Even though most Floridians treat them like a joke and even throw parties, I’d be concerned if CA doesn’t have a similar infrastructure that Florida has as far as hurricane protection (Shutters, hurricane windows, Utility company on standby, etc)

After years of drought it's pretty cool seeing how much snow Cali got this winter and then immediately following it's going to have the wettest August on record. I think the average rainfall for August in LA is 0.0 inches. They're going to get 3-12 next week for sure. It'll have some negative consequences, and 85% of the water is going to run off anyway as it won't be able to be absorbed into the surface- creating terrible mudslides... but it'll also refill the aquifers and fix the problems brought on by decades of drought. Awesome stuff.

You should never be so certain that this storm will weaken once it hits cooler water… you have not had enough experience with these types of systems in this area.

As I understand it, Tropical systems that form near the US and Mexico maintain the hurricane designation. The typhoon designation is given to systems in the far west pacific.

As I understand it, Tropical systems that form near the US and Mexico maintain the hurricane designation. The typhoon designation is given to systems in the far west pacific.
