Reality suggest there is no possible way the Leafs can sign both players.
They have just under 19 million in cap space.
16 of 23 roster spots secured
This will be Tanevs last contact (he's going to want decent money).
Zadorov will easily get 5 plus million per season from someone.
You still have Domi, Bert (what are they worth)?
Definitely need another goalie with Woll's durability issues.

The part you didn’t discuss is that if the Leaf’s sign Tanev plus one of the other D-men they are chasing, and if they keep Marner, then who goes other than Lilligren? I haven’t crunched the numbers but I with 2 relatively pricey D-men and Marner, I don’t see how they could afford to even keep one of Bertuzi or Domi - and they need at least one of them.

Marner, Tavares, Matthews, Nylander, and Reilly all have a NMC. Realistically, the only way you’ll get rid of Tavares is to wait until his contract expires, and Marner will only go when his expires or if by the graces of him and his neck breathing father, waive his NMC. The chances of that are next to zero though.

Tanev is a solid D option, but my hope is 4 years tops. I know it's likely 7 years, but that's going to be an anchor after 4 years (unless he ends up on LTIR). Regarding Liljegren, he's had plenty of opportunities to stand out and really hasn't done it. He's not bad, just doesn't live up to the 1st round pick expectations. Seems to be a depth defenseman (5.6) at best.
