    After the 1.04 update Dragon Communion Seal got a nerf to its arcane scaling and status buildup from the arcane scaling (new catalyst calc linked to my dual wield staff guide). It is no longer as OP, but still a very strong seal especially at low levels of investment. This remains the strongest hybrid catalyst at lower levels of investment!

Death Lightning is surprisingly good at close range assuming you don't get knocked out before your animation pops off and don't mind the lightning landing in slightly RNG'd places near you. Lightning spear is probably a staple for low mana spell and good for sniping. Avoid Vyke's Dragonbolt (the buff). Lightning armament is not buffed by the seal. Hey there, I noticed that you didn’t discuss the fact that if you two-hand the Clawmark Seal apparently it’ll boost the damage of spells you use with it. I know that it really doesn’t have to do with incant scaling, but that may be something a Str/Fth build considers if choosing between the Clawmark Seal or other seals. That aside though, this video was really helpful and I can’t wait to see more informative ER stuff from you soon!

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 года назад +113

      actually just had this comment a few hours before you so I'll post the reply here.
      Two-handing a clawmark seal is mostly a bad idea because you can do Cinquedea + clawmark seal which would boost bestial incantations by 20% instead of 10%, giving you % increase vs 2 handing it if you're using bestial incantations. You also lose a weapon art, which for the most part, is a very powerful tool. Better off dual wielding seals than 2handing a clawmark.
      Besides, claw mark seal hits a major softcap at 45 str, so your gains after that is minimal.

    • @siruseless6650
      @siruseless6650 2 года назад +18

      @@Chrightt Ah, thanks for the response man! You are definitely right about losing out on a ash of war skill when two handing the Clawmark Seal, even with the neat 20% increase to beastial incantations. Sooner or later I hope to do some testing with what would work best with a Str/Fth build myself and while it sucks that the dedicated sacred chime for those builds isn’t that amazing for it, maybe that might change as weapons, skills, and spell catalysts are balanced throughout the game’s updates.

    • @thesinhound
      @thesinhound 2 года назад +20

      @@Chrightt I was under the impression that the offhand effect was still active when two handing, thus you'd get the benefits of both. You do typically get the passive of your offhand regardless with other equipment.

    • @Zantetsu13
      @Zantetsu13 2 года назад +3

      @@Chrightt I wouldn't say minimal: 2 handing gives you 50% extra stat adjustment, so at 45 faith 54 str you would get over 300 incant scaling, which seems pretty decent even when compared to the 70 faith table and gives you good damage for a str/faith build. The real problem with the clawmark seal is that beast incantations suck in all but that one spell you mentioned, and its biggest use is chaining into a different spell. I just use the clawmark for casting and switch to a boosting seal depending by spell on the off-hand.

  • @supermintsoda743
    @supermintsoda743 2 года назад +129

    To summarise.
    At below 70 faith, Godslayer
    At 70 or more, Erdtree.
    If your Arcane is higher than your faith, dragon
    If your Strength is higher than faith, clawmark is best until roughly 50 faith
    Clawmark does gain the 50% strength boost from 2 handing
    Any specific incant boosting seals or weapons can be offhanded to give the bonus while casting with the stronger one, even if the seal is being 2-handed(clawmark).
    Any weapon buffs (electric, bloodflame, etc) will only count your faith stat when calculating scaling, ignoring all other stats. If you're using those, only consider pure fth scaling seals.
    Using flame art infusion with a higher faith investment and lower str will give you better incantation results overall without much loss in melee DPS. So unless you're a Strength build with minor investment for some bestial or buff incants, or you're married to an unga bunga stick with high Str requirements like me, consider switching to a more fth focused stat spread. Sacred infusion will get the exact same damage as flame art, but there are many bosses resistant to holy damage, so in practice flame art is better. Though be aware, any weapon which deals elemental damage, flame art included, cannot be buffed with elements. If you're using these consider standard, heavy or keen infusion over flame art. Avoid Quality infusion, it's terrible even on a quality build.
    Of course, you can just check spell buff or AR yourself in the status screen if you're unsure. Just remember to 2-hand clawseal before checking.

      Imagine making seals obsolete because you can change around the spellcasting ash on whatever weapon you like. It would need a lot of attention and fine tuning, it would walk the line of not stepping on the seals' toes and not being completely useless/unworthy of the ash slot.
      The unique weapons boosting certain incantations, like the bestial dagger, fill the role without interacting with the problems it can occur. Besides, ashes of war is basically a pick-your-spell for weapons anyways. Although a unique somber weapon would be cool to see, it would just have problems with incant/damage scaling being married.

However, if I recall correctly, at 80 int and 80 faith (one of my previous settings on the same character), I think the incantation scaling for the Golden Order seal was even higher than Dragon Communion's at 80 faith and 80 arcane. Being practical, though, I found little utility in having both sorceries and incantations as opposed to pairing arcane with incantations (and a similar argument could be made for arcane and intelligence since pairing bleed and frost is extremely beneficial).

    I think golden order seal is a little underrated for meta levels. It lets you put meta incants on a int/fth hybrid that leans int while still getting great incant scaling. At lvl 150 you can have 56 vig/40 mind/20 end/52 int/32 fth, enough to use azur's staff and supplement your max cast speed sorceries with incants like bestial sling, WoG, Honed Bolt, etc. at 316 incant scaling AND all those incants benefit from azur cast speed too. An odd build I know, but synergizes better than one might think, and it's just fun as hell to be the wizard casting WoG at max speed to get people the hell off you. Not to mention all the utility. You might think you lose the damage race against those who went full 80 int but then you put on barrier of gold and suddenly you outdamage them hard in PvP, and golden vow helps to make up for dps loss in PvE

    The seals can be so confusing. Like, if I only want to cast the Dragon Cult spells like Lightning Spear... the seal that boost Dragon Cult incantations isn't always the best option. Personally, I think maybe most the seals should have about the same scaling so the passive boosts always make that seal better for using that specific type of incantation. So technically if i only used faith as a stat but used the dragon seal to the point my scaling got to 250 i would get better heals, it is technically the sealsnfault but ultimately a game mechanic as to why non damage incants are underwelming with dragon seal

    If you're a pure faith caster only using one type of damaging spells, it seems better to dual-wield two of the same Seal (e.g. Giant's Seal for pyromancies). [Not counting the Beast Claw or Dragon Communion] The Golden Order Seals uniquely can be dual-wielded and stacked with the Radiant Gold Mask - unless there's some hidden discount factor, that would result in (110%)^3 damage, in other words a 33.1% damage buff to Golden Order incantations...wouldn't that be enough to offset the worse faith scaling if you specced into the minimum Int (e.g. 23 or 31 for triple/Ragagon rings?)

  • @garrick3727
    @garrick3727 2 года назад

    I find the Dragon Communion Seal to be an odd choice. It scales mostly with arcane, but the arcane scaling only affects damage. This means the seal is great for damage, notably dragon incantations, but it is relatively weak for buffs and heals. However, since you have an arcane build, you have no shortage of damage from weapon choices. This means the thing your seal is good for is probably the thing you need it for the least. Obviously, it is a great option if you do not want to increase faith, but if you are looking to incantations for something other than damage, then you really do have to raise faith and use a different seal because all that arcane scaling does not apply outside of damage.
