    Melody's hair looks AWESOME! I've never played Kingsburg with the expansion. I'll have to try this new edition.

    Opinions vary, but the new edition while muted, looks less busy to my old eyes. I may just pick it up at some point. Thank you for the thoughtful review.

    I used to own the original, with expansion, a long time ago, but never could get it to the table, and wound up selling it. Wish I held onto it, but this version doesn't look bad overall(although I liked the "colorful" art-style in the original better") and will probably pick it up, and hang onto it this time. Great review you two!

      I have the original base game but don’t get it to the table much - it’s been years. I think compared to other games I and my friends own, the base game is a bit lacking. I really want to get the expansion but it seems I’d have better luck finding the Holy Grail! There aren’t many copies around and they sell for ridiculous prices. So now I’m left debating whether I should just get the second edition which has the base game, the expansion, and even more. But I’m not sold on the new more muted artwork. Adding to the paralysis, there’s been news of a third edition meant to come out this year but I’ve seen nothing concrete.

    If you like Kingsburg then you should as well try Cavern Tavern.
    Cheers!

    The only issues I have with the components are the little discs you place on the buildings board, do not stand out enough. I have bought 25 cubes in each colour to replace them. As far as the gameplay, only the additional place tiles that allow taking goods of players left and right of you did not really work for me, too many times players felt they needed to do this first, not to gain anything, but to avoid others stealing anything, which for me leads to all players doing the least optimal thing. Other than this Kingsburg 2E is fantastic, and a welcome re-issue.

    The first time I played this game was at Meeplecon last year with Sam in a 4 player group. I got slaughtered. It seemed like everyone had the same plan for beginning except me. Also, I felt like I kept preparing for war too much and everyone else was able to skim by without losing the battle. I really enjoyed it though and will look for it in the future.

    I've recently played both(My first real board game play was with the original and I was able to get my hands on the expansion). I LOVE the new dice but my only issue with them is that 2 sets of them look the same to me and a few others that I played with and it was hard to differentiate between the 2. I have yet to play with the second side(Looks really fun). I personally give this version a 9/10 and highly recommend it as well.

    Looks pretty straight forward but I feel like I would still be pushing my luck over the edge with my small casual group. It would be a $98 gamble. For that much money why would the make the paper so thin? I guess board games are just cheap in America where places like Australia luxury items are pricey no matter what.

    One of the few games that I don't really care for. The possibility for get stuck with bad rolls (even with mitigation) then screwed by other players and THEN punished by the game is too much to make it fun for me. The expansion modules might make it more playable, but someone else would have to purchase it for me to give it a try.

      Get the plus 2 chips and kings envoy. Maybe you were in a 5 player? I've played this three or four times and have never felt that way. Usually 4 player games for me.

    My biggest problem with Kingsburg is, and always have been the lack of consequence if you lose to the monster in year 5.
    Otherwise a solid and fun game.

      @svenusling 3 года назад

      @@jessicabellandy5687 In the original version there is 1 out of 5 where you lose a building. 20% chance is worth it not to care. It usually pays off.

    What type of game is this?

    Not sure about the new rotating / changing powers of the nobles. Try to teach newer players about the strategies to have stuff change out on them. Also, for 'gamers' that want a little more strategy you take a game full of random dice rolls where you try to make the best choices for your rolls to add some chaos in because someone removed the power you really need last turn. Its a small thing and can always be left out but just seems out of place in this game imo.

    I have played this quite a few times (the original I mean), but the dice are just too random and can really screw you over and if you get a bad roll a few times too many, you cannot win the game... Unless the other people really messed something up big time. It is, but the resource gathering dice is just not a cool way. It looks like a nice mechanic, but it is just too random. Just the sheer number or resources people get during a game can vary quite a lot... And in a competitive game that is not good. There is no catch up in this one either. And some of the combat penalties are quite harsh. The dice roll can ruin your game. You have just spent 2 years gathering resources for a big end game building and then screw up on the combat and your game is over... That is not a very nice mechanic.

    Agree Tom , the Dice are too much and even though I have the original with the expansion and I would buy this is the art were better. Just too ugly to me to justify this one. Great game though for those who don't have it.
