Fascinating bit of history, thanks for sharing it.
Hi Kathryn, a pleasure to share. Glad you found it interesting. All the best there. Mark.
What an amazing place Mark. Thanks for sharing that mate.
I enjoyed your conversation with Tee Campez too, reminded me of my childhood. We were like a tribe of Denis the Menaces. Great times!
Al
Hi there Al, great to hear from you mate and another Dennis the Menace...good comparison. They were great days weren't they...we certainly didn't get bored. I'm sure they are still out there. Glad you enjoyed it Al. Have a great week. Mark.
Great Britain there's so much history around us loved this video I find myself also now reflecting on places we used to play when we where youngens and wondering about the people who used to go about these places thanks for sharing and keep these videos coming cheers
Hi there John, thanks for that. Appreciated. Yeah they are great places to explore and meant a lot to us all not always because of history although now we appreciate that. Until next time all the best. Mark.
Wye Explorer Hi Mark I've just watched this video again it's great viewing I love history as it's factual and interesting are there any more buildings like that in the area we have a disused railway line which has some fantastic bridges and buildings along its route check it out it's Alnwick Station which is now a great second hand book shop the railway line then goes up to kirknewton I have a plan to walk and camp this for 2017 but will have to do it in stages
John Shiel It's a good one John...I am hugely grateful for you returning. Paul and I used to play here. It was a great place to be wild...have a good weekend. Mark.
What a great vid man. My friends and I used to run about this place 20 years ago. At 11.22 you can see my tag on the wall, I was such a pratt back then. Most of it has been leveled now.
Hey Seb. Yeah we were there to many years before but had the same pratty fun. I know it's been redeveloped. They've done a pretty good job. Thanks for watching. Mark
Very well made video with a great history Mark, a pleasure to get to see this! Mother Nature takes these old places back if given time. I like to revisit places from my youth to be a witness to the passing of time, we raised a bit of hell ourselves. When I was born in 1953 the world population was roughly 2,681,000 and in 2015 it was 7,215,000! One has to wonder how things will be in another 63 years? Take care, Ossie
Hi Ossie, thanks for commenting and dropping y. Your right mother nature sure does claim these things back and doesn't discriminate whilst doing it either. Wow, the population was a lot less back then. I hope we can find a way and indeed hope the kids can have as much fun as we did in the face of it all. Well, see you again Ossie. Thanks again. Mark.
That was an exceptional film/documentary brilliantly edited and shot. I get a similar vibe from the old mines and quarries I used to vanda.....play in, we're roughly the same age, I think nostalgia is catching up with us :)
Hi there rhialobran, great to hear from you. Yeah we do love them old places we got lost in...as I said there are signs we were there. It was an awesome factory, which we knew nothing about when young. The mines sound far out....I think I would have had similar fun. 48 now but not counting. Have a great weekend. Mark.
Mark, a great bit of reminiscing and a fascinating piece of history on your doorstep with some excellent research to add to your film. Excellent bit of exploring :-)
Evening Gerry, great you could watch this one. I guess we all have a place we remember whilst growing up and this is one of them. It was a huge place in its day and as you say historic. It contributed a lot to the war effort. Well, have a good weekend Gerry my friend and be well. All the best. Mark.
Looking at the map, that site must have covered everything that's now under the industrial estate - 27 miles of railway shows the size of it ! Amazing that it's only now going to be flattened - your vid is a last record... also surprising just how close this is to Hereford, other UK ammo sites like Pontrilas (as you mentioned) are miles from population centres. Nice tour Mark. Thanks for the effort you put in.
Alright there Dave...hope your well mate. Yeah a record is a good. There is a project to record it but the photographic record is lacking. I think I've done a better job. It sure is close - just across the river and as i said it was bombed once killing 22 people. Thanks for the comment Dave...it's appreciated as always. I'll catch you up at some point soon. Til then Dave all the best. Mark.
Brilliant Mark. Would love to have a look at that place. I can hear those voices from here. Also maybe a little rave music and partying going on somewhere too. Amazing its not a housing estate already ( lot of them built on toxic sites) . Glad you have on camera while it is still here... not least on an RX100 - even better. You must have some memories flooding back whilst having a brew so chilled out with the BCB stove! Trust you to find the old loo.. for a minute I thought you were going to roll out the sleeping bag. Sadly I suspect many of those munitions workers didn't get chocolate at work nor at home. Looking forward to getting out again soon as the cabin fever creeping on again! Thanks for the journey as ever. Stephen.
