Nice. I did the same setup a few years ago. Im also a bass player that plays some keys with Mainstage and have the 12 Step. Dont remember where I picked up the external instrument program change but once I found that, it was a game changer. I dont have the midi mouse, i either use my midi keyboard next/previous keys to go thru patches, or program an unused pedal on the 12 step to go back and forth if Im busy playing bass.
Hi, i also have a 12 step and i’m fiddling with it’s midi capabilities. As you might know, you can send out a program change number from a 12step patch. Can you change the computer patch by changing the 12 step patch with your feet? Like patch 1 on 12 step would activate patch 1 on the mainstage, patch 2 to patch 2... etc. instead of mainstage changing 12 step, it would be 12 step changing mainstage. Thank you for the great video!
Would the 12 step work well to use as a bass drum and hi hat pad controller? Or are the pads not setup to be used as drum pads that can be played quickly and with precision?
Sorry, this was a while ago 😅 I’ll try and describe it! MIDI Mouse -> midi in on MIDI expander 12 Step Expand port -> MIDI Expander 12 Step USB Output -> MacBook
Have you tried to send Program Change messages from the 12Step to hardware Midi synths using the MIDI Expander? I'm trying to do this with mine and a Roland Juno Gi synth but it doesn't work for some reason. I tried first with a "MIDI Mouse like" device sending PC messages directly to the synth and works like a charm. When I tried to do same from the 12Step, it fails. I double checked in the 12Step editor enabling PC but nothing happens. The only thing I can do is play the notes and articulations (send Note on/off and CC) but no PC. I double checked the synth to enable receive PC changes but, as I just said, the synth reacts and change presets when the other "MIDI Mouse like" unit is connected to the MIDI IN of the synth.
@@erikarko Thanks for your fast reply :D Yes I'll checked and the 12Step is sending PC in the right channel, same channel as the other note on/off and CC messages.

Nice! Yeah, program change really changed my life when I discovered it!! :D
Awesome information Erik... Once again you have filled in a lot of blanks I had around getting this to work.
Awesome!! I have a new video on the subject coming out later today :)
@@erikarko Excellent!!!

Hi! Yes! You’ll need a MIDI Mouse or something equivalent to that, but it’s possible! :)
Would the Keith McMillen 12 Step work with Mainstage on iPad?
Absolutely!!

I’ve tried that and it has worked pretty well tbh!
@@erikarko thanks!
Would it be possible to show how the Mac, 12 Step, Expander and Midi Mouse are connected to each other?

MIDI Mouse -> midi in on MIDI expander
12 Step Expand port -> MIDI Expander
12 Step USB Output -> MacBook
@@erikarko Perfect - thanks Erik, appreciate it ❤

Hmm… nope, haven’t tried that :/ Did you check that you were sending the message on the right MIDI-channel?
@@erikarko Thanks for your fast reply :D Yes I'll checked and the 12Step is sending PC in the right channel, same channel as the other note on/off and CC messages.
That’s weird! :/
Cool pedal. Shame you can’t buy it…anywhere.
Check my video with Billy Sheehan from a couple of weeks ago ;)
@@erikarko I saw it. Still can’t buy one anywhere.
@@MikaelLewisify According to Billy, there’s a new version coming! So stay tuned, I guess :)
