    The Empire actually tried and failed to conquer the Hapans. It could no doubt have taken them over in a total war scenario. However, given everything else going on in the galaxy, the Empir couldn’t commit most of its forces to that invasion. The Courtship of Princess Leia actually began with the Hapans sending a large fleet to Coruscant, composed of both Hapan Battle Dragons as well as captured Imperial Star Destroyers.

      Which isn't what happened, at all. Galactic Emperor Palpatine literally sent Grand Admiral Osvald Teshik with only 1 pursuit cruiser (basically just an overglorified corvette) and 8 gunships to enter Japan space in a deliberate attempt to get him killed.
      The reason being that Darth Sidious wanted to punish him for failing to deal with Rebel-aligned privateers in his Oversector.
      Had the Galactic Empire ever launched a serious invasion attempt, then the Hapes Consortium wouldn't have lasted longer than 5 seconds.

    My understanding from The Courtship of Princess Leia was that the Empire did make a push to conquer Hapes at one point that failed brutally, which led to the Empire putting off new attempts at least for a while

      At least in legends, the war before and after grevious was DRAMATICALLY different. Grievous united the separatists military, which prior to him was much more divided between corporations, groups, and planets within the Confederacy. The separatists were only wining the early war because the republic was so unprepared for war and once they got the ball rolling the republic could effectively counter the original separatist threat. Hence why sidious introduced grievous, to escalate and match the GAR at full tilt. So I imagine the logic there was "if we kill grievous, the separatists might default to their pre-grievous state" which, at the level they were at by episode 3, they could defeat.

    • @Sherool
      @Sherool 4 года назад +13

      Well Grievous held a lot of power and likely didn't have a very obvious successor ready to step in and pick up the pieces. At the very least there would have been a period of confusion and loss of direction.
      That said I never got the impression Greivous was an unstoppable strategic mastermind, he was a savage and shrewd warrior yes, but his schemes where foiled time and again. Maybe it was just Jedi hubris again. A Jedi could take on a legion of battledroids single-handed, a Jedi was easily worth a thousand clones, so an enemy that actively hunted and killed Jedi would obviously be considered the greatest threat imaginable. With monsters like that out of the way the rest of the CIS forces could be mopped up in due time surely.

    • @celestialyagg804

      Think of it like when the emperor died, just... not that big. They would still stick together and all, but Grievous was their best and after Dooku was dead, well, there would be a huge power vacuum. Also, since the best commander was gone, then more would follow or even surrender.

    I always assumed that the republic was more of a confederation or intergalactic union rather than an actual sovereign nation.
    Kind of like the EU, UN, or NATO. While they were decently centralized, every planet within it seemed to have its own local government that ran the show.
    That’s why you had so many kings, queens, and viceroys ruling their own planets within the “republic.”

    Star Wars is rather weird when it comes to galactic governments, in a sharp contrast to other sci-fi franchises like Star Trek or Warhammer 40K in which there are multiple factions within the galaxy. For instance, in Star Trek, you have the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union, the Dominion, the Borg, and various other factions, ranging in size from just a single star system to spanning thousands of lightyears from one end to another. Meanwhile in Star Wars, you just have the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Empire, and... that's really it, with any other factions being either too small to compete or being more-or-less of an afterthought in the greater narrative.

    • @samueldimmock694
      @samueldimmock694 2 года назад

      I don't think there was ever any hunt for the Mortis Monolith. In fact, all the information about the Mortis Arc presented in that series was: Anakin and Obi-Wan recorded going to a strange monolith following a distress call, meeting three powerful beings who correspond to the Ones we've heard about from other sources, and events happening resulting in the death of all three of them and the destruction of the monolith; therefore, the Ones won't be coming to save us and we have to 'kill' Abeloth on our own. However, the Lost Tribe of the Sith was a pretty major loose end.

