- Although dyeing exists in almost every nation around the world, Japan's Indigo dyeing, the "Aizome" has its own uniqueness. Started around 300 years ago, the basic method has not changed since its birth. Now with so much industrial color dyeing being the norm, dyeing using natural method is in a way quite luxurious while a high cost dyed clothing may cost up to a few thousand dollars. We have found a place in outskirts of Tokyo in the city of Kawasaki where you can bring your own garment or even a cloth to be dyed in the ancient method. Here you can dye your favorite T-shirts into a much fabulous looking Japanese Indigo version! This time Ellie visits the Dento-Kogeikan where the two masters of dyeing helps her out on creating a one in a world T-shirts and Hachimaki (and a mask). Somehow she finds out it's not a walk in a ball park after all. Check out what hardship she has to go through to reach her ideal indigo look. So we decided to get her ready for the modern Japanese T-shirt combined with a Samurai or Ninja-like Hachimaki style

Interesting
The colour changing when exposed to the air reminds me of traditional European dyeing methods, which are very similar. They just used woad instead of indigo

Nice Gojo shirt.
Do they still put pee in indigo dye like they did in the middle ages?
I thought that was purple. Either way no they would just use ammonia
@@drowningin Lots of dyes had pee in them. It helped to fix the color or something like that.
I was used to be a Kimono salesman
I have heard that the origin of Aizome is Tokushima prefecture
If you have the opportunity to go there, why don't you be 佐藤阿波藍製造所
Who is this lady? What happened to the guy?
