    Without the ultimate sacrifice of these soldiers during the first landing … the rest of the operation would not have had the same success.

    The photograph titled “Into The Jaws Of Death” shows what many confronted that day. But the picture of the Normandy Invasion looked much different by the end of the day on June 6, 1944.

    The fighting was also far from over … the beaches only served as the first sight of a months-long campaign.