    I still wish that the Zann Consortium had played a role in this future timeline, but perhaps it makes sense that they'd basically be invisible. The perfect consortium of criminal elements, pulling their strings, sowing deceit and holding power without ever being noticed by the states of the galaxy. You did notice them? You're now a disrupted skeleton, tossed into a black hole.

The Republic jedi leaders, the null class arc troopers, bad batch, 6 million-2 billion clones(depending on legends or not), clone commandos the entire Republic fleet against the UNSC marine core, ODSTs, all spartin programs, and UNSC fleets. I would like to really see this the clones who are breed for war vs the toughest marines humanity as to offer.

    Regarding the Hapes, between the unique galactic "geography" around the Hapes cluster and their effective if absolutely butt-ugly ships, I get the feeling that the Empire tried to do something at first, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble conquering what was essentially a violently isolationist Space Switzerland.

    Halo video videa What if the UNSC had never researched the spartan 2 or mjolnir programs. However one month after first contact with the covenant the UNSC INFINITY and her escort fleet of Autumn class cruisers appear at earth through a wormhole. The ships are fully operational and have manuals detailing how all ship systems, such as shielding and more advanced slipsace, operate and also how to build them for other ships. However it does not have the spartan 4s. How does this affect the human covenant war? Does humanity win or lose? #askeck

    I can’t believe Palpatine left the Hapes alone. I feel like he would see them as a threat

  • @jon6309

    I would argue that Bothan Space was one of the most powerful entities because of their large information broker centers and spy networks which allowed it to be automatically neutral by default. According to legends material it mentioned that even the Empire respected their independence due to this fact. Hutt Space was slowly losing its autonomy under the Empire and was more a client state that had to pay high taxes to maintain a higher level of autonomy. The intergalactic banking clan and it’s planets were also very powerful since they had the entire galactic economy hostage to the point the Empire wanted to punish them with their involvement with the CIS but couldn’t because it would damage the Empire’s economy!

    The reason the Empire never could take over the tiny Hapan Empire was because despite the Hapans were quite small, they had Extremely powerful mid range ships. Far more powerful than even the Imperial class Star Destroyers. One medium size Dragon ship could take on several Mark II Imperial Star Destroyers. It just wasnt worth the effort for Palpatine to attack them and he knew it. They kept to themselves and didnt cause him grief so he just left them alone. It wasnt until very late in the novels, well after the Yuzhan Vong war and during the war that Jacen Solo finally came to power that the last vestiges of the old Empire led by Ysane Isard finally had the drop on everyone with far superior technology that the biggest and greatest Super Class Star Destroyers and every other ship that other races had stood no chance against tiny little updated Mark II Star Destroyers (you could possibly call the Mark III). Ysane's scientists figured out how to breach other ships shields with ease and destroy ships from the inside with new turbolasers that at first didn't seem to do anything, but minutes later the ships would just break apart. They weakened the metals and let the stresses of space destroy the ship on its own. At that moment no one was safe.

    I don’t know about there being no known reason why Hapes wasn’t taken over by the Empire, or that taking them over would be “easy.” The two factions did fight in Hapan border skirmishes, as Imperial forces were sent in a few times to quell them, but they always ended in Imperial defeat and sometimes even the theft of Star Destroyers by the Consortium.
    Given that information, the Hapans, while a threat, did still keep to themselves, so it makes sense that Palpatine didn’t make an overt move to conquer them. Not with the considerable resources that would take while they were facing open Rebellion. The Hapans were a problem the Empire could afford to deal with when it was more convenient.

    #askeck How did the dueling prowess of Clone Wars Era Jedi compare to that of Jedi in the Old Republic? I was wondering because I often hear of Jedi like Mace being among the best the order ever produced, which always confuses me, since there would have been more consistent life-or-death lightsaber battles back then with which Jedi could hone their skills, whereas Clone Wars era Jedi would h as ve had little experience except against blaster-wielders or sparring opponents (at least until the outbreak of the war).
