    its amazing how well the character of Ghost has aged, he was such an evil character but so charismatic and so feared at the same time. Someone told me that Ghost is stringer bell, Tony Soprano and Walter White combined. What's interesting with Ghost is no matter how horrible his actions were, he never viewed himself as a bad person but simply someone trying to forge a better life for his kids and become "legit"

    Ghost wasn't good person but he was capable, smart, confident, composed, seemingly in control of everything and ofc charismatic. He did so many bad things in the show but because he had all these qualities that people value and even envy is why he was never disliked throughout the show. If there's one thing I learned from watching Power is that you can get away with so much as long as people view you in a good light. James was always trying to keep this perspective on him and was so good at it that he became a politician.

    Ghost is a high function sociopath similar to Sherlock Holmes,Tony Montana,Bruce Wayne and etc. They have the capability to have SOME empathy but not all like normal people of society. They are not inherently evil like Patrick Bateman, Michael Myers or Jack the Ripper but they can switch like a light bulb to those personality’s that make them act psychotic like Ryan Gosling does in (Drive 2011)
    They thrive in POWER,MONEY RESPECT AND SEX.

However, I think the high-functionong sociopath would have a higher propensity for the effort it takes to control their emotions, and perhaps with their "weak" conscience, can still grow to sometimes use their "powers" for a relatively selfless purpose

    I think to analyze Ghost, you have to look at Power as a literal representation of the crabs in a barrel/bucket mentality. The bucket is the streets and James is the crab desperate to get out, while those closest to him are the ones trying to keep him in.
    From day 1 he was consistent about 3 things.
    1. The nightclub thing was his childhood dream, not some way to clean up the money; the show was clear about that.
    2. Not wanting to be a drug dealer anymore
    3. leaving legit money behind the kids for the rest of their lives.
    He has a convo with Tommy about it in Episode 1 of the series. Tommy laughs at him. If you look at Ghost's face in that scene, he looks like a child who's dog just died. You could literally see how much it crushed his spirit. Then you see shortly after he speaks to Tasha about it with the whole "Biggest drug dealer in new york" line. He has another convo with Tasha about it in episode 3 of season 1 where he says he doesn't know any old wrinkled drug dealers because they're either dead or in jail and asked whether or not that scared her. She says no because he's the best.
    Ghost's personality fits someone who is desperate to be saved. He was so desperate to be legit that he was literally willing to do whatever it took for him to be able to get out of the street life, from lying to people who didn't want that for him (Tasha and Tommy) to killing anyone that wanted to keep him in the game (Kanan, Lobos, Milan, Jason, etc) and was also desperate to provide a life for his kids like he never had. The VERY FIRST convo he has with Tasha after signing the Basset Deal in season 3 Episode 9 near the end of the episode about how Truth would expand beyond anything he imagined, but how the kids would have legit money behind them for the rest of their lives. Tasha then apologizes to him for being wrong for doubting he could make it with the nightclubs.
    I was curious about if Ghost was really as bad (at heart) as he was made to seem at the end of the series, so i've watched this series through multiple times. It makes a difference if you look at his actions at face value, or if you look at his actions from the way he was described. For instance, Angela (After accepting the new position at that banquet) reveals that Ghost was smart enough to go to Choate, but stayed in the streets because he didn't want to leave Tommy behind. Even though what he wanted was to be Legit and be with Angela, Angela bounced, and so Ghost gave up chasing her at that time but never gave up the nightclub dream despite not going to Choate.

Joffery was a brat and Jackie KILLED it making us all hate Joffery but Joffery isn't on the level of Ghost intellectually. H3ll I don't even think Joffery is anywhere as bad as Tariq but that 's a story for another day LOL.
      Tyrion is my fav GoT character and their intellect could possible be equal. the only thing of course Jamie had over Tyrion is that he wasn't an imp and could def hold his own. Lets say it took two people in GoT in Tyrion and Bron to make up a Ghost. Take Tyrion's intellect in scheming and planning and Brons intellect in killing and you got Ghost.
      Had Ghost had GoT level writing, I'll put money that Power would be one of the greatest tv shows we'd ever seen alongside GoT.

