should try my challenge- beat Kraft in MMZ4 with the water hose and no health upgrades ( need the weapon replenish chip ). It is pure hell not being able to use the saber in that fight, and you have to survive a very long time. If you never tried it, it is more difficult than you’d think. You can’t destroy his bombs or homing missile. It would be difficult even on easy mode. If you can do it on normal mode with no upgrade besides the replenish chip I would pay $100. I want to see it .

    • @cocomunga
      @cocomunga 3 года назад

@Wilson Nascimento Yeah not being able to destroy his bombs is why it is so difficult. I think it is possible to beat Kraft with the water. I tried for a few days many years ago and managed to take off around half of his health. It was very difficult to do and required luck and knowing where to stand for the best chance of survival. I would respect seeing even a TAS.

This was in my recommendation, glad that I watch this.
I do agreed with you. Most people who see other people work or skills in stuff make them feel less motivated or lose their self esteem because they believe that they won’t reach that level, that is a lie because they can reach that level of skills. This can be apply to many other games or in different career.
Besides games that I enjoy and want to improve, I’m a graphic designer and artist that I want to improve my skill in art and want to share my ideas. I haven’t mastered my skills in anatomy or colors because I’m still working on it, but if I don’t push myself and take those step on improving, I won’t be a better artist in the future.
We aren’t like Michael Angelo level of art or Daigo level of Street Fighter 3 because both of them started immature and slowly became better and better that they are well know for their skills.
Don’t give up just because you’re a someone who don’t have the same skill at the beginning , doesn’t understand how to play or even you try for the first time you won’t reach those skills in only a day.
Practice make perfect, Believe in yourself and don’t be shy on asking for advice or even watch others people videos on the topic you want to improve.
You can reach those levels if you put your mind and dedication to it.

Getting beaten down by life for a long time tends to do that to people, but I think you nailed it when it came down to one key thing: Most folks (Myself included) tend to throw in the towel really quickly because we don't get things down right away. We never actually try because we go from the jump screaming that we will fail.
I can't speak for others but in my case it just comes from this idea of having to play catch up with everyone else, and not wanting to be the worst person in the room even when its undeniable at the time. Like you, I grew up on these games (Mainly Zero 2) and it took me a LITERAL MONTH to get past the intro stage, and another month to beat one of the 4 stages without getting the lowest possible rank. Now I can kinda casually A or S rank everything aside from Sunken Library (Hate that mission with a passion). Never saw it as grinding, its just that my GBA and these games were all I had.

I didn't expect something this deep to be on a Mega Man channel but I can't say how much on the dot what you had to say was. I'm only almost 24 and this rings so clear. It's great to learn this kinda thing the younger you are. It still won't mean you'll be perfect at it but at least you will be in a better state of mind than most. I honestly blame how the worldly society is now a days. They don't seem to teach how important it is to be okay with and excel with yourself anymore. They only praise the ones who are doing what they think to be good and say that others should strive to be like them or demean them for not being like them. We are all humans, imperfect at that, so no one is better than anyone else. (unless you really do some messed up things to others in my opinion) When we compare ourselves to others we only hurt ourselves. The world is always doing that and so many people are effected mentally and emotionally by it. It's not easy to get out of self loathing, low self-esteem, self deprecation, ect. In fact stuff like that is so damaging that it can linger for a while, even after you've thought you were over it. But that's a normal thing when we've are already damaged. But just try to fight it. Reject negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones, think about 10 things you like about yourself or 10 things you can do everyday, regardless if someone else can do it. None of us on this planet is unique enough that no one can do something that we can do. What counts is who you are and that's unique enough. People who are the real deal will see that and appreciate you but you've gotta appreciate yourself first. Enjoyed the video and have a nice day everyone.

I started playing megaman games since I was like 8 years old and I never really discouraged myself like that, back then I also played with my brother switching the controller every time we died so that's one reason why I didn't give up, it was fun, but maybe I was also too innocent back then I don't know.
But I did encounter a very similar 'wall' with learning languages, I felt like people who knew other languages are some sort of higher beings, but now five years later I actually found people who look up to me the same way I used to, and that's when I realized we're all human.
Anyway, I'm not really sure how much this even matters here, I'm just glad someone decided to talk about this so openly.

Reason why i like the megaman games is when you start you quickly begin to think "I can't do this, that's impossible" and then you surprise yourself and get through it sooner or later. I tried a buster only no armor x run in x1 and surprised by how far i got. All it takes is practice and the mentality to keep going.

Your videos got me back into playing Zero 3 and trying to play smoothly. I used to think your gameplay was completely out of this world, and I mean, it is still amazing, but I recently figured out how to speed kill Phantom with no damage consistently (hey, even without cutscene skip!) after like a week of learning what’s safe and not. It’s a true inspiration. It’s been a long time since I casually speedran Metroid Zero Mission, but your videos helped me rekindle that part of myself that loved the little incremental improvements in... anything.

I think for people not in the community, when they see-in their minds-almost flawless gameplay, it's a combination of "they're a god" and "how many hours did it take to get there?". I think the second part is a more valid response than the first, but still can be concerning to others.

Magnus is definitely right. As someone who's recently started speedrunning Zero 3, this shit is tough. It is far from easy, but also far from impossible, it can be done and when you do eventually do it, that was all you. You practiced at it, you put in the work and you got better at it. It's definitely daunting seeing gameplay like what Magnus shows but you can definitely work your way up to it, it can be done.
As a sidenote , I really have to thank you Magnus for this great content and the comprehensive tech guides, that and ajarmarr's Z3 speedrun at GDQ a couple years back have really made me get deep into these games and even though it is difficult I am having a blast with it, so thanks for that

Also people usually forget that the difficulty for Megaman games are usually hard so it makes them think they're so bad at the game. Thank you, Magnus. Even if this doesn't particularly apply to the Zero and ZX games for me, I've struggled with that same mentality in everything from music to engineering to even just simply being a girl, as ridiculous as that may sound. All the same, I mean, if I can pick up speedrunning Celeste and be a mere 50 seconds off from the world record on chapter 1A, who's to say I can't learn to play all these ridiculously technical songs, or learn how to build and program real life variants of the same robotic limbs we see in scifi media daily? I just need the patience and motivation, though unfortunately, both are very scarce resources for me.

its not as easy as just telling people to just get over it, it takes a lot of effort to clear a mentality like that, sometimes even a revelation, i had horrid self-esteem issues for most of my life and while i'm better i'm far from getting over it entirely
but i do think that i can, and you, who's reading this, can get over it too, anyone that says its going to be easy is selling shit just as much as anyone who says it's completely impossible, don't give up on yourself, everybody fails at least once, pick yourself up and try again, one day it will all have been worth it
