Imagine a bass jazz player playing in metal concert
yes that's literally what happens, his background was more jazz heavy

Unlucky Morpheus has an amazing back catalogue. Japan has such an incredible metal scene. Fuki is my favourite female vocalist, with Lovebites being my joint favourite band

I'm glad you enjoyed the songs! This is somewhat of a super band where every member has been a member of other amazing groups! Shiren (harsh vocals/guitar) writes and composes their songs where Fuki (vocals) writes their lyrics. She also designs their outfits for their shows (including the hoodie 😊).
Shiren is an original Kami Band member with Babymetal. He also suffered from a form of tendinitis that prevented him from playing for a long time or even holding a guitar. That's why he switched to a headless guitar because it was lighter. In other videos and live performances, his guitar is on a stand. In other live performances, the violinist Jill would play his guitar parts including his solos. There are 2 different live videos for Black Pentagram. One is an old one where Shiren only does vocals and a recent one that he plays only the harmonizing parts. The MV you watched is the original version before his tendinitis really effected him. There's a lot more to say about this band I'll probably drop in the Discord 🤘😊🤘

The violinist has a cover of Eddie Van Halen's solo "Eruption" on her violin!!! The best MV is their cover of "Eruption" and "The Dance of Eternity".
Thanks for recognizing Ogowa Hiroyuki, Bass and Fumiya, drums. Too many reactors overlook them because of the rest of the band.

Shiren, the guitarist playing the headless guitar, suffers from tenosynovitis, a condition that inflames the sheathes of one's tendons and makes playing guitar painful. He plays headless guitars live because they're lighter than regular guitars; sometimes he has to have the guitar on a stand. Other times he can't play at all and just does vocals. On those occasions, Jill, the violinist, plays his guitar solos. And yeah, UM is familiar with Dream Theater. There's a live video on their channel where Jill covers "Eruption" by Van Halen and then everyone but Shiren and Fuki cover "Dance of Eternity."
One other tidbit about Shiren is that he was a guitarist in Babymetal's Kami Band the first time the Kami Band appeared at Legend I (pronounced Legend Eye, as in IDZ). He only appeared that one night and only played two songs, but he was there!

Composition...yes, check out their track(s) "Cadaver/Revadac" next. Also, "Unending Sorceress" Then check out their side project Quadratum if you want to see what a monster Jill (the violinist ) is!

So much I could say. Only Lovebites is above Ankimo on the list of bands I have to see before I die. You mentioned Dream Theater. There is an Unlucky Morpheus side-project called Quadratum - Jinya (guitarist with a headstock), Ogawa (bassist), Fumiya (drummer), and Jill (violin -- a BEAST). There is a Live cover of them playing The Dance of Eternity (Dream Theater) with Jill playing Jordan Rudess' Keyboard part . . on Violin. It opens with a cover of VanHalen's Eruption solo . . by Jill of course. BTW, Ankimo (Unlucky Morpheus) is the band's 'real' name to their Japanese fans. Ankimo means Monkfish Liver in Japanese . . and the Japanese kanji figures for Ankimo sound 'kind of' like Unlucky Morpheus in Japanese.

So refreshing to see an Unlucky Morpheus reaction and not the reactor droning on about people’s hair for half the song. UM is epic as hell and has great live performances. Black Pentagram live is wayyyyy better. I do though love Fuki’s look in the mv.

Congrats on finding Unlucky Morpheus-one of the best, most creative bands in the world today. They remain independent by choice, in order to retain complete artistic freedom. They started off in 2008, focused on making soundtracks to video games and anime. They went through a lot of different stylistic phases, but the big transformation was when they brought Jill (violin) on board. Like many Japanese bands, they sound incredibly clean and tight live. My top suggestion for a live clip: “Angreifer” ruclips.net/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/видео.html
Meanwhile, amid the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are top-notch as well. Basically, this band is a technical monster. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is also lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki and others outside of UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. Hard to come up with another violinist who could pull that off. Here are links to instrumentals featuring her in UM’s instrumental project Quadratum:
Cover of van Halen "Eruption" ruclips.net/video/eTb0TQtVT6k/видео.html
Cover of Malmsteen "Far Beyond the Sun" ruclips.net/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/видео.html Cover of Dream Theater, played blindfolded: ruclips.net/video/8eZVVtaOBKk/видео.html
I saw UM live in London in 2019, when they headlined Metal Matsuri. Great show, and the chemistry between Fuki and Jill was electric.

f you wanna see an actually awesome piece of composition, check out their song Cadaver/Redavac, and watch the version with note sheet. It's the same song first normally, then backwards.
Btw no, Fuki is not formally trained. Her mom was an Enka singer, she's copying her style.

Vocalist Fuki is definitely in my top 5 vocalists. There are others who sing a similar style to her, but none of them quite match her. Unlucky Morpheus makes my top 5 current bands too. Amazing talent and creative songwriting.

If you want to see the full drum kit try Unlucky Morpheus ( feat.FUMIYA )-「Dogura Magura」Drum Playthrough ruclips.net/video/hUSxTuS82sA/видео.html and I think the count is 14 symbols.
Oh!! and seeing you like Dream Theater and a live violin then it has to be. 【Live Cover】Eruption(Van Halen) ~ The Dance of Eternity(Dream Theater) ruclips.net/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/видео.html
Just a point on something that was said in the comments. Fuki (singer) is not trained, she has always sung like that, it's a thing she picked up off her mother, who always was singing around the house, when she was young. Fuki is one of those people that is an irresistible forces of nature. She must have over 130 releases to her name. She also does voice acting, she used to run a radio show, she has a kanji kentai level 1 degree, and she is a Sugino fashion college costume creation graduate, she makes some of the costumes she and the band wear,
Ogawa is really a Jazz bassist, Unlucky Morpheus is the only metal band he has ever been in, he has done a lot of Jazz bands. He went to music college with Shiren, the band leader, and they became great friends there. He also thinks he is the bands comedian.

The question we must ask ourselves is; why doesn't the rock scene in japan dominate the world rock scene? Stratospheric level bands.... Relegated to supporting roles, no festival headlines..... 😢😢😢😢
Ps: Black Pentagram is better better better 1000% in live. 😎