      @@guilliman1990 I love power, but I honestly can not say that lol. GoT when I first saw it Immediately became one of my top 5 shows i've ever seen. Power is literally held back by it's writers, they had the character and content but they didn't engage them right. Power could have been better than Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad (even though I don't think it's as great as some may think BUT it is better than Power I think), and maybe a few other shows.
      Power, Sons of Anarchy, and GoT, have one similarity that connects them together for me and it's with the mothers in the show. All three have mothers who play a role of being afraid to lose their status and claim they will do anything for their kids even though the things they do hurt them even more, but Tasha is worse cause she wasn't smart at all, Gemma is almost as worse as Tasha but she was just a little smarter, but none of them were more intelligent than Cersi, Cersi was a beast when she needed to be and made the right moves for her, even though it got those closer to her killed she was still smarter than most.

The only thing I would add is from my own studies most therapists and psychologists say that not all narcissists are socio or psycho paths but all sociopaths and psychopaths are narcissistic and more than likely have NPD along with their other mental health disorders. And your break down even on the Machiavellian personality all those were identical to people with high narcissistic traits as well as full blown NPD. I don’t know if his guilt was genuine for his loss of his two girls or rather it was just his possessiveness of them that caused him to feel temporary grief. But he did seem genuine as he was getting to know Ramona and how he was moving with her. But he was very complex just as they said. But I loved your break down my favorite part was when you talked about him having split personality and how it caused him to be conflicted as he had yo switch between the two. Great work!👊🏽🙌🏽💯⭐️

    From the beginning, everything the man did was geared towards getting out of the game. Literally, everyone kept pulling him back in.

      Unfortunately ur opinion is the popular opinion. Ghost is not somewhat selfish. He is completely selfish. He has over and over again chased and claimed whatever he wanted REGARDLESS of the consequences that he is smart enough to forsee. He set Kanan up and robbed him of over a decade of his life and usurped the maturation process of his son. Only to turn around and want to go legit 10 or so years later. He hyped up Tommy to be a lightning rod for the feds, He at a certain point prioritized his relationship with Angela than the one with his kids, which was the start of Tariq's unyielding resentmenttowards him. Tasha was making things difficult for him by kicking Ghost out and other things, but there were still many key moments he had with his kids, especially Tariq, in which he chooses to prioritize business or Angela. Tommy throughout the series no matter what crisis they are in, always made time to talk to or visit Tariq and Reina, especially Tariq. Hence why after Kanan is killed and Ghost and Tommy are yelling at Tariq, Tariq flat out ignores his father and addresses his Uncle Tommy. Ghost constantly hurts and puts those he love in fucked up situations or dynamics as long as it serves HIS grand plans. I'm not saying that all of his motivations or logic was flawed I'm just acknowledging that one of if not his most defining trait was his selfishness, and how it played into his actions and relationships. Funnily enough while being more than selfish enough to be classified as evil, Ghost isn't even the most selfish person in the universe. That goes to Tasha. Raq and Monet fighting for 2nd place😂

    This was good but it could've been iconic. Give it 20more minutes and deep dive on certain big moments where you directly illustrate certain traits? It would be a masterclass. I still think you should, break down a few moments and share that as a "Part II", loved this though!!

    The way I saw it was that Tasha was more of a business partner & more a part of his ambitions & cover up! Angie was where his heart was, his home, most of all of where his vulnerabilities lived! I believe he loved Tasha & his kids & even Tommy like a brother, even Tommy's mother & also Kanan like a big brother & Kanan's son like a nephew too, but it was like destiny for him & Angie to be together! That was pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity & even more beautiful to see that she still loves him after all that time, still thought about him, & still wanted him too! It was like having the best of both worlds, but also it was like a monkey wrench being thrown into the machine that was helping u strive!

    I don't see why Ghost cheating on his wife is a sign of psychopathy. The relationship was over in his mind when he told her repeatedly that he wanted to leave the drug game and she wouldn't listen. She wanted him to keep risking his life and freedom and he realized she wouldn't want the person he was trying to become.

    I hate when the fandom brings up the Tasha “biggest drug dealer in NY” thing as Ghost reason to go stray from his family. She only ever knew that one version of him. All of a sudden he randomly pops up talking about quitting. Her response was definitely trash, but he never tried again to make her get it. It’s like he was looking for a way out already & that was his escape excuse

    I am impressed by your profound wisdom and psychological knowledge regarding the "Ghost" character. I would add that 'Ghost' had a 'healthy' narcissism and unfortunately it got toxic. There is no black and white in regards to narcissism. Simply put, we all have episodes of displaying a narcissistic behaviour once in a while and we should not let it be inflated or become toxic. As such, thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge, wisdom and understanding.

