Castlevania Easter Eggs in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

- Surprising nobody, former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi snuck a bunch of little easter eggs and references to the Castlevania series into his new game, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Here's a concise list of what you can be on the lookout for while playing the game. (Some spoilers!)

O.D. is a a layered reference too. Much like how Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards if you reverse O.D. to D.O. it'd be pronounced Dio which considering you get the time stop ability from beating him is a reference to Dio, the time stopping, vampire antagonist from the Jojo series. On top that, his name, Orlock Dracule is a reference to both Count Orlock from Nosferatu and Dracula.
It could also be "Original Dracula".
and Olrox's name also comes from Orlock
O.D. Also says that "death is too good for you" which is what alucard says to the succubus in SOTN

Something tells me that the "Avenge the death of Julius" quest more or less confirms the somewhat common belief that Julius Belmont is indeed based on Igarashi's likeness.
The wine glass thing is more intended to be a nod to Dracula tossing his glass during his “what is a man” quote
but it also act's as a holy water type of weapon when he uses it.
There is a room somewhere in the castle with a bookshelf that takes you to a place called “8-Bit Nightmare”. It’s a pixelated area which resembles a classic Castlevania stage, complete with side-scrolling, enemies, and a boss who you fight at the end
the boss also is a recreation of the second form of dracula from the same game

Various other references:
1. The Silver Knight Familiar moves and attacks exactly like the Demon Familiar in SOTN.
2. There are chairs you can also sit on on SOTN.
3. The Caraboose familiar sits on your shoulder if you sit down or stay still long enough.
4. The Caraboose familiar heals you exactly like the Fairy in SOTN.
5. The Shard system is exactly like the Soul system of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow down to the _"Speed Dash"_ you get near the end of the game.
6. Using/Relying on alchemy to get new weapons from components and monster parts that you have to hunt down comes straight from Curse of Darkness.
7. Having to kill the _"controller"_ that isn't visible without a special item is a nod to when Ricther is controlled by Shaft and you need to equip something to see it.
8. The Lilli's three jumps backward before using a diving kick attack is a nod to a boss in Rondo of Blood for the TurboGrafx/PC Engine.
9. The fountain of Blood you have to drain comes straight from Castlevania: Bloodlines.
10. Female protagonist being betrayed by the one almost directing the show? That's Oder of Eclesia.
11. O. D. = Original Dracula. In case you didn't notice all he's missing is the beard.
12. Shovel Armor EX = Axe Armor from SOTN.
13. Draining blood spell = Soul Steal from SOTN.
Etc... Etc...

i really thought the whole shard system was taken from order of eclesia rather than aria of sorrow. hell, even the protagonist is also a magically/alchemy modified girl meant specifically to use these powers and its also endagering her life.
@@unkindled6410 I can see that. I haven't played that one but I have played the sorrow games and that hit home for me when I got the shards. So it could just be referencing all of them to give fans from each game something to remember and relate. The dominance system or the shard system. It has the same idea.

The multiples chairs you can sit on is from CoD
in Symphony of the Night, Iga wanted the fairy to sing but it never panned out. if you use the Fairy familiar and sit at the piano that's at the bottom of the Garden of Silence, the fairy will sing a song after sitting there for a bit. :D
She actually does sing in Symphony of the Night 👍
Its the saturn Version of sotn and i think one other version where she DOES sing you just need the right fairy and right version
I actually bought some decent headphones and listened to that song recently. It's a very pretty both with and without the carabosse. But she also doesn't sit on your shoulder there. She sits on the piano.

I like the fact that you have to kill IGA to vengence Julius since his game never got made because IGA left Konami
I'm convinced Julius was a bit of a self-insert character for Igarashi, so it makes complete sense.

I would also like to add that not only was Robert Belgrade hired to voice O.D., but that his name, Orlok Drakule, is not just a reference to the Japanese Akumajou Dracula variant of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night bosses Orlok and Dracula, but that it is also from classic horror movies, as well as books. Moreover, in the Japanese voice option for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the person that voiced Alucard in the Japanese version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ryotaro Okiayu, also voices O.D. in that voice option for the game.
I touch upon this in the sequel video to this one actually! But it's great to know regardless!
2:37 He does. After you keep jumping several times, 2 chests will appear on the room down OD, one of them containing the same face desguise he wears after you beat him in the Glacial Area.

The Hall of Termination music starts with the death theme from Castlevania 1.
I'm starting to think I might need to do a supplementary video on "Castlevania Music in Bloodstained" easter eggs, because that's not the only one I've come across!

