Terri’s in heaven-- not only does she have a terrific boyfriend, the wonderful romantic Rick, she also has the lead in the school play! Rick’s being really supportive, offering her some helpful performance advice (his mom’s an actress at Strafford!). But Craig doesn’t find Rick’s advice helpful at all. He thinks Rick’s controlling and manipulative-just like his abusive dad used to be. When Craig raises his suspicions with Ash, and Terri starts coming to school with cuts and bruises, they convince Terri that Rick is far from the perfect boyfriend.
JT’s been spending more and more time hanging out with Paige and her Grade 10 friends, much to Spinner’s annoyance. So Spinner begins a campaign of embarrassment to drive JT back to his rightful place with the other Grade 9 geeks and losers. But JT’s not going to relinquish his dream without a fight!
Season 3 opens with the pending arrival of a new baby for Spike and Snake, inspiring Emma to start a search for her birth father just as she starts high school. Her friends and fellow schoolmates also face new challenges as they settle into a new school year. Degrassi kids will continue to deal with tough issues this year, including homosexuality, cutting, abuse, teen pregnancy and cancer. These storylines are blended with dating woes, friendship challenges, peer pressure and a healthy dose of fun and laughter.

Jimmy was the first to notice Rick's controlling behavior. He's honestly one of the best characters
Hazel notices it, too! She's very observant, as well as Jimmy. But, it is true. Men know when other men are controlling.
He is the first to notice because he is the character who is going to be most effected by this character. It's a narrative choice.

I love how realistically they show a controlling relationship. They show how it can start so innocent and sweet and then turn dangerous

And when Terri said she should check with Rick first when Paige invited her to her house after school for a major debriefing, it was like he always wants to know where Terri is, who she's with and what she's doing.
