We did it!!!!! This video won Garden Video of the Year at the Garden Media Guild Awards 2023: www.gardenmediaguild.co.uk/awards/winners_2023.aspx (scroll down to category 13) Thanks everyone for the support!
Thank you so much! This one has been a passion project for the last couple of weeks so these comments mean the world to me. Like gardening, RUclips is definitely about patience and perseverance, but we'll get there. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the support!
Thank you everyone for the support. This video has received a lot of love and has even been shortlisted for Garden Video of the Year at the Garden Media Guild Awards 2023. The four other finalists really are fantastic, so I hope you all find this one just as enjoyable!
Thank you for these extremely informative (and funny!) videos, Alex. My biggest mistake my first year seriously gardening was over planting. At the time I had a full time job, too. Everything sprouted and I had a very good and big problem on my hands. It overwhelmed me and I put off gardening for a year. Then I restarted, but much smaller. Now I'm at the point where I mostly only grow things I eat and use on a regular basis. By God's help my husband and I paid off everything, even our house, and now just live off of his income so I can be home and grow our garden, cook delicious nourishing foods and keep us as healthy as possible. It's a big big job and almost impossible with a full time job. I 100% agree with you that automating watering is a must. It's a romantic notion, watering the garden by hand bathed in the glowing light of the setting sun...until it's every night for at least an hour and twice during the summer! Making these videos is so kind of you, but remember to get out in the garden too my friend! God bless you, Kelly
Your videos are so good, very professionally done. I'm here for the gardening content which is excellent but I wanted to say that I appreciate the effort you put into these, and you are a really great presenter
Thank you so much. Yeah these ones are a ton of work but quite fun. I think a mix of this style along with some to the point how-to videos will be the plan going forwards
Thanks Rebekah! It was a load of work but totally worth it. I was playing around with the onboard colour settings on the camera too so really appreciate this comment. You've got a good eye
WoW Alex that was an amazing production! I feel so far behind now! Ack it’s going take me a while to catch up with that level of quality and fun! The editing is astounding, very very well done! ❤❤❤ And really great gardening advice too! We are good with automatic watering but still have to walk a long ways and yeah there is a lot seeding volunteers, but at least we get most of the weeds. We are harvesting beans and peppers and awesome loads of figs and tomatoes ❤❤❤
Thanks, Mark! Don't worry, this was several days of editing and several more days of filming, planning.... Too much really, I've not done much else. It won't be quite this polished for a little while. Your garden keeps getting more and more plentiful though. Figs are an amazing effort, I'm hoping the grapes finish up this summer and that's only a second year harvest
Thank you so much! That means an incredible amount to me --- this one took so long to produce. Aiming to keep getting better and better, hope you enjoy them
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it. This was a labour of love and I've done little else for about two weeks but it was totally worth it, especially to see all these really positive comments.
Did I press send on that email? Would you do it if you could? There's nothing more frustrating than something stopping you from getting outside and onto the veg patch! To make the most of the little time I do have, I use a plastic greenhouse to extend my growing season: ruclips.net/video/EMdP0gJ_0ag/видео.html. But are they worth buying? Watch to find out!
Oh! the suspense :D Alex, such a great video and it's inspiring that you are growing your garden as you work full time in software dev. I'm curious if you have friends or colleagues with similar passion of gardening. Though I have no garden of my own, I generally would be happy to be invited to a harvesting party :) Some friends have done that in the past, and it's become less work and more joy for everyone involved. Perhaps there are people in your area are interested to learn from you and help out. All the best, you're doing great!
Thanks Irene. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the support. Sadly not many people I know are as 'in' to growing food. I know one chap in Scotland and my plumber had an allotment but mostly I take inspiration from RUclips, a small selection of books, and learning by doing or even just intuiting. I think that's a great suggestion though, I've definitely been considering setting up something in person - a few people have asked now, I've just not quite figured out the details yet. Might be a bit late for this year but if there's interest, I could look into doing some kind of workshop or meet-up next year
@@alexgrowsfood Sounds great that a few people already asked :-) You are building a community and I'm sure there are people, already or not yet your audience, who will be excited about your workshop or meet-up next year. There are quite a few platforms (in addition to RUclips) that could be useful to promote them. I'm happy to help with information if you ever need it.
I help researchers make their code more reliable and maintainable, mostly climate & ecosystem modelling, but maybe not for much longer.... (no spoilers)
@@alexgrowsfood I’m a coffee roaster and tea blender, I have loads of Hession sacks but can’t find a use for the in the garden! It’s a shame but I end up burning them. Paul
@@alexgrowsfood yes I’ve had 4 chickens for around 3 months now. 🙌 She absolutely loves them. And my two girls. They deal with them. 😀👌 Ive had some great harvests this year. I’m in my fourth year now. I love fruit trees. No effort. 💪 great outcomes.
No wonder this video won an award 🤯 I particularly like how you really connect to the frustrating emotions busy gardeners experience. Joy, frustration, nostalgia, guilt and an occasional hint of shame. The unanswered ending *chefs kiss*🤌🤌🤌

That production value is insane for a channel with just 500 subscribers!! You deserve a lot more :D

this is awesome! great tips thank you
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed and it was helpful!
i love gardening
There's nothing better is there? Just need to find a way to do it full time
Great video Alex! You have described my predicament to a tee.
Thanks, Alec! It's tough isn't it? If it were easier (and cheaper) to live off-grid & freehold in the middle of nowhere....

I only wish my wife would help out more. She isn’t green fingers
Ahhhh, Stu. If fresh home-grown food isn't enough of a bribe.... Chickens are the only other lure I can think of!
