The Honda Civic Type R is a series of high-performance hatchback/sedan models based on the Civic, developed and produced by Honda since September 1997. The first Civic Type R was the third model to receive Honda's Type R badge (after the NSX and Integra). Type R versions of the Civic typically feature a lightened and stiffened body, specially tuned engine, and upgraded brakes and chassis, and are offered only in five- or six-speed manual transmission. Like every other Type R models, red is used in the Honda badge background to give it a special sporting distinction and to separate it from other models.
The sixth-generation Civic Type R was introduced on July 20, 2022. Designated under the model code FL5, it will be built in Yorii, Saitama, Japan, where the regular Civic liftback for the Japanese market is also built.
The FL5 Civic Type R is considered to be less aggressive in design compared to its predecessor with less prominent decorative vents and smaller air outlets. It uses a smaller 19-inch wheels compared to the previous generation which had 20-inch wheels, although the contact patch is wider due to the usage of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres with 265/30-profile (previously 245/30). Equipped with widened fenders like its predecessor, the FL5 model in contrast gained widened rear doors and rear quarters instead of using a plastic add-on to achieve wider rear fenders.
In the interior, the model is equipped with semi-bucket seats, red carpeting and floor mats, and specific interface for the instrument panel screen and infotainment screen which included the Honda LogR data logger to store data such as lap times.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is carried over from the previous generation with incremental changes such as a revised turbocharger that features a more compact housing to improve the overall unit efficiency. The turbine itself has had both its blade count and shape optimised to boost power and improve airflow.
In March 2022, the pre-production model broke the Suzuka Circuit lap record for front-wheel-drive cars with a lap time of 2:23.120

thats why my japanese cars must be BUILT in japan. it makes a difference when the hands that build it are japanese. they pay attention to every detail, i trust them completely. so glad the type r production was taken from the USA. this iconic beauty had to be built at home.
The bumper guy doesn't pay attention to carefully align parts to avoid scratches a 4:10 and 4:35

@@lamesamelame I somewhat agree with you there, but when they produced the 8th gen accord (euro) the honda reliability was back, why? Because all of them where made in Japan, by the people who know how to build cars. Any honda that's assembled anywhere other than their home factory was never as good, especially in the American Market.
This plant uses more robots to put the 2023 Type-R together, thus the quality would be more consistent and less dependent on the human skills and diligence.

It's always so nice to see how much of perfectionist the Japanese people are. From the beginning of the samurai era they are still masters of their craft. Compared to American made cars, many don't care about how anything is assembled. Even my 2022 Subaru built in America and has so many factory defects and many of the pieces don't even fit right. Making the car body panels look as if the car had been in an accident before.

100% agree. I leased 4 Mazda all made in Japan never had any body panel /alignment issues. Then I went to check out Honda Civic that are being made in America every single one had some kind of issue. And the dealer was convincing me to buy one with that defect. Heck no

Je vais donc devoir la garder quelques temps, sinon j'aurais clairement opté pour la même que toi. Mais je regrette pas, je l'adore. Je te souhaite beaucoup de plaisir avec ta nouvelle Honda.

The last 3 type r models were built in Swindon UK . Super quality built cars . Japan need to keep the same quality. Beautiful cars
Purchased a Swindon built Honda Jazz new (2014). Whilst the reliability is there, the Swindon paint job was absolutely dreadful with paint literally flaking off with so many areas just not painted properly. I don't think a car manufactured in Japan would be allowed to leave the factory like that as they have greater pride in what they do.
@@richardmarsh1332 My dad owns a 1992 Civic. Despite being subjected to the weather conditions over the last 20 years, the paint job deteriorated only over the last years. Made in Japan!
