Turns out my current ones are still hanging on, just by being on the porch. We will see if they make it thru these cold days. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
The cold snap in December took my Boston fern, I’m so hurt by this, it was four years old and huge, the large I’ve ever seen. Ill be starting over with a new one!
At what temperature should they be brought inside for the night? 40s....50s? I'm finding contradicting information online. We are still having some cold nights here.
Hi, your ferns are beautiful! However, how do you manage the drainage from your self watering planters? I have the Tierra Verde Sonata planters, much like the ones that you have and they tend to drain duty water all over my porch when I water my ferns. It does not appear that my ferns like to be watered every three days or so. So, I'm having to water them everyday lightly. Thanks!
@@rockfishfarm3185 Thanks for your response! Do you allow excess water to drain from your planter or do you use the pug to contain the excess water (if your planter comes with a plug)? Thanks!
Hi! Im a beginner! After mixing the 4 tblspoons per gallon of bug spray… about how much of the gallon do you use per fern? Is it a light mist of the leaves or are you saturating with it? Are you putting any in the root system?
I do all in the root system, at the base of the plant. In beginning of the season I do about half a gallon per fern. Towards end of the season when they're huge sometimes I'll do whole gallon per fern.
Great tips , you should really check out how to over winter your ferns as they come back every just as big and beautiful no need to throw them away 🙂

Oh no! I bet that was big and beautiful! Well, now you’ll be able to nurture another fern baby :)
@@rockfishfarm3185 I always look at a garden loss as a opportunity to add something new!
That’s right!!
Do you have them in just under porch get partial sun?
what should I put in the bottom of my pots?! what layers do you use?
where do you get the organic gem liquid fish fertilizer?
Have you had any rotten roots on those planters?
No. They do really well.

When temperatures drop below 40 degrees.
Can you link the self watering pots

With a self watering container you won't need to water that often. I water about once a week during hot summer weather.

@@raggs2912 I use the plug, but watch..... If it rains a lot and gets full, I drain them

@@rockfishfarm3185 thank you! I surely would have just sprayed the bug spray on the leaves.. glad I waited lol
@@alethomas8496 bug spray goes on the leaves, yes. I'm sorry. I thought you were referring to the fertilizer.
Can I keep them outdoors all year long in zone 7?
No, you cannot. I just get new each year
Hi, what is it you use to keep the bugs from stripping the leaves. I have that problem every year! Thank you
Captain Jack's dead bug brew
Do you use the moon cycles to plant?
No
sorry am a little confused. Do you mix 1 tbl spoon of fertilizer with half a gallon of water and then apply all of it once a week?
I go by the bottle, but I believe it's one tablespoon to a gallon and yes, during summer I give each fern a gallon.
