    Loving all of your videos and ingenious solutions to small-shop problems.
    All the folding vise needs now is some kind of retention system for the star knobs, so they can be left in the vise board when in the folded-down/ stored position.

    Very nice. I'll have to give it a go too. One thing I'd suggest though is that when you drill into the bench top for the threaded inserts I would drill all the way through. It would make it easier to clean out sawdust and debris by letting it fall through.

  • @NMranchhand
    @NMranchhand 2 года назад

    Well, this is a darn clever idea! And, I’ll use it, by golly. If the bench had dog holes or t-track it would be even faster to secure the vice and get rid of it. Still, really brilliant, thanks.

  • @MRrwmac

    Good idea and video. I did something similar for both my Bose and my 2 wheel grinder. I didn’t make the slide though. I put the vise on wood as you did and also my grinder on another. I lined up four holes the same in both the wood bases. Then inserted four threaded inserts into my workbench. Also used knob bolts. Just place whichever I want on the table screw it in and wala, secured!

Have you used it with a 2 pound shop hammer to flatten any steel round stock? Just wanted to know if you put it through what a shop vice would go through.

      @@ISIMPLYBUILTIT Further to that, it might be an idea to have a couple of nut inserts on the underside of the bench which you could screw the stowed bolts into, this would take the strain away from the hinges too.

I have a question...Are you concerned with the weight of the vise as it is stored under the bench hanging? I was wondering if its weight might possible be too much for the hinges to hold it. Thank you and also thank you for allowing us to subscribe to your channel! Bless you sir!

    • @ISIMPLYBUILTIT
      @ISIMPLYBUILTIT  6 лет назад

      Thank you man. No i was not really concerned. Because the screws are loaded on shear and not on traction. That means the weight will be hold by the screws and not by the wood. And such a screw in plywood holds more as we think. To mount the whole construction under the table top, i used many screws. By the way, the vise weighs 13 kg.