Hi there Stephen, I thought of you when I published this and I was set to share it with you but you found it any how. Glad you did and happy you like it. Yeah it's been a place of a lot of laddish play and some small gatherings. It will be sad to see it go if they knock it down, which may not happen because they want to renovate as a museum. Had to have a brew and flow through some memories.....it's a cool place to just kick back a little whilst looking at Loo lids, which I've salvaged. Had to be done. No chocolate for the workers...they were hard girls. Well, look forward to you getting out - I'm sure it's going to be interesting. Until next time Stephen mate take good care. All the best. Mark.
Thank you for the tour Mark. EOD/IEDD were some of my duties as a Clearance Diver. Did some time in DCIEM (now DRDC) with some of your Royal Navy Clearance Divers back in the day when we did experimental diving. It must have been a blast (pardon the pun) to hang out there as a kid, mucking about and being rambunctious. Great vid.
Hi there Michael mate thanks for the great comment....interesting life in the diving and no doubt satisfying a lot of the time and possibly dangerous.Do you still dive? As far as being a kid was concerned your right it was a blast a bit like a Dennis the Menace as my mate Al at 'Knucker' says. Funny that 'blast was a word my dad used and he to worked with explosives....Any way, have a great week there Michael and all the best. Mark.
I seem to be watching these videos in a random order, thanks for the ammo factory tour. I always feel a bit sad when these buildings are left to decay, its nice to see they are doing something with the site. ATB
This was left for decades. They're now designing and building a cyber security and security hub linked to the new Hereford University. Of course due to the regiment (SAS) there are a lot of global security companies here. It's this that's inspired the move but we played there for years and them memories will never be gone. Thanks Fazza. All the best. Mark
brilliant video, really interesting place, some history to it
Hey there bro. Thanks for that...it sure is a cool place. Mark.
Excellent video - I liked the history of the place - We used to have a munitions storage place in Oregon from WW1 and they couldnt touch it as the stuff became unstable, so they had to figure out how to clean it and it took several years but it's gone now.
Hi Edward, thanks for the comment and dropping by. This storage facility and factory didn't leave any hazardous or toxic residue behind so it's perfectly safe for me to walk about. Good job because I have loved it there over the years. Good to see you out and about buddy. Take care and be well. Mark.
Excellent my friend! Thanks for nice sharing. My like # 7 :)
Many thanks there. I hope your well...a good rating! Peace. Mark
Fantastic video - great stuff Mark! I love taking a stroll down memory lane. Keep up the stellar work and stay well my friend!
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yeah, it's good to go back to your old haunts. Hope your well. All the best. Mark.
thanks for this one - enjoyed it - makes you think...Rob
Cheers Rob, it's a favorite old spot, which has a few stories. Mark.
What a great place and very nicely captured by you. Fancy the chemicals turning the girls yellow, imagine the compo claims nowadays. Thanks for sharing. Atb Shaun
Hi there Shaun. Thanks for watching this one. It;s been there a long time and is indeed fascinating. Yeah, you can just see the claims rolling in. We've had fun here as lads. Many thanks again. Glad you enjoyed it. All the best. Mark
I bet that was a great place to go as a kid.. right up my street :)
Well, I do actually tell stories in the video of us and our time there as kids. It's a good video worth watching.
cracking video mark, awesome place, love the history of it all, hardly a discreet site for such a high value target though, bet the ground on the site is toxic hence only industrial usage nowadays, wonder what the canery women life expectancy was and health issues were, gets you thinking what it was like working there with that stuff, weather conditions, afraid of dropping something or making a spark, nerves on edge? ,thanks for bringing some wonderful history onto your channel once again, cheers craig
Hi Craig, do you know what I never thought about the stress as such in relation to the explosives but it would have certainly been present. I think Hereford was probably deemed remote in them days being Welsh - English border. Mind you it did get bombed in the second world war. Well, thanks for your comment Craig....an interesting point of view mate. Until next time all the best. Mark.
Excellent video, of a place I never knew existed in them parts. I used to camp not too far from Pontrilas, so was surprised when you said its name. I love the vibes from old structures like that, it makes you wish the walls could talk and release their secret stories of long gone days gone by....fascinating place and history, many thanks for sharing :-)I am off to Devon camping in a couple of days, and then I am hoping, funds allowing, that I can have a venture out your way afterwards, and If it happens, I shall be getting in contact with you for sure if your still up for a bivvy/hike about around the Wye? ATB :-)
Good to hear from you Malc. Interesting to hear you know of Pontrilas and the area. It's one of my favorite parts of the county. There is certainly loads of atmosphere and little bits that echo their voices. Great to hear of Devon Malc....have a fabulous time mate...seek out the most inspirational places and stuff. I'm sure you will. And as for meeting up that would be brilliant. I'd love that. Until then take care and all the best. Mark.
nice one Mark. I've been into a few of those buildings myself.👍
Hi there Adam mate, good to hear from you. Yeah I suspect you've had a good old time. The place was a hit with a fair few of us no doubt. Have a great week. Mark.
