Thanks Peter as usual many wise words. Personally, I prefer older rods with an action that suits me. As you say, the newer rods add nothing to the cast. but many people believe that expensive rods cast better. But nothing throws better than the one holding the rod.
Actually, many of the newer rods are significantly improved over ten or twenty year old rods. The NRX+ rods have to be cast to be appreciated. About ten years ago I sold a favourite rod to one of my buddies as I had changed pro staff and couldn't fish the brand anymore. I always remembered how light and powerful that rod felt to me. Fast forward to a while back and I cast that rod again - it felt like a club compared to what I am using now. I couldn't believe how heavy it was to cast. It was light compared to other rods at the time, but not now. Most of my issues are more directed toward the online fan clubs of various types of rods and lines. These fan clubs are the real problem as they pump their favourite products without any regard to how well these products might or might not suit other peoples' requirements..
This is exactly the reason why I dislike fly fishing forums. Too often they become echo chambers where people are just praising whatever is fashionable at the time.

What’s a good spot to go after some walleye in the Grand during the early season here?
The Caledonia area would be a good place to start. Just look for deeper water.
Oak orchard not old orchard lol
Brain was thinking "Oak" mouth said "Old".
@@hooked4lifeca I know, it's happened to me before referring to the same river
