When we were kids, my sister and I would wake up early to watch the MYX Daily Top 10 on our old, bulky Changhong TV. We’d sing along to our favorite songs-sometimes with a bit of drool still on our lips, hahaha! I miss the thrill of the countdown, the joy of seeing our favorite songs climb the charts, and the disappointment when they slipped down. We even turned it into a guessing game.
I remember singing along to ‘Fearless,’ not really understanding the lyrics, but feeling ecstatic and knowing we loved the song. Popular tracks from the Fearless album like ‘White Horse,’ ‘Love Story,’ and ‘You Belong With Me’ premiered on the show, and we eagerly watched every time.
Another fond memory is our family's love for music. While my father had CDs of Freddie Aguilar, Asin, Eraserheads, Ezra Band, Siakol, April Boy Regino, Willie Revillame, and Air Supply, my mother treasured the Carpenters. My sister had a special CD with all the songs from the original Fearless album, a gift from our father, who bought it at Agdao Public Market (Dabawenyos can relate!). We played that CD endlessly. ‘Today Was A Fairytale’ was one of my favorites back then, and it still is-only now, I understand the lyrics I’m singing.
Right now, aside from Speak Now, I’m also in my Fearless Era. As Taylor Swift once said:
‘Fearless is not the absence of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.’
I need to put my passion into action fearlessly. That’s why I’m covering ‘Fearless’ and soon, many other songs that I listen to or sing every day.
