I just realisied, I actually don't have a clue. But what I do have now is some good stuff to think about I guess. Thank you for the video Kate! 💚🌻 Edit: Favorite Films with mood: - Mary Magdalene - The Wind that shakes the barley - Avatar the way of water - Tangled and some other Disney Movies Books: - Harry Potter. (It's like it's got something in the air, that reminds me of the overall atmosphere in my school) Mood I want for my story: The feeling of a heart beating.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is the first one that popped into my mind. It's comforting to me in such a melancholy way. And reading The Folk of The Air feels like you're in a beautiful magical yet dangerous forest ❤
“Only the Stones Survive” is a great “mood” book. It’s mysterious, sad, supernatural, ethereal. The imagery and the dialogue of the different characters are sooo good.
Jane-Emily by Patricia Clapp is a YA story that is full of mood and atmosphere, in particular the opening and closing pages. I can't say how many times I've read it and it still chills.
It's incredible how you and your sister have this superpower of filling us with emotions. Personally, it's easy for me to get into decisions, when it comes to write, based on racionals perspectives, but when you start thinking about feelings and start feeling this emotions you are in a completely different game and writing your character's voice become more easy. Thx for this, greets from Brazil!
This video is a mood. As for the mood I want to infuse, I haven’t thought about it until now. I can feel it, but can’t quite describe it, but at least I’m thinking about it.
I begin writing projects with mood lol. Everything else I can mastermind, reskinning unused concepts, but mood is something which must be captured and nurtured when it strikes
I LOVE how your sister used formatting to work the mood in her book! And I can't wait to read Anomaly...I just got resurgence from the library and am excited to dig in!
I adore the Archangel trilogy by Sharon Shinn. I first read them in high school and each book has its own specific tone or mood based on who the main characters are and where they are in the history of their world. It's a science fiction series that follows a few hundred years of this human settlement on a new planet with "angels" and a guardian space ship that the residents of the planet worship as a god because they've turned away from all technology and forgotten their origins. Over the course of the trilogy, more of that knowledge (which is clear to the reader from the beginning, so I'm not spoiling it) is revealed to the characters themselves and it's a beautiful thing, kind of exploring spirituality and science and human rights and I'm about to go read it all again. There's this incredible sense of discovery and exploration throughout the themes of all three books. Two books came out after the original trilogy, but they weren't my favorite, so I tend to focus on the first three. Anyway, I'm working on a book now that I want to convey a sense of hope and momentum. The truth I'm screaming from the mountaintops (as your sister says) is: YOU ARE NOT STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. You can always transform and change your life. Thank you for another amazing video! 🥰
This is a great video. I watched a lot of videos for writers but never saw one who uses pictures or snippets from movies and translate them into words that create words. I hope you make more of these kinds. This is a video that teaches.
Thank you very much🍀 This video is a real treasure🎁 In my book I would like to achieve to the reader fall in love in the natural world after closinf the book, know I know how tondo this, thank you🌈 🦋
Love this! You have no idea how incredibly useful this video is for me! I am at a point in my book when I really needed help reflecting on his topic. Thank you so much for sharing!💖
Hi, Kate! I listened to this video, watching bits and pieces while eating dinner today. I am in the midst of intial drafts for my latest novel and am struggling a bit. In my desire to evolve and grow my own voice and the voices of these characters in contrast to my previous work, I found your words insightful. In particular, the part about point of view and style for tone. I plan to venture forth with a cautious yet curious pace to this new novel, in an attempt to better see the characters' triumphs, tribulations, quirks, and goals. Thank you for your insight. Namaste.
An alternative to how to write the Mood of the soldiers: "The heart was pounding in my chest, to not see the enemy but knowing that he is there is more frightening than meeting him face to face. Our only company in the streets are pamfletts telling us that we are surrounded and how many the enemy are. But I am less intimidated than they think that I should be. As long as the enemy cannot see us, we have one advantage and have to use it carefully to survive. Despite this there is no place were I would rather be right now than right here, with my comrades-in-arms. We have fought for our lives together and this has brought us closer than any other people can be. I love Clara and want to reunite with her, and I want to see my family and friends again, and I want to live, but most of all I want to be here for my brothers-in-arms." I am not a soldier, I base this on what I have read about them and my own imagination.
This comment is a request. Unrelated to your video. I have been watching your videos and am in awe on your content that you provide on your channel. Not being a published author myself, I strive to publish my debut fantasy series as soon as I can. But this comment is to ask for your recommendations on certain plots for fantasy, magic school trope (for writing, as I'm working on my debut series) I have build a magic world and it's a coming of age, young adult fantasy series and I would honestly love your opinions and suggestions. So basically, I feel stuck in my story despite working on it for 3 years and since you have read many stories, your suggestion would be of high value to me. It's a magic school story, with learning magic to saving it, to possessing more magic than others, there's politics, there's a social evil character trying to win over the world. I need some plot points. Some suggestions. Well, take it this way. You have read many books, seen them in the publishing rounds and you have your favourite themes. Well I'm interested in adding those themes in my novels. As many themes as you like, all are appreciated. If in the future, I do end up using those themes or anything that you wish to see in novels, I will mention your name in the acknowledgements of my book. - to be author of HEDS Series (hope soon, so you can see your name in the acknowledgements, do contact me if you find your name and want to give even more suggestions or talk to me regarding my novels)

That was helpful. I have read books and admired the tone the writer accomplished without being able to parse how it was done. The details!
