- This video outlines the ten main ways that I believe having a casual position is better than working full-time. It's part of my "Why I don't" series and it's not meant to tell anyone else what to do, so try not to take it too personally, if you don't agree with what I say.

Sadly... In order to get a mortgage I had to prove my monthly income. I had to get a mortgage to keep my cat as a lot of rental places don't allow pets. Yes. I bought a house for my cat 😂🙈
This comment is everything!
I would do the same tbh!!!
Sad
I am thinking of renting my own place just so I can get benefits ☠️
Hi, I am I nurse and I plan to quit my full time and life by casual job by the end of this year. Thank you for your video
That’s so exciting! I wish you the very best!
Everyone should have the opportunity to live like this.
I agree. If only.
Happy & Authentic time is our most valuable resource.
@@happyandauthentic I agree too having to work a full time job is pure hell.
# Males too
Yessss! I agree. It would be nice if I could. 💯💯💯🥰
Part time always worked best for me !
It’s a pretty good deal :)
On the verge of quitting my full time job. I’ve been applying at other places but I’ll take a part time job if need be. My happiness is tantamount to a job. Thankfully i am married and we aren’t struggling (also don’t have kids, which makes flexibility easier) and I have saved a lot. If things get desperate enough, I might downgrade sooner rather than later.
I hope you find a job that makes you happier. Money isn't everything. :)
I absolutely love this video. Everything you said sounds exactly like me… I don’t work full time but I’m in my field and loving every moment of it.
I don’t get calls every day, but it’s ok because if gives me time to rest, cook, clean, run other errands, spend time with family or friends. I just love the flexibility.
You definitely have to budget to make it work, but it’s Sooo worth it when it’s your vision. Again, GREAT VIDEO! 😊
I'm so glad to hear you're happy in your situation! I would love it if more people chose their passion over working full-time just for the money.
I am Mexican. Like you I had the privilege of getting an education as a lawyer free. At 21 I got a mortgage that I paid for many years ago. I was also lucky to live in a city where transportation is readily available though I had a car, I didn't need it.
It sounds like you’ve led a blessed life. ^_^
I enjoy watching your videos. You are soo cool and honest. Great job!
That's so nice of you to share with me, Angel! It's always a pleasure to hear how you feel about my content. It's scary to put yourself out there, not knowing if people will get upset with what you've said. Comments like yours give me courage and hope to continue. ^_^ Thank you so much for that!
Your experience is very relatable to mine and I’m actually taking a leave from my current teaching position so that I can take my life back. I will likely substitute teach when I am ready
I wish you the best of luck! I find subbing to be extremely rewarding!
Thank you for this video. I'm feeling very lost with my current life situation. I am from the USA and graduated college in a major I hated. It was my only path/escape out of the school, and I couldn't waste my free ride merit scholarship. I went to a lower tiered school to avoid crippling loans. I had amazing grades and I worked my butt off. Like you, I was able to graduate both without student loan debt and with a healthy amount of savings I have built up by working through college. However, I am at a crossroads. I've applied to over 300 jobs (all corporate environment) and even had an offer rescinded during the economic downturn in June 2022. The job market is so tough for recent grads in the USA. I'm so burned out.
Three weeks ago, I started an in-office 9 to 5 in the finance department of a major hotel chain and I absolutely hated it. 9 to 5 is really 8 to 6. It made me so miserable, I dreaded going in to work everyday. The software was from the 1980's and the computers were only a few years younger than me. My bosses didn't give me the time of day and there was no training provided. Nobody would even say hi to me in the mornings, I had to force every conversation. Needless to say, I miss my restaurant jobs from college so badly. The social environment, physical exercise on the clock, interacting with diverse people from all over the world, flexible work hours, being part of a team. Being around a bunch of 20 somethings like me is something I miss while working in an older office environment. I actually enjoyed my day at those restaurant jobs, and even if I had a bad shift, I got my steps in and interacted with humanity. In contrast, I was miserable at my 9 to 5. I barely had time for myself before and after work. The commute ate up 3 hours per day, and traffic is only getting worse going into the fall. I stared at a computer for 9 hours per day and barely got to interact with anyone. I was losing my physical and mental health. My head hurt daily and my soul was being drained. Finally, last week, I called it quits. It was a really hard decision for me, with lots weighing pros and cons. I'm now re-evaluating my goals and life plans. I don't have anything tying me to a job, like loans. I can’t see myself working corporate the rest of my life.
