My Hadrian's Wall Path Hike - Part One

  • In May 2023 I caught a train to Manchester Piccadilly station, another to Carlisle followed by a number 93 bus to Bowness on Solway to begin my west to east hike of the Hadrian's Wall Path.
I carried all my camping gear and food for the trip but as you will see, the ridiculously wet spring had rendered quite a few campgrounds waterlogged and out of use as the owners tried to rescue their summer season. This forced a bit of plan B thinking but did not spoil the trip at all.
Anyhow, this what happened on my walk, part two to follow in roughly a weeks time.

Thanks for the video. My son and I are hiking the wall in July 2024. Your video is a good recon for us.

Thanks for your kind comment Heinz. I’m sure you and your son will love this walk, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the weather and the trail being good to you. I first went hiking with my Dad on the Cleveland Way at the age of 15 and I’ve never forgotten it. Build great memories together 👍

Thank you so much, really pleased you enjoyed it. It’s a great walk and given what happened at Sycamore Gap shortly afterwards, I’m so glad I made it up there this year. I appreciate your kind comments.

    Hello Stu,
Excellent video, thank you. I don't really know much about hiking so found it really interesting to see the many food & drink stops available... Looking forward to seeing part two.
    Take care.

On the Spanish Camino you bring a stone from home with promises to pray for people, and leave it at a certain point, at a cross. This idea of carrying a stone of remembrance is a great idea.

Yes I agree with you 100%, It feels a very spiritual thing to do. I will continue to do it on future hikes. Thanks for your input and for stopping by the channel. I really appreciate it.

@JustinWhiting9 I love it, as you clearly do. I intend to keep doing it as long as possible. My mind is busy constantly trying to figure out what trails I’m might do next year - or even maybe a winter crossing of one of them for a change.

My local patch Stu , those signs on the marsh are for when spring/winter tides happen and there is still people who think it’s ok to drive thru 😂😂 how could you say that farmers would make access onto the trail hard for us walkers lol it’s like the proverbial “Bull in Field” sign on most gates … still those trail huts with feed stations are a wonderful thing. A great part 1 atb Dave

Those trail huts are incredible - I was lucky enough to meet a couple of the owners and get to thank them for what they do. They are really great people and I really wish more trails had people like them prepared to do the same. 👍
