What is your secret to keeping half your ponytail on your shoulder as you are moving?
@@CharlesRaines4946 I've never thought about it. I just have a habit of placing my ponytail on my shoulder before I dance, and somehow half of the hair would fall to the back naturally as I move. I hope this is helpful!

Please do learn from a kumu. You're not wrong: there is a story being told through the dances, and you will learn them through the lessons. If you are taught the right way, you'll learn so much more than how to dance - you'll actively participate in a tradition that goes back through the generations, knitting history and story and motion and love and even the world around you into something ineffable.

I'm wondering the same thing. It definitely looks like there's a story that goes with this dance. From what I gather from the lyrics and hand gestures the story is about the rise of the king and queen at the time and paying tribute to them and the birth of the Hawaiin islands. I'm not sure that's just what I'm guessing from the lyrics and hand gestures.

I've already altered my dance moves to act as your mirror. There are no strict rules on whether you should start left or right.