I am so lost because my family is disappointed in me and I feel like a loser for being unable to stick with a 9 to 5. "You're shooting yourself in the foot" and "You just wasted an amazing opportunity with so much benefits, you could have worked your way up the ladder," my aunt and grandma said. What ladder? I couldn't envision any sort of future I wasn't miserable in working there. I guess I'm lucky I don't need a job immediately, but I still feel so uncomfortable with the uncertainty and social pressure. I feel like a lazy loser. I don't know where to go or what to do. I very much feel like an old soul, and do not feel attached to material things. I lead a simple life and desire fulfilling connections and purpose above money and "success" defined by society's standards. I'm currently able to pick up shifts at one of my old jobs, but it isn't enough stimulation for me. I want to feel productive. I'm a very creative person and used to be a photographer, make music as well as write fiction and poetry but through the years my talents were suppressed in order to excel in school. My heart has been calling me to move out of state for many years but due to college I was never able to. Now that I can, I have a boyfriend I'm afraid to say goodbye to and I'm living at my father's unsure of how to start the moving process given my job situation and lack of connections out of state. I feel like a shell of myself.
Any advice would be appreciated.
CC, I'm so sorry to hear you feel lost. I don't think you're a loser and you certainly don't sound lazy. I can understand exactly how it feels to desire a stimulating and fulfilling work environment. A lot of the higher paying positions tend to be the opposite of that. Personally, I believe that if you can find a job you enjoy (like when you were in college) that will sustain you long enough to help you find something you can see yourself being fulfilled in - that's a win. Let's say for example, you wait tables and live in a share house with other people your age and in the meantime you create art or write books. Perhaps one of those avenues will result in a healthy amount of money that will then allow you to move out of state. Or living with family (however negative their outlook may be) might give you enough support to allow you to start an online business. Whatever appeals to you at the time can be what provides you with money at the time. You don't have to find the ONE job that will sustain you forever. I have made money painting murals in children's bedrooms, and then when that started to get too routine, I moved on to tutoring, from that to youtube, then coaching, teaching and I'm always growing and changing. Life has so much to offer that you can grow and change with it and always stay fulfilled as your personalities .
Love this video! I am so delighted to find out you're in education in Australia! I am an educator and youth worker, and I am hoping to transition into part time work as I am finding I burn out and have no time or energy for anything else in my life. I am wanting to explore creating multiple streams of income (active and passive) and want the freedom to create and have time for me and the relationships in my life. Every point you made resonated with me! Thank you and instant subscriber!
I’m so glad to hear your input, Alyce! It’s easy to get burnt out as an educator, for sure. I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on your decision to switch to part time.
I really hope I can just work part time once I graduate school (undergrad), I’d love to have the time to explore different passions and have about a month or two where I can go on a long trip too! Thanks for the video!!
I hope you can manage it as well, Nadia. It’s a fantastic way to live!
@@happyandauthentic thinking about having to work a full-time job again is making me feel suicidal there feels like there's no hope.
That’s awful! No one should have to feel that way. :(
@@happyandauthentic unfortunately the reality of life is that we are expected to suck it up and conform if we don't meaning having to have a job and be a slave just to live id rather die.
I don't know if the video applies to recent college grads. Honestly today's society seem to be set that it's really unfriendly to young adults who just want to live.
Insurance, Mortgage, Medical, Internet bills etc... Freelance has it's perks but there is a benefit to be stable.
