This song means more than most people will ever know.
I love Faun. So often, when I listen to their music, it feels like something within me awakens and I get pulled back into a different time. It's always eye opening.
Yea this song rocked me!
Blot is a sacrifice and offering to the gods in the heathen tradition. This was beautiful to see. Faun got me learning about paganism and black metal. They were my gateway drug lol
Yes, and if I had to guess, this video depicts Walpurgisnacht. The last night of April and the death of Baldur, hence the burning of the effigy.
@@prettybxy77 That was a different video, which was my introduction to Faun.. ruclips.net/video/nLgM1QJ3S_I/видео.html&pp=ygUTZmF1biB3YWxwdXJnaXNuYWNodA%3D%3D
Faun in ihrem Ursprungsgewand rein von den Melodien
Beautiful new Track from Faun! Many greets from the Center of Germany.🤗🦇🤘
Yay, and from southern Germany, swabian Alps.
This is the morning of the flutes with back to back Banger videos featuring it. Loved the overall Celtic sound of this track. The vocals were melodic and beautiful. Just a great song.
You may want to check out this one: FAUN ACOUSTIC - Ne Aludj El (Live Video) It's a little different from the rest. More intimate and a little more exotic (the song is in Hungarian which is interesting because I don't think anyone in the group actually speaks the language). But apparently they just fell in love with the song...
Hi Tommy, heard this song today for the first time and I can imagine how you feel.
A really good song that touches something deep inside - so well done, amazing harmonies that tug you into the song.
The pronunciation sounds very French and the melody is like something from the French Middle Ages. The text is supposed to be Norsk, which I can't verify. Google interprets it as Icelandic, but can't translate it back straight away. That makes sense because Iceland was settled by the Vikings. On the remote island, the language has remained relatively similar, but not the same. And they left out the German sentences from the official text.
Faun himself says about the song:
“In our fast-paced and narcissistic world, we believe that it is fundamentally important to maintain a healthy balance between taking and giving. The tradition of the “BLOT”, of the ritualistic sacrifice in Viking culture has left a deep impression on us. It took us two years to search for fitting old texts, to form our song text from fragments of these texts and to finally realize the song and the video. We are very happy that we can proudly present the result now and above all, that we have encountered such a great interest, especially with a topic which is for sure far outside the usual entertainment culture.”
I will sacrifice to the fire
and this I will ask.
I will sacrifice to the earth
and this I will ask.
A sacrifice to the elves took place here.
I will sacrifice to the sky
and this I will ask.
I will sacrifice to the earth
and this I will ask.
A sacrifice to the elves took place here.
There the blood stopped
Let this blood stand still
Stand still, blood!
The male singer's German sentences are not part of the official text:
Put in the fire.
It shall be your sacrifice.
Thanks for this info! I took a deep dive into the languages used in this song and it appears that the first part is in Old Norse and the last part is in Old High German.
@@Mossy-Rock It is standard/high German that Faun uses even when there is no historical text as a reference. Faun apparently added to the original text and made it recognizable.
There is no old standard German. The courtly, medieval texts are written in Middle German. It was an attempt to find a common “dialect”. There was no standard German among the population at that time. High German was created with the Luther translation of the Bible. Similar to Middle German, Luther tried to create a German that everyone could understand. In doing so, he ignored Low German, on which English is also based. Because everyone wanted to read it, everyone wanted to be able to understand it. This makes it the standard language. To this day, there is no institution that standardizes the language.
@@Mischnikvideos Thank you so much for this information. Very interesting!
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Such an amazing song
Beautiful song.❤
Btw, I have noticed u do that checkin over ur shoulder when u react songs where are chanting, drumming, old instruments and that earthly heartbeat. I think u are very sensitive person and those elements give to u vibes.
I swear I felt like someone walked into my apartment during this.
Bottom line : Faun are just one of the greatest bands ever . Their music is sublime and beautiful .
They really are special!
Definitely makes you feel like you have gone back in time. I though that this was lovely and one of the best I have heard from Faun.
This was a magnificent song and video! Faun is a master at capturing the sound and feel of ancient music, music that takes us back to our ancestors and their beliefs and rituals. Analyzing the languages used, it appears to be sung in Old Norse and ending with Old High German. The hurdy gurdy was beautiful, with much of the melody being played in the low registers which gave it deep, haunting sound.
Loved this soooooo much.
As other comments said, a blot is a ritualistic sacrifice in norse/germanic pagan culture. It can be directed to one or several gods or goddesses and/or other spiritual powers, and it can be a communal thing or smth you do privately. I noticed they were singing about alfablot wich is about honoring the dead and the ancestors, so you could say its a bit similar to all saints day in christianity.
Great Reaction
Consistently excellent for over twenty years, personnel come and go and the band remains top quality.
think you might would like Hindarfjäll
Dude, so good! I always forget to add Faun to my playlist .... just did! I think I need to make a pagan playlist on spotify, there's just so much good stuff out there. I listen to a lot of pagan metal but I'm open to suggestions for other stuff. 🤘🤘
The live version of Odin is another good one. It introduced me to Wardruna.. not sure if youve heard of them.
Oh, Ive done some Wardruna reviews
Hello greetings from Germany
Hello there! Greetings from West Virginia!
and blot is usely very dependet tied to season midwinter or midsummer and for harvest and it dos not have to be bloody a specily now days it can be something you put time just to specifik to do as an sacrifice and offering
Great voices, video, I love when I can feel true dedication to music and storytelling from the band... The only little drawback for me is no big surprise/originality in the song. But this is a little "+" that lacks to me, probably bound to their genre (of music) in comparison with the genre I'm used to. Thanks, great thoughtful reaction!
Hopefully, no murderer was standing on your back 😅
Blot also means blood. A blot is a ritual to the old gods. Hail Odin!
hey man, i love your channel. i hope you might react to unda by faun some day, its the first folk song i ever heard and still my favorite by far.. but it has no reactions and doesnt seem too popular for some reason. i still think its better than any other folk song out there, itll take you on a journey like no other
Appreciate the kind words!
If you like this i suggest you faun & eluveitie - gwydion, a very atmospheric track.
Already did it❤
