just do an online search for a carburetor for a kohler CV16S engine. There's a ton of them on ebay or amazon, aftermarket and inexpensive, but not high quality. I'm sure you can find a genuine kohler carburetor, but it'll probably be expensive. Alternately, you can get a rebuild kit for this carburetor. Just an online search is all you have to do.
i have a mower that will do that when hot, then will die eventually. let it cool 10 minutes or so and you can mow again, runs smooth till it heats back up. any idea? its getting plenty of fuel to carb, i do know that
A few things to check. Is the anti-backfire solenoid at the base of the carburetor working properly? If not, it could be cutting off or limiting the flow of fuel through the carburetor main jet. Another thought is that the ignition module could be faulty. I've seen that where they work when cold but quit out when the engine gets hot. Though it usually takes longer than 10 minutes to cool down and work again....
@@Buckwsr I just mowed. About 10 minutes in. Surge starts. Then a few minutes after it starts it will die. Wait about 10 minutes. Starts and runs fine then it all repeats
Could use some assistance here. I have a Craftsman Lt2000 that was surging so bad it would die at low idle. Bought a carb kit and replaced some fuel lines, filter, air filter, sparkplug, and put the new carb on. Sounds great at mid-low idle but surges terribly at high. Any suggestions?
Surging always means too much air and not enough fuel. Either your carburetor jet needs better cleaning, or possibly your sucking air from a gasket that's not sealing well.
I've gone through and replaced/checked every gasket on the carb and intake system, brand new carb and cleaned the old one and it still surges terribly on full throttle. I used the good ol spraying carb cleaner method everywhere to find a leak and I can't locate one anywhere. As reference it surges alot faster and significantly harder than yours does in the video. Something else?
Before you take everything apart. Change the Fuel Filter. With the Engine Cool, Spray the Exterior Linkage with Brake Cleaner. Put Two Tablespoons of STP or Seafoam Gas Treatment in the Gas Tank. Ratio is to Three Gallons of Gas, or Two Teaspoons per Gallon. Run the Tractor normally, powering down to Idle occasionally. By a the time you get close to a 1/2 tank, the problem should be gone or going away. I have this problem every spring, with multiple engines, and have never pulled a carburetor. Ditto for the Snow Blower in the Fall, just have to start out running it on Choke, slowly dialing the Choke open.
Thanks, Steven. I'm not a big fan of fuel additives, and since this tractor had sat a LONG time...over a year at least....I wanted to give that carburetor a good cleaning and a fresh start. And regular use is the best thing for these machines. Thanks for your tips!
This looks like great advice- thank you. I'm going to try do what you did, I'm having the same problem with my JD LT160 Kohler.
That was a great video and very informative thanks.
Thanks for the lesson. Enjoyed the video
Thanks, Al

When it starts to surge and die, if you apply the choke, does it run better?
@@Buckwsr no
but once cooled down smooth as silk, then repeat. im thinking coil is breaking down when hot
Have done all these on my trophy built hydro horse riding mower and it o my stats on a high revv… won’t go down low. What else can I do ?

I’ve got the same problem same mower! Thanks😊
Clean that carburetor!
Sweet my first thought would have been governor out of adjustment somehow.
