Some folks think it's cruel to separate the cows from their calves. The calves can't be suckling on their mommas forever. It's not cruel, nor is it being mean. It's farm life people.
Thanks so much for all the wonderful videos - I love Callie's loyal devotion & also the way you say "anybody" or "anyone" when talking about what the cattle may do, just like they are people!
OMGosh, they are saying "Where's our hay?" And there she goes as soon as she figures what direction you're going. Such a sweet dog, guarding her human all day long!
I wanted to say thank you! I very much appreciate you sharing your journey with all of us on RUclips. I grew up on a farm in PA with about 30 head of beef cattle (Hereford/Black Angus) and your video documentation brings me back to my childhood. Your outlook on ranching and farming in general provides me (and possibly many other viewers) a much needed calm oasis in our lives! Your effort in making enjoyable videos is awesome! Again - thank you!
Thank you for this video. No matter what you are up to......I am all in. I have a better attitude after watching your videos. Your work and management are very good. Keeps me calm, knowing that human beings are still hard working and intelligent......😊
Hi Tyler. Thanks for your chore show. I really enjoy watching you do all the projects and untie all the knots that come up. I am happy that the grain bags fit into the bins perfectly. Callie is so sweet wanting to run in front of the four wheeler...her pack. Prayers to The Lord Jesus for you and your lovely wife and kids. Thanks again for the upload!
Tyler, google fledbag dispenser. They’re made specifically for bulk bags. I’m sure you could make something similar to it. BTW I really like the pipe fencing, thinking of doing that here on the farm. Problem is, it’s hard to find old oil rig pipe here in NC and the price for pipe is extremely high.
Go to NAPA and get a couple fiber reinforced semi trailer mud flaps, cut a strip of metal that goes under the bolts but on top of the mud flap all the way across, I used them on both front and rear of my 3 point 60 inch tiller to direct dirt back under the tiller, been on there 15 years and they get a workout, haven't had to replace one yet.
For the pig feeder flaps, you might try old conveyer belt material, its usually got a mesh inside to reinforce against breakage. I'd also add another thin 'ruler' strip along the top edge to reinforce the bolt holes and spread out the force the pigs put on a single point.
My husbands family work as operators at a quarry. They use these belts (old belts in the throw away pile) for all kinds of country life needs. FTR check with a local quarry for cast offs.
I’m a subscriber of both you and Chad Doss, I just got done watching his cows get out hahaha, seriously but his Donkey 🫏 opened his gate hehe. Anyway he says HOWDY👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻. God bless y’all🙏🏻
For rubber go to a rock quarry and ask for old conveyor belts. They usually have to pay to get rid of them and are happy to give you rolls of worn belting. They replace the entire belt if it gets worn or a big rip,but sections of the belt are still good enough for farm use. I use it for homemade minerals feeders, mats to protect the ground in heavy traffic areas like in front of mobile water tanks, and other misc uses. For the pig feed, don't those bulk bags have a chute on the bottom? Just move the feeder closer to the fence, lift the bulk bag over the feeder and let it flow. When the feeder is full tie the chute back shut and put it away.
I noticed a fabric knot on the bottom of the bulk bag as he was lifting it. I think that is the chute they use for unloading the feed. Corn/barley/soy is an excellent hog feed. The rate of gain will go up with that combination.
For rubber, go to a rock quarry, the conveyor belts they use to move gravel in the quarry cost money to dispose when they replace them so they are often very happy to give them away. It may be worn or have bad spots but it's very tough rubber. I use it for the lid on homemade mineral feeders and ground cover in high traffic areas such as in front of portavle water troughs for rotational grazing. In regards to the feed, don't those bulk sacks have a "chute" on the bottom? You should be able to hold it over the feeder and just open it up. When the feeder is full tie the chute back shut and set it back in your bins.
Great job on the feeder. If you bolted a piece of flat bar across the top and sandwich the rubber it might do the trick. You really have a nice calf crop this year.
That's weird those flaps are tearing. I guess nothing is as good as it used to be. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest with an abundance of log trucks we did use old mud flaps! Free! Anyway the conveyor belts sounds like a good idea also!
@@lbostain a 1 1/2” wide strip of 1/8” thick steel sandwiching the rubber with holes synced up in the rubber would spread the load and keep them from ripping. It looks like it’ll be a wear part needing replaced every year. But that’s better than once a month.
Suggestion from the metalworker of the house: attach a strip of metal to the top of the stall mat flaps, then attach the flaps to the metal strip and the feeder using durable hinges like 3' or 4' door or gate hinges. They would probably last longer that way.
You have a good looking herd. Your set up is nice also. I pay about the same in mid Michigan for pig feed. Love the channel and followed for several years. You still had a full time job back then. Beautiful family and thanks for the content
Tyler, on your pig feeder flaps, maybe putting a strip of 1-1/2 " 16 or 18 gauge metal instead of washers where its attached would help prevent the tearing. Also, everytime I see you putting up a hot wire the stuff you use is so much easier than wire. Not sure it would work for us we will fence much larger areas. Have to constantly check for deer going through and knocking insulators off of posts and grounding out the wire.
Good morning from New York State, we haven’t seen rain in an every long time. Keep hoping. Where I live is they have black dirt and the main crop is onions. Beautiful onions 🧅. And horses 🐎
Morning FT! That LS really works well for your many needs, I think you’re going to miss it when the year is up! So cool to have that pig feeder, working and looking really good! God’s blessings!❤❤❤❤
Glad to see you are using my grain supplier. I buy bulk cracked corn for my chickens, but just a ton at a time. Bucket transfer is fun isn’t it? I store my corn in 55-60 gallon barrels and then mix with my layer feed. Good seeing Lonnie loading your trailer, nice guys there and always helpful and friendly. Highly recommended
Chad Doss recommended that we come over to tell you howdy. So howdy from NW Iowa. I'll also be a new subscriber for you, so thank you for the great content.
I was wondering how the hay usage was matching your plan, and then you explained it all. Ha ha good timing. its all interesting. And saving $600 on two bags of pig feed seems huge benefit to the business - Awesome!
You answered your own question regarding an easy way to unload that grain when you pulled out your old feed bins! Easy peasy, build a slide gate and weld to the bottom of one of those old square bins, fill the bin from the bag, fill the feeder from the bin!
I vote for conveyor belting on the pig feeder. You should be able to find a variety of different degrees of stiffness - soft would seem to be best. If you find a roll, the leftover works good in the shop for standing pads, etc. If you believe in reincarnation, you might be my Dad. I'm sure he is watching and approving from his place in the afterlife!
Hi Tyler I hope some how maybe you could keep the L S it seems to really help with your farming, you always have great ideas, cali does enjoy her running great dog.! Have you seen anymore snakes in your fields be careful! Pigs are happy,I guess the calves will get over missing mom part of farming.well take care from Ontario🇨🇦
I used to get bulk feed like that, I didn't have a way to move it and regretted it. It did last for a long time. Havent found a local feed company yet that does it like that, now that I have a way to move one. Lol. It saved a lot getting bulk feed.
Must of the bulk bags have spout on the bottom that has two ropes that you loosen the first one to open up to expose the second spout with another rope to let the feed out and you can regulate the flow or stop it Good luck finding something a pig won’t tear up
Hows your leg doing? Im sure you have a nasty bruise. Im sure your going to love the bulk feed for the pigs. Thanks for sharing the journey once again 😊
You can get a bulk bag dispenser/discharge. It's a valve apparatus that inserts into the bottom of the bulk bag and you can just lift the bag up over your feeder and open the valve. When you're done, close it and store the bag for next time. Bulk fees is definitely the way to go
Another great video FT! You really saved on the bulk feed for the pigs!! 🐖 That’s awesome especially in this day & age! Any way you can save is a blessing 🙏🏻 take care and we will see you next time 😉
Hi Tyler, thanks for sharing, fantastic videography. We had feed bunks at our farm like you, but we had weights on top of lids, the rodents sneak under the lids. Best regards, Annie
Has Cali rode in the buddy seat in the LS? For the feed, you could look at a bulk seed box with a center valve. Or with your metal bulk bins, you can install a side discharge door and slide similar to the gravity wagons. Thanks for the video.
Attention, Tyler farms … Tim from Canada. I am not sure what they are called or if I know you can still get them in the USA they are.. a spike that goes in the bottom of your large bags and it opens and closes when you need to get out your green you said it on the ground and you maneuver the bag over top of this giant spike and lower the bag on top of it. It goes in the bag seals itself, and then with your front and loader when you left this up, you move the bag over top of wherever you want your green to come out and it opens and closes like a trap door. I know you can get them online and there is a website, but I’m not sure what they are called.. I am sure if you want on Google and put in green bag spike or something like that it would give you some sort of reference I know they make them and they have seen commercials for them. I just don’t know the name of them.
Mood flaps from Napa will do good for the flaps and find you a cheap grain auger to set up to fill it or put a boom on the loader so you can reach over and pick the feeder out of the pin to fill it

