One late night, I fell down a rabbit hole of Korean movies where people fall in love with ghosts. I watched like 3 hour long "short-movies" with this premise in a row. By the end of it I was so delirious that I thought "having a dead girlfriend would be pretty cool" before then snapping to my senses while brushing my teeth and going "wait, what the hell are you talking about?! Obviously no, idiot."

k-dramas are getting less soapy as time goes on. I tried to brute force my way through Boys Over Flowers and eventually realized I would have to depart from my sanity in order to enjoy it. after that I started belting the theme song and embracing the insane plot. that being said, it took a lot of energy to do that lmao, I watch the more serious or funny ones now.

I used to watch some k-drama on public access college television about 30 years ago. It had the same glow effect Days of our Lives used but like.. the big drama was a daughter who wasn't employed daydreaming about holding hands with some guy who was out of her league and her mom wanting her to work at the family flower shop or something. I don't know why that show has stuck with me.

Tv shows ratings are always skewed most people aren't going to watch 16hrs of something they don't like and aren't going to rate it if dropped it. On the other hand people are more willing to sit through 2 hours of a movie to talk about how bad it was. Niche shows also have higher ratings that their actual quality because it gets famous from word of mouth through shared spaces rather than being marketed so only people with some interest in it already watch it.