In the quest log you can aveng a person called Richter (Rondo of Blood) and the demon you kill to avenge him is the Revenant. When I saw that i screamed "could you be any more subtle Iga".
I think you kill the Millionares Bane to avenge Just from Harmony of Dissonance as well and if you haven't played that one there was this room in the game where you filled it with rare antiques and he seemed to be fairly rich as compared to the other Castlvania characters. Call me old fashioned but I loved the crap out of Juste and Nathan as compared to the others(not that the others aren't legends either)
an even more, when you translate the inscription of the runes that appear along the revenant id says 'its a terrible Dracula curse' or something of the like
Fantastic work. I'll add that the Bandit Blade has the teleport move as the Alucard Sword.

@@jadenknott assassinate is for a dagger. The bandit blade (a regular sword) has it's own technique similar to it.

you missed the special voice messages that unlocks after completing the game
in ome of them the voice actor of aluc...I mean O.D. says:
"there's a message here for a Castile vania...weird"

And there is a thank tribute character in the game called :Shovel Armor that is a straight tribute to Shovel knight that took allot inspiration from Castlevania series, and some iconic retro classics, a nice thank you in the game 👌 ✌️ 💕 great video
IGA fight, he says, “As long as I am called forth, I will keep resurrecting!” Another nod to Dracula and his resurrection cycles.
and also a self-reference. Thats IGA saying to konami that as long as the fans want him, he will keep making games, even with or without konami
This may be a bit of reach, but the blood fountain near the start of the game could be a reference to Castlevania: Bloodlines on Sega.
Really cool! I've been a fan of the Castlevania Series since I was a child (20 now) and I think I've found my dream channel.

You missed a lot if you count that you didn't go into details about enemies, certain locations, how the den of behemoths is just like the other area but big like how the other castle in SotN was just the same castle but upside down. There's more but that's what I love about this game.
Oh there's a ton of smaller details that are similar to SotN and other Igavania games I could mention, but I wanted to highlight the big-ticket items first. I still have plans to do more videos on the subject once the DLCs comes out and give some new content.
@@SindraVaniaProjects There's DLC coming out? I actually really enjoyed Harmony of Despair on the 360. I wish they'd bring something like that to the PS4 as it was a blast to play with friends.
@@KyoMao As a part of the Kickstarter's stretchgoals, theres like a dozen modes that are to be included beyond what we have now. I consider them DLC even though they'll actually be free updates.

OD does drop something sorta kinda - a pair of glasses with attached mustache.
A chest shows up after you bounce him in the air, yes. I didn't even realize that was the criteria until the second playthrough I did, so I didn't count it.

The same people who turn their noses up at wall meat, that's who.
The bit at the start just after leaving the ship is extremely reminiscent of the opening to Rondo of Blood.
I believe Sypha is on the vengeance quest list as well!
She is! There's a few i left out but half the quest list is CV characters and it's awesome.

@@SindraVaniaProjects When i saw those names has I've been doing the quests i got a good laugh at first i thought it was just a coincidence because some of them are a bit more obscure references. But then names like Sypha & Simon started popping up & i knew this was intestinal. Amazing so many reference got slipped in without Konami throwing a stink about it. Then again these days Konami treats Castlevania worse then how Capcom treats Mega man.

in some places you can see the sky... the style of the clouds is the same as SOTN.
i loved that he make the clouds the same style as SOTN , looks amazing
I would also mention the crissaegrim sword from SOTN. It works almost identically to that one with a different name.

@@SindraVaniaProjects Yeah, I watched this one first, then watched the other. Nice though. This game is really fun. You could also say the shard collecting is like the soul collecting from the Sorrows games, but a few games have soul collecting.
Also, if you hit the Plume Parmas without killing them, they'll make the same noise the Stone Roses from SotN make when you hit them.
The toads also make the same noises as the frogs from SotN. =)

Pardon my lack of correct names, but the flying pigs make the same sound as the small floaty things In the inverted castle when hit. Also the petrification plant things from SOTN

I followed this up in my second video and amended my statement. =)
You can see several broken statues in the game that resemble the Save Statues from Order of Ecclesia and Dawn of Sorrow, they are like a hybrid between the 2.
I swear if OD and Miriam don't have half Shardbinder half Vampire babies I will cry my eyeballs out

@@SindraVaniaProjects to be fair, you would be too if you lived forever. immortality is a curse in many cultures, as eventually you experience everything, so you'll be dying of boredom, except you can't actually die.

