The reason you rent a car when you travel somewhere is so you can drive around wherever you want instead of having to rely on bus routes or paying a taxi everywhere. Obviously buying a car and shipping it to Italy so you can drive around is not gonna be very practical. As far as that $ amount I guess it's just over many years and he rents high end cars? Looks like the prices range from 10-100$ per day depending on the car.
No he spent 20k with them on hotel bookings etc. allot of the services in Europe offer vehicle rental as an extension of services. When I was in Lake Como Italy our room was $315 a night and they gave us an Alfa Romeo Giulia for only $30 a day for 4 days. Normally the rental price is much higher but when you’re spending a decent amount on the accommodation they’ll lower the price or you can use points. Clearly they didn’t let him use points after spending 20k with his booking agency. He should find a better travel agency/booking.
