  • Its time to put the BEST SELLING Taylormade P790 against the NEW kid on the block in the Ping i530 Irons. Ping have built on the i525, one of Pings best selling irons and performed extremely well within the Players Distance category which the Hollow Body Irons dominate. Slightly different in technology and also slightly stronger lofts in the Ping i530, which will be best performing and also more Forgiving??

    Good information. Thanks for sharing. From the view of a mid to high handicap player, I would appreciate a wider miss range. I would love to see the miss comparison expanded out to 19mm. This may separate to comparison more and be a better match for us higher handicaps that are serious about getting into this class of club. Also on feel, could you describe how strongly the club delivers the feel of a miss hit. the last time I tried a P790 it was difficult to tell where i hit the ball on the face. It did not deliver as much feel on a miss hit as my Srixon 585's. To me this is an important aspect.

      With many things in the 'tech' I think it may make some difference for sure but not huge amounts different to standard average due to marketing out a bunch of golfers either side of the standard normal. It certainly wouldn't affect my decision to buy or not buy a selected iron set 👍🏻

    Thanks Jay. Never really played any TM irons but the 770 and 790 seems to always perform well. The loft isn't too strong on the P790 compared to some others in that category which is nice for higher speed players. For fun, since you have tested all six irons, which of these three combo sets would you choose to play? P770/P790, JPX HMP/Forged, I530/I230.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +1

      770 and 790 would possibly blend very well as they look very similar, blend lofts with difficulty and perform really well. Same goes for the JPX923 Forged and, HMP but they would feel and look a bit different throughout the set, again lofts blendable without difficulty.
      Possibly the best though would be i530 and i230 but the loft blending is tricky and involves a loft of tweaking or doubling up on an iron say 7 iron for example. That way no or little to no loft adjustments need to be done but you get all the benefits of a blended set 👍🏻

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +1

      The one great thing about using efficiency or smash factor as the identifier for forgiveness brought about from miss striking as long as face to path, dynamic loft etc is monitored is that club head speed is basically irrelevant. I we were looking at Carry distances then no data set would be cross comparable so Efficiency or Smash Factor is the best parameter. 👍🏻👍🏻

    Jay, great work as always. The effort in shows each and every time you do a review. I have a question about a comment you make often. "you mention your are going to match the lofts". What do you mean by this? Since we wouldn't be matching the lofts when we test them, what is the outcome of you doing this relative to us mere mortals (for me index ranging from 6-9). I assume this mean we will see less spin, height etc. from the i530?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +2

      Howdy, matching lofts within delivery. Rather than physically bending them. As long as the loft difference isn't too much I can reduce or increase the loft whilst retaining all the other angles to test apples for apples. Golfers will see faster ball speeds, slightly lower launch angles/spin rates with a stronger lofted iron. This is sometimes good and sometimes bad depending on what the golfer needs. So rather than having lots of questions saying that I can't compare irons of different lofts, I match them in delivery and give displayed head data to prove it..... Saves the keyboard warriors from having a go 😂

  • @starks1974
    @starks1974 6 месяцев назад

    I noticed you only used the 7 in your testing and there was more forgiveness in the toe vs heal. So, I'm wondering it's the opposite on shorter irons where a player may be more prone to heal.
    It would be interesting to see more in-depth head to heads where you may see more disparate data between all of the clubs.
    I know when I tested some TM irons in the past the 7 was great, but got very inconsistent numbers on the PW. I know they state it should be the same throughout the bag but I'm not so sure about that.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад

      Wow its the first time anyone has said my reviews need to be more in depth 😊
      Generally (and I have measured countless golfers over the years) that it's rarely the equipment that causes the issues especially when loft increases. Granted it happens but seldomly. Main cause is the golfer either delofting or glancing the ball with the greater loft and not getting the distance control required.... Happens with wedges also 👍🏻

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  6 месяцев назад +1

      The lower spin profile will definitely suit golfers that create too much spin in their individual club delivery. It's not a huge amount of difference and of which golf ball choice would see that change by a certain number of hundreds rpm and could easily then spin more than the P790 in this capture 👍🏻👍🏻

    What a great review and comparison! Your comments about these clubs also fitting into the game improvement sector is spot on. It's becoming almost overcrowded in each manufacturers offerings. • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 месяцев назад

      I525s are still available although most fitting centres now have seized custom fitting them for the updated i530. If you are looking for a little more in the way of distance from something that looks very much player like then the i530 is a good starting point. They are smaller than the i525, the Pro 245 irons would also give the extra help in launch and ball speed, as would P790 and most Players Distance irons 👍🏻