You forgot to mention the sword whip weapon dropped by IGA upon his defeat, a nod to the Vampire Killer, and, most notably, Soma's whip sword. Could have also mentioned the secret 8-bit stage behind IGA's portrait, I suppose.

in SOTN in one of the room , if you sit in a chair for some time , the ghost appears on the other side , , .....theres a room called celeste room which does the same,

Although unrelated to the purpose of this video, you should have also mentioned that O.D. is "DIO" backwards, and that he can set up projectile barrages while he stops time. Way you described him, it seems as if he's nothing but an Alucard reference, when in fact he's a mix.
the 8-bit monster optional boss plays out exactly as draculas second form in the original 8 bit version of Castlevania. the design is similar also.
2:34. Wrong. O.D. does drop a mask into a chest after you lift him 2x. It spawns inside the room you lift him from beside the other chest.

Aren't you also able to avenge Juste from Harmony of Dissonance and aren't those vengeance quests an homage to Wind from Portrait of Ruin
Classic mode came out after this video.. it's definitely the most "Castlevania" reference so far.
Orlok Fahrenheit Dracule, (O.D.). I do not know how Iga could be anymore obvious.
Orlok is a reference to Count Olrox, a boss character from Symphony of the Night, Dracule is the Romanian pronunciation of Dracula, and Fahrenheit is LITERALLY Alucard's middle name (Adrian Fehrenheit Tepes). Also there's also his voice, long time fans will all remember the dulcet tones of Robert Belgrade (a.k.a Alucard's original voice actor from Symphony of the Night).

You missed one other character for the Vengeance quest Richter for Castlevania Rondo of Blood/Dracula X/Vampire Kiss/Dracula X Chronicles
Often overlooked are the JoJo references. O.D. is also a JoJo reference - he has time-stopping powers (complete with colors inverting while it's active) and if you say O.D. backwards you get....

The fight in the Millionare Room its also a reference, but thats a reference to Konami and its greed. And its the way IGA says that he prefers doing games then getting involved with pachinko (the current principal bussines for konami nowadays)
I Friking love this game. So much. Fun to play, and despite being ridiculously hard at parts, still, couldn't put it down
Suprised you didnt put in the Carabosse song. In SOTN(i believe the saturn only version) one of the fairy familiars will sing if Alucard stands still for a while while she rests on his shoulder. In Bloodstained, have Carabosse as your familiar and go to the garden's piano and once there Miriam will begim playing it and Carabosse will sing a song thats about 2 or minutes long
Put it on the sequel vid, since there were so many other Easter eggs!
If you keep pressing up Miriam will do the same pose as Shonoa when she absorb a giphy.

Also, Zangetsu’s character reminds me a lot of Julius. Both are demon hunters who do OP things and refuse to elaborate further. Other things they share is their side step abilities and never fighting the protagonist at full power. Also they both have a red trench coat, so that’s something.
You forgot about the colors of the shards being the same as the souls color from Aria of Sorrow albeit with a few additions.
The librarian O.D does drop something, you have to bounce him a few times and you'll get the fake nose and mustache glasses.

Also OD's battle is a reference to DIO from Jojo's, both can stop time and throw "knives"
I could do an entire video on the Jojo easter eggs in Bloodstained, but this was strictly for Castlevania Easter Eggs. (there is a bit of overlap though; like with the stone mask)
I just hope the next Bloodstained (if there will be one) will be longer with more mechanics. I thought the game was quite short. For the price of the game this was totally acceptable, but i just wish there was more. :)
I think we always want more, bigger, and longer Metroidvania games. Hopefully this is now a proven winner and they can expand in the next iteration!
@The Maphio I am aware of that, and was commenting more about the main game itself (or Miriam's anyway). Certainly with all of the DLC included, it will be a heftier game content-wise.

O.D looked like a candy ass version of Alucard when I first met him. Little did I know, he wasted my ass when I actually met all of the requirements to fighting against him.
Bloodstained it's a nice game,but was nothing like SOTN it try hard to be like but was not..many familiar elements and some vibes from sotn but till there...i wish one day they remastered sotn!!
This game felt like a legit Castlevania game that lost all the rights at the last minute, so they had to swap out licensed properties fast, changed some palettes, names etc.
bloostained is probably the best castlevania for now

Where is the Aegis Armor(spike armor)?
It's in the tower area on the highest point outside, but you have to invert to get to it.
You all are doing wrong the orbital wheel, you've to hold the attack button.
O.D. does "drop" something. Try again after beating him...and again, and again.