    Out of six seasons James never made one proactive move.
    He spent all of his time reacting to everything around him.
    He couldn’t control his urges and in the end he died the only way he could and was killed by the only person who could kill him.

    • @anjr9915
      @anjr9915 Год назад +12

      That's just not true at all. He has plenty of example where he was in control. one example is how he knew Angela cloned his phone and was following him, so he led her directly to lobos and got him arrested, then sent a hitter to stab him, then freed Tommy by using her illegal sketch

    • @cheolwulf
      @cheolwulf Год назад +8

      @@anjr9915 what you are missing is the fact that he gets himself into these situations by not controlling his urges and just doing things off of impulse.
      There is no power in this man.
      He lost all his power on the first episode by impulsively getting involved with Angela at the club.
      All those actions you mentioned are not examples of him being in control but rather examples of him having to react to what an outside player (outside of himself) direct his actions instead of the other way around.
      He his exerting to must energy sending Angela on this trail to lobos.
      Why do Angela even have knowledge of your involvement with lobos?
      Why is your friend even in a position to be arrested?
      What is his actual goals?
      What direction is he going?
      All I see is a man pretending to be powerful and understand the laws but actually has no power and never actually did.
      James is a fraud at his core.
      (P.s. all of this is entertainment if I say anything that might offend you personally I’m sorry. I’m just expressing my opinion on the character).

      @@anjr9915 also I had a few mistakes in my writing hopefully you can still understand.

    • @anjr9915
      @anjr9915 Год назад +3

      @@cheolwulf There are certain things even the most powerful person can't control, angela knew he was Ghost because of Holly, that's not on Ghost. Most of the situations he reacts to and handles very well btw are because of factors he can't control.
      Ghost knew deep down angela was suspecting him as Ghost, so he took CONTROL and delivered lobos to her. Ghost also was in control when he made a deal with stern's soon to be ex-wife by revealing the hidden off-shore accounts and buying back truth plus three more clubs.
      Another brilliant example of Ghost exercising power is when Tate tries to remove Ghost from the QCP, but Ghost gets a recording of Tate skimming funds and blackmails him.
      These are all power moves from someone who had real POWER, not just someone that understands power. Ghost was as rational, smart, strategic and astute as they come.

    • @cheolwulf
      @cheolwulf Год назад +8

      @@anjr9915 with all due respect, I still disagree.
      One of his major flaws (and one of the main reasons to gain power) is his relationship with his family.
      As a show we (the audience) understand that Angela is a cop and yes at some point ghost could find himself in a situation where he has to choose between maybe killing her or not killing her.
      But this whole break up my family for this high school fling situation is childish.
      This to me (especially since it happened right at the beginning of the show) is his biggest flaw.
      Yes some men will step out at times but a real man of power would never jeopardize his entire family on something as childish as a high school crush.
      This also shows me that he never truly loved Tasha and this is one of the main reasons his son hated him because deep down he knew that his father would have rather been with Angela meaning his life and the life of his siblings really doesn’t matter to James in the end.
      Everyone around him is a chess piece, but no real man of power actually moves like that.
      Yes as a street guy dealing with all those variables he was the best and he was able to translate most of that knowledge to the business world but in the end he failed as a father and gave away his power to a woman who would have put him in jail.

    We will realized that Ghost did what he needed to do. In life and in the streets. Ghost(James Saint Patrick) didn’t want to be a drug dealer. Go back to earlier episodes they were only lookouts according to Angela and the last episodes his uncle said he didn’t want this life. The entire show was him not wanting to be in the life. Yo can blame him all you want to, but his love for everyone and their needs hurt him. He wanted to leave the game and become something more than a drug dealer gangster, but he couldn’t because his wife was like making money at the club ain’t real money and you are going to be the biggest drug dealer convincing his bestfriend that he is changing. What type of mother says some shit like that not understanding the street life that when people can’t get you they will tough your family and they become collateral. He loved Angela, but he didn’t leave the kids he left Tasha the same women acting like a highs chooler with a dress showing cheeks than bottles instead of building an empire with him she was acting like a damn child. He love kanan but couldn’t kill him so he framed him. You can’t grow with certain people and sometimes you gotta cut your losses. Every change in each episodes his so called family drag him into this life that’s what got Raina killed
