  • Where I argue that understanding technology does not make one a good sound person. That doesn't mean believing technical falsehoods makes you a better one. Further, understanding technology helps one avoid mistakes and focus on improving their skills.
A technical explanation where there is no difference between 24-bit an 32-bit float when it comes to recording microphones (probably no difference between those and 16bit too!) maxrottersman....

hey this is the reply from our other convo in the 32 bit float fraud video
I have a Huwawei P20pro as my smart phone for recording the video , my indoor videos , sure i can have a wired mic , and actually i plan to use sort of a podcast setup for this purpose as i do own a blue yeti pro microphone with a pop filter i can put on a BOOM and film using my c920 webcam in OBS for videos should work? not sure , i see people talk a lot about davinci for edit software , maybe film using OBS and edit in davinci? not sure , in any case , i will be filming just as much if not more content outdoors at a distance from my phone which will be in my partners hand or on a tripod filming , i will be walking around at various distances , interacting , wired isn't really an option , im not walking around doing street interviews or anything like this , if i was , then i could do it , im just recording my work as i walk around talking on the microphone , and when i filmed it recently this summer without any audio device , the audio is not very good and often times its out of sync , the phone seems to have issue keeping it clear and together with the visual .........and so i thought , okay , this is why those street preachers use the wireless mics with the little muff on it , to get clear audio of them walking around talking and doing their thing .
i just want quality sound , and a quality product worth my investment that lasts and i dont mind it being in the shot , the logo being visible or any of these other gripes i have read about , this doesn't matter to me , im not trying to be fancy or make movies , just content that sounds clear outside from a distance as i move around and talk on my microphone system and interact .
The people that i would even bother to put in the content would be fine with me clipping something to them , i probably wont do it very often , but sometimes i might , and so this is why i was wondering if i should get the rode pro because its new , it just came out , its trying to address a bunch of concerns people complained about , it comes with two units , it comes with 2 free lav mics worth 100 dollars , it charges in the case , it comes with the muffs i think , apparently you can just plug it into your PC and xfer the audio files now without the app , it seems to be a unit that works well , has full warm sound and goes a good distance from the tests i saw outside ...it just seems like a good unit and i was wondering if its worth the investment because it would be a lot of money for me , probably 500+ CAD ....that's A LOT for a little box that records sound , but , if thats what it takes , hopefully i can invest now and have it at least be good to me for a couple years , then im okay with it , its an investment at that point to get the audio i need , with some editing skills im sure it will do all i need for a little while .
thanks for your time , any advice is helpful , thanks for letting me know about the camera , i mean , is that camera at least good for shooting photos for my website or something? or is it just too old , its no good for anything really? it was expensive when they got it for her , so it would suck if it had no use at all , i have a little samsung digital cam too , thats probably junk compared to my smartphone though .
well , ill come back soon to see what advice you have for me , thanks for everything! keep up the good work !

OMG, sorry for not replying! Many people use the Rode wireless mics so I assume they work well enough. My criticism isn't on their basic wireless system, but the claims that 32-bit float provides better audio. The mics that come with it aren't worth $100 each, pretty much the same mic without branding are currently going for $9 on Amazon (you can find them if you search Rode).
I've had my eye on buying something like the Rode system myself. I have a Sennheiser System10 and the latest Sony bluetooth. But I have no real need for them (not going out and doing what you do). I currently wire everything I can. Or, I use a portable voice recorder and use clap synchronization. I've done a video on the four ways you can do this. Once you get the hang of it, it takes no time whatsoever and I NEVER worry about bad wireless audio. I believe everyone will admit, you'll always experience a time where the wireless doesn't work right (drop outs, etc).
Video editing is a whole other complex question. DaVinci is overkill probably. You just have to spend the time playing with various editors.
There are so many ways to get where you want to do on a budget. My gut feel is, like you say, too much money for Rode's wireless system. I'd look for one that's used. Or, there are many knockoffs. Try one of those and if you don't like return.