A real interesting video Mark, and i can see from what you say that you have some real nice childhood memories of this place. You have to be real careful in some of these old buildings though as many of them are filled with asbestos dust. i wonder who still owns this place and what the future is for it as it's quite a large area ain't it.. Anyway thanks for the share mate, you have a good day there... Carl
Hi there Carl, I certainly have got a great many memories as has my bro Paul. We had a scream over there. I can't see asbestos...a lot of concrete and steel. Safe I think! As for ownership it's owned by the council who purchased it decades ago. Not sure what's happening with it. Well, great to hear from you Carl mate. Until next time. All the best. Mark.
Hello Mark, Good evening my friend very lovely video interesting video love, enjoyed thank you for sharing hugs and warm wishes ❤:-)
Hi there - many thanks for your encouraging words and support. It's a cool place to explore. All the best there. Mark.
Good nights, good afternoons, parties lol. Thank you for a wonderful history lesson Mark of a place that is here in my home city or the outskirts of, but I know so little about. Paul :)
Hi there Paul.....yeah you'd love a walk around Paul and perhaps a brew there. Go on mate take a look around before they knock it down. I've had only good time there. Thanks for the comment. Appreciated. ATB Mark.
+Wye Explorer Hello Mark. I think I just might. Thank you for the inspiration. Happy wandering. Paul :)
Paul Outdoors Hope you do Paul. It's open - a fair few get down there. Mark.
Hi Mark... Interesting stuff mate. Back in my caving days we did some trips down to Box mines and Monkton Farleigh underground ammunition depot, your video reminded me of them. Loved the video, loved the history. Thank you for sharing.
Be safe and be lucky, Wol.
Wow I've just checked out Monkton Farleigh Wol. The place looks awesome mate...a lot if interest and fun there. Yeah this place was large but only this stuff left. Still fascinating. Thanks for letting us know of your adventures Wol. Appreciated. All the best. Mark.
I work in rotherwas and the company I work for we still look after some of these buildings. Not many about on rotherwas now.
Nice one Craig-fancy buildings now too. Re-the old ones - no not many but still some to tell the story. All the best. Mark
Brilliant video, definitely gave me a bit of an education!
Hi J.G. Appreciated very much. There are many stories attached to the place. I recommend a walk about. All the best. Mark
Great video mark you put lots of effort in.
atb dave
Thank you Dave. This was a fun place whilst growing up. We got up to a lot there and its history is pretty interesting. Have a good weekend. Mark.
This is really interesting! Really enjoyed watching! Gonna check out the rest of your videos.. subscribed great channel. ATB. Morten
Hey there Morten, good to hear from you. Thanks for the comment. It was a cool place to hang when young and is now. Thanks for the sub also....I'll pop over and see what you've been up to. Mark.
Good vlog Mark learnt something new. Cheers
Hi Tony, I'm pleased you liked this one and learnt something. I did to making it. All the best. Mark
Really interesting mate!
Cheers there Johnny. Hope your well. Mark.
Fascinating mate, bet you had fun around there as a lad lol. Our gang was the same back in the day, anything abandoned we was in there, those where the days :)
On a more serious note i watched some documentary the other day about the poor folk who worked in those factories, having reactions to the cordite etc.
Hi Terry, I know the kind of play areas mate....I suspect our kind were all over the place seeking out them relics. Good to hear you were one of them. Yeah it was tough work in those factories. Thanks for the comment. Always appreciated. All the best. Mark.
Wye Explorer Indeed Mate, times was different then...I was out all day Catapults,Airguns you name it, would get back home absolutely filthy with a cold supper waiting and angry Mother :)) Great.
Tee Campez You got it spot on there terry. Perhaps a bucket full of newts, a hand full of eggs (wouldn't encourage it now), stories of an angry farmer we've wound up, a bag full of lead, a new den and so much more. Maaan the digital age has a lot to answer to. I hope the kids find there way back to natural play and live life to the full. Nice memory of the mum...our brother and I would shit ourselves on the way back home. Ha ha...
Wye Explorer Lol loved me Newts mate, bet most kids don't even know what one is ? Me and my pal used to be knee deep in the farmers cow pond ( it was full cow mess :( ) we used empty budgie cages as nets, worked a treat they did. Then the tractor would be coming up the hill, used to run our little legs off lol. think we was all scared of the Farmer mate.
Tee Campez Great story that Terry. One of resourcefulness, muck and mischief. Ha ha! Yeah to get our mates in the river it was cow pats. I think us country-urban kids felt most of life when we were dirty and winding the land owners up sneaking about. really enjoying the reminiscence...Mark.
