He was just ridiculously good live. Better than recorded. Jesus, the whole band. I would give any thing to have been been able to see them live back in the day.
Saw them in 93 at lollapalooza in Rhode Island, insane show we pretty much just went to see them got to see Tool, on the 2nd stage Rage Against the Machine, and Porno for Pyros too but Chains stole the whole show. Primus headlined we ended up leaving shortly after they took the stage
💯 Born in 91’ and didn’t really grasp or hear AIC until I was 17 but man Layne I know will forever be my favorite vocalist all time as long as I’m on this earth, Love Layne Forever Missed! ❤️❤️
You could have the most talented singer in the world cover this song, and yet it still wouldn't come close. Layne's pain and sadness define this song. There's really no word that exists that can describe it.
Layne staley was the best vocalist ever. He just touches you everytime he sings. I feel so much with the songs and him singing. It’s like magical, calming and sad at the same time. It was too amazing for this world
Wild, was just looking for AIC shows from 1993 and absentmindedly clicked on this….low and behold I was at this gig, Screaming Trees opened! Saw Layne at WoM earlier that day. He wasn’t in the best mood then, very tense, but all smiles at the show.
Pretty good chance he was nearing dope sick and waiting, according to Mark Lanegan that was the MO in every country as they couldn't bring with them so before every show they were tense trying to get right. Thankfully he did, cuz sounds like you got to hear an amazing show, this is absolutely one of my favorite renditions of Nutshell, truly epic!
Every time I hear nutshell I cry because it saved my life literally many times .I seen aic 24 times since I was 12 I seen the original lineup in philly a few times , Pittsburg, even my dad enjoyed them snd took me on road trips .
+josbold12 agreed. The unplugged version gives me chills every time. The only thing better about the album version is Jerry's outro solo. Without electric guitar it just isn't the same.
+Uniform Tango 74 the version from when they were in Japan sounds better and has no crowd noise as it's a clean soundboard recording. it used to be on RUclips I guess somebody took it down.
Wow! I never thought I’d find a live version of this song rather than the MTV Unplugged! Thanks for uploading! And hmmm, so this song existed even before the actual release of the EP in 1994...
Kool to see someone with some sense, guy commented on one of their other live performances from end of 93 calling the person who posted a liar and idiot, because it was impossible the performance was prior to the release of JOF. This performance is epic, just saw link below, be awesome if has video.
dos_mas Thanks for the link, great video. Not same show, this show must have been late 93 after they wrote JOF stuff in September, so Nutshell not on video. Either way, it’s a great concert video, thx again.
Great question. I often feel extremely saddened that there's not a ton of video of Layne, makes me feel cheated since you see so much of celebrities these days. BUT also I am extremely grateful for what we do have of Layne and I cherish every video, song, interview, story, photo and any glimpse of him that we do have.
Makes me miss my old life I feel like I don’t have one anymore. I drink to suppress the bs I gotta deal with sometimes I can’t take it. Just found this song today and makes me feel like I can but I can’t. I miss how my old life was I miss my brother and my mom.
The beginning of Dirt tour we had Iron Gland/Dam that River as a start and Angry Chair/Man in the Box for the ending, by the end we had Nutshell and Rooster with the clip intro filling those spots, i wished we had more footage avaliable from that tour
Super love for this version! just something SO special about Layne's crisp vocals & the timing is just perfect. To say Layne's a one of a kind is an understatement. He is missed more than words can express 🌞🌕✨
I give everything to have a chance to help him, to save his live. Im to a heroine addict for 18 years and i feel his pain. Thanks God i make progress last 5 months, Getting of methadone right now on a small dose! Imagine if he been alive how many more beutiful music the band has been produce!

Definetly Layne is in another level of singing...

Before the EP they performed 2 songs a lot usually opening with Nutshell and closing with Rotten Apple both from the Jar of Flies EP
layne and jerry both ON POINT here!
Should we be sad that there are hardly any live recordings of Nutshell with Layne, or happy that a few of them exist out there?
the fact that its rare makes you appreciate it more
The Unplugged version is hard to watch because he seemed in so much pain. I too, wish we had more visuals of this song being performed but...