You might be right, Isaac. Depends on what country you’re in too. I live in Australia, so I don’t need medical insurance and I rent so no mortgage. I don’t believe insurance is useful for someone in my particular position (no kids or dependents), so it’s easier to manage. I wish you the best of luck in your situation.
Hello there, thank you for your video, I totally understand you, I feel so much better working On my own, doing the things I Like and invest in Wellness. Living a better Life out of the system. ♥️🌷🌿
That’s wonderful! I’m glad you feel that way. :)
You are lucky to have parents like that. Lots of options.
I agree. I was 100% very lucky. My parents helped me so much in life. Even though they weren’t rich and didn’t have much themselves, they worked hard and gave it all to their children.
This is my plan I am a qualified beautician I only want a part-time job as a backup a d do my own freelance stuff on the side
I could make more than I do now by substitute teaching, but as an American, I'm afraid to be in a school building for an extended period of time.
I don't blame you. We have had some school shootings ourselves here in Australia lately, but not nearly as often and as badly as in the US. I hope you stay safe.
Great life & mindset
Thanks!
Struggling with severe job anxiety and fear of job interviews. Just had a company call me for a job interview and when I emailed them about it, they email me that they never made an interview appointment with me. I feel so gaslit all the time. So I am going to combine benefits with a side hustle.
I'm sorry that happened to you. Many companies don't respect the time and emotional state of their workers or even prospective workers. I hope you find one that treats you with more respect. Best of luck with your search.
I'm planning to go part-time due to burnout, but it means I have to purchase medical insurance. Here in the US, medical care is very expensive if you have paying for your insurance.
That always sounded so unfair to me. I'm sorry to hear that. In Australia you can get reasonable health insurance for $10 a week per person. What are the prices like in America when you go the private route?
Do you have health care? In the U.S. many of us have to work to get health insurance.
Like I said, I'm a bit privileged. I live in Australia and over here health care is free. I really feel for Americans. The system isn't made to allow for much freedom, despite them calling themselves the Land of the Free. :(
Happy & Authentic do you get dental coverage free as well?
No, that’s not free. But when we save so much on other things, it’s easier to save up for dental.
Not a fan of working a full time job grind it can be very stressful sometimes. I prefer a part time or working for myself yes you get health care and maybe a good retirement working full time I am from the USA. Theres also the guarantee a person wont make it for that retirement money later on. I wish some part time jobs would offer health care and benefits at the moment. I am looking for different streams of income to make money.
Is your Greek degree recognised in Australia? Or did you have to get it to Australian standards.
It was mostly recognised, but I had to do a tiny amount of work that took a year to complete.
I can't work any more as I have sight issues. But if i regain my site may work a bit. 2more yrs for pension. Yes didn't pay for higher education. If now it would go for £70000 I don't want a debt.
It’s such a shame you struggle with your sight. And yeah, I can’t understand why higher education is so unaffordable in some countries. Very sad.
Substitute Teacher in Chicago. A measly $120/day and no healthcare.
It’s very sad to hear about countries that don’t value their substitute teachers.
@@happyandauthentic indeed. I won't stay here forever
You look a lot like me when I was in my 20s..😀
Maybe we’re each other’s doppelgänger! ^_^
I think I could get the high rate like you suggested.
I hope so! Did you give it a shot?
I'm also a sub but we don't make enough to pay the bills. I hate that we are underpaid for doing the same thing as a regular teacher practically. What l do hate is always looking for a new side job ebrtyy summer in the U.S.
I acknowledge that in America subs aren’t paid enough to survive without a side hustle. Here it’s different. So I’m definitely privileged. I hope you do well finding something this coming summer.
Los Angeles subs make $202 a day so we can make a living off if it. Love it
Are you living in Australia?
That’s right :)
Cool! I remember when you were living in Greece. Can you say what city in Australia?
You are just like me expect without the parents loving support
Aww I’m so sorry to hear that.
@@happyandauthentic it's ok I have my true father's support, Jesus christ, yeah full time work is very hard, need to live your life
