  • This video is about a disease from the 19th century called Neurasthenia. This was a presentation that I did at a research conference, and I felt like y'all would enjoy this. I may do more videos like this in the future if it does well.

Good vid, but the notion that shocking doesn't help depression is kind of misleading. ECT typically leads to relatively rapid, short term improvements in severe cases of depression and today it's a much safer practice. Gets a bad rep due top pop culture mostly.

Just found your channel and the 2 videos that I've seen so far are awesome. I remember my psychology professor telling us about how men could basically just say "my wife is being annoying" and have their wives committed! wild stuff.

Thank you for those kind words! It is crazy what’s happened in the past and it’s surreal to think that this topic in particular was relevant all the way up to around WWI. History is fascinating.

That's interesting information! I have neurasthenia... I had 1 major episode when my hands and face went numb and I thought I was having a stroke but no, it turned out it's just neurasthenia. I stayed some 2-3 days in bed and was feeling pretty dizzy when getting up and just tired and weak but then it went away. I feel good again but the neurologist told me to stay away from conflict situations or stressful people. He also recommended I go on a holiday alone in some mountain hotel, with no reading, no tv, no internet, not much talkig to other hotel guests, just so that the nervous system can recover.

@@adinamedrea5303f your seeking peace it’s all within. Your doctor gave you good advice but meditating will significantly improve your overall health but meditating is very spiritual not many will seek or understand this path it’s only for the so called “chosen”. You should also do a 1-4 day fast on straight plant smoothies because the toxins they put into our food is ridiculous almost like population control. Consuming fast foods is the same smoking a cigarette it’s facts you can check it out they have reversed all of the lords teachings one can’t truly stay sober in the USA it’s really hard and being truly sober doesn’t mean you don’t do “drugs” it means you have no type of radical damaged cells.

The "West Cure" makes sense when you consider the electrical nature of Neurastenia. You would be getting away from the electrified cities.
