      Gust of gravity and "the problem was that the wind stopped gusting" are the nicer and most funniest excuses people can use to justify a bad landing.😀😀😀

      @erickborling1302 3 года назад

      @@sanpol4399 Do they have airspeed indicators? Airspeed is key. The pilot's excuses have more than humor value. The pilot shows their depth of knowledge or lack thereof when providing the incorrect explanation. Fact is they were pretty much always too fast or or too slow or not in directional control.

      @sanpol4399 3 года назад +4

      @@erickborling1302 You are 100% wright. I agree with you.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
      Of course I am on the humor side here.
      I am on aviation for the last 30 years. Long part of that on the great 737 family. We know exactly when someone is using an excuse for some mistake or if the situation was really tricky. 🙂
      So, when the landing is not exactly as smooth as we want, the gust of gravity and " I was going to make a perfect landing, but on short final the wind stoped gusting ,turned into calm wind and ruined my planning" , will be my humor jokes from now on to justify some obvious mistakes that my colleague in my side know I surely did, or to comfort my colleague ,in the case the not so smooth landing was done by him. 😀
      I used for the first time that " gust of gravity" excuse ,two days ago , at the radio model club , to justify bad landings from the airmodels people made, and all of them laugh a lot when I told about the " gust of gravity" to justify bad landings everyone knew was done only by rc pilot mistake, on that perfect and still air day.
      😀😀😀

      It has no fuel nor running engines, no hot components, only some Dacron that wouldn't be particularly easy to ignite. So based on this, according to the Laws of Action Cinema, it should be about a 30 foot fireball when it crashes. Unless flown by Homer Simpson, who set corn flakes and milk on fire and melted down a nuclear power plant simulator, with him flying it would be a several kiloton explosion.

    Close to stall speed at high angle of attack you may get wing tip stall due to billow shift, causing the glider to turn to the opposite side of the pilot's input. So you see him clearly turning left while the glider goes right. Below a certain speed you can't turn a high performance glider anymore, you go straight, stay in the middle and flare.

    Having flown a hang glider a number of times it looks to me like it was a tip stall ,and to land down wind is not the best idea, but he was o.k. And that’s what matters. He’ll know better next time. Good luck.

    • @delta_yeah
      @delta_yeah 2 года назад +1

      Yep, slow+billow shift to left=higher angle of attack on the right tip, stalling it and turning the glider to the wrong side. This has happened to me flying too slow scratching a ridge lift. Thankfully it dropped away from the mountain and I recovered after a dive.... Otherwise I'd have been screwed.

    Way too slow on approach. You need speed on all the way till you flare. Otherwise you have no energy to flare with. Approach with speed gradually Let It come to trim. Flare hard and hold it out. If you flare a little early and you climb out a bit, holding it out will allow you to parachute down without beaking it

    There's a saying; "Every take-off is optional, every landing mandatory."

      better to be on the ground, wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground

    I would not transit to flair position at that height.

    Trying to land on a downslope seems counter intuitive.

    seen worse. ive landed as badly. bad landings you can walk away from are good teachers, just don't make it a habit.

    It was the ground effect and headwind cause the hang glider to balloon up. Should have turned base farther back.

    Pilot ready to land long before the glider, so wan't still in flight mentality when the gust hit....just my guess.

    Tried too hard to muscle it at stall. Better to over-shoot unless you're going to over-shoot into an obsticle.

    Cmon mate!!,, You landed on your feet,,, what else did you want?!!! like others here have commented - even the best pilots make mistakes. Some might say you should've Flared later, some might say the approach was wrong. What I say is that the Pilot in the Air does what seems right at that time, no one wants to crash. So all the Best with your Efforts and May the Good Lord bless you with wonderful thermals and great soaring!!

    Looks like a thermal was developing right about the time he decided to land. You see as he turns base and final that his turns were coordinated therefore not a rookie. The double surface glider is not a beginners bird. As he's descending to the deck he appears to gain altitude (could be the filming angle or could be thermal activity). My bet is thermal -- especially when you see the wing lift suddenly during flare. He got away without broken glider parts or injury.

    Where to begin, Coming in way too slow, ever head about wind gradient and how that can slam you? Were you flying and texting at the same time, you sure didn't look focused. Take offs and landings are thw two most important parts of the flight, who gives a flying sock what you do in between, but get the techique down for agressive take offs and landings, learn how to flare like your life depends on it, and you can save many a wrong decissions.