I have 2 adult teenagers, it’s basically a rough process no matter how you do it 🤷♀️
It's also the same in humans, you do not keep a toddler on breast feeding forever...Unless your nuts, NOR does it meet nutrients needs.
Only millinials cause they wish they could nurse off they momma forever as well

Hi Tyler I came over from Chads today ❤😊
Thanks for sharing farmer Tyler ranch I enjoyed the video
Small conveyor or auger, right over the fence, across and in might work. Should be able to get a functional used one somewhere
Hello. Heard about you from Doss Farms. Looking forward to watching your videos.

It's my pleasure!
The pigs and cattle are all looking good .
The stall mats will work. Sandwich it in some flat bar and sturdy it up.
In case you don't know there is a hole on the bottom of the bulk bags just pull the loop
just use a metal strip as a washer between the flap and screws, it distributes the pressure more evenly and prevents tearing on the corners
Good to see cows didn't tear up any fencing.
Have a great day tomorrow.
Came over from chads channel. Thank you
I appreciate you checking out my channel! Chad is great!

Hi Tyler, great idea with the metal bins for the pig feed. Well done. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰
Check with stone quarries for used conveyer belting for yer pig feeder.
Perfect looks like you built them just for them.
Try truck mud flaps or wide baler/conveyor belts that have woven fibers in the rubber to hold it together.