Interesting story, I'll show it to my sons, for one is a professional soldier in our German army and the other has a YT channel with Lost Places, for them it is certainly more interesting to see than for me - thing men ...; - ) :)) Best wishes for you, Angela
That would be great Angela. Any history like this fascinates me. Thanks for watching and your comment. All the best over there. Mark.
Interesting place! Thanks my friend greetings :-)
Hi Phillip - been thinking of you mate. Thanks for the comment. All the best. Mark
Awesome place Huge
Hey there Annie, It's got a vibe. All the best over there. Mark.
👰⭐wow! I wish I was there close up thank you for a very nice video and thanks for sharing God Bless cheers.:-) ☕👍 🌠⭐🌠⭐Big Like!!⭐🌠⭐🌠
I think you would be fascinated by the history Kim. Have a great day my friend. Mark.
Very well presented and a very interesting place. I know the area well as I did my military training at credenhill back in the late 80s. Such a shame it’s been left in this state.
Thanks there. Yeah it is run down but is being re-designed to be the home of a global security college on account of the regiment and the security businesses here. It's unusual that they're based at Credenhill now. You must know Hereford also then....have a great weekend. Mark
@@WyeExplorer that's a shame. I remember doing runs up credenhill and going to the crystal rooms in Hereford....long time ago. Lovely part of the country.
@@thekruzerboys2323 No no the old munitions factory in this video is being redeveloped into a global security college. Credenhill is home to the SAS now. The hills and woods there are good.
rad video thumbs up! subbed!
Hey there Vincent. Good to see you here. Thanks for the comment and sub. Already subbed you mate. Will drop by soon. All the best. Mark.
Fascinating video Mark! I always love seeing the relics of war being overgrown and reclaimed by nature. Did you and Paul ever leave your own bit of graffiti? Thanks for sharing my friend!
Thanks Cynthea. It's good to hear from you. I love to mooch about these relics. I find the window into that world mesmerizing. No, we didn't leave any graf but we left behind plenty of smashed windows. Ha ha! Of course we were young. A pleasure to share. All the best. Mark
just watched your brew in a loo vid and this one, somehow they`re very relaxing, you have a new subscriber,,best wishes

Thank you Mark :))
What's Gabby Cooking Hi Gabby, I was just trying to find your channel but couldn't on Google plus...no link. Any chance of a link?
Is this still here
It's just about there mate. They're developing the whole site. Mark
Is this still hear today, as in the hereford Times its says they knocked down the main big building and where about is this in rotherwas?
Hi Luca, yes it;s still there but they haven't knocked it down. What they've done is renovate it into a new enterprise zone. The old building looks shiny and new now. It's nearer the river - here's a link to a map. The arrow marks the spot streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=352732&Y=238630&A=Y&Z=115 many thanks. Mark
@@WyeExplorer okay thank you
@@lucasinclair2953 A pleasure.
@@lucasinclair2953 there's still old bunkers and blast walls to explore
O wow man great video, what would you have done if you got a little shock at 18:38? Haha. What a cool place.
Hey thanks - glad you enjoyed it. It is an historic gen redeveloped now. What would I have done. It;s likely I would have said, 'oh f..k! All the best. Mark
@@WyeExplorer haha cheers
aye! asbestos warning! great place for exploring..
None there...a safe zone to explore. ATB Mark.
I went there today but didnt find any bomb shelters or dorms,
Can you describe to me where you were and what you saw?
Wye Explorer I saw the huge ww1 one and the little one where u found the bones but idk where the other things u saw was
If you go into the big one from the path and head for the far side of it and out the other end look to your front to a vast open space. Walk towards that space and veer off towards 11 Oclock. In the bush there you will find the bunkers and the big ammunition silos. Hope that helps friend. Mark

Thanks. It's a place with great memories and lots of social history.
Every thing in Britain is a used to be and used to make this , how they pay their way in this world in beyond me , Germany and Japan are still industrial powerhouses with world wide brands , Britain's anarchist Unions and the Labor Parties Fabian welfare state destroyed the manufacturing base , I am amazed that Land Rover Jaguar has risen from the ashes of the civil war the only single survivor of the once mighty British car and coachbuilder industry of the 1960's and Triumph motorcycles another resurrection from a once proud manufacturing nation .
Hey there Bruce, thanks for watching and your thoughts. I think you have some good points. Mind you there is blame for the unions there. If we take a broader view then perhaps we could include the aristocratic and British Industrial elite who would have people as slaves. Now of course people couldn't accept that so there was going to be descent. Living standards had to improve especially considering the obvious differentials. So their lavish ways and greed can be said to be the route cause of industrial disintegration. Having said this they now rely on the financial and service sectors, which isn't ideal in that there to is an elite. I think shifting economies have huge stories to tell and it's all classes are entwined I feel. All the best. Mark.
